As an Algerian, trust me when I say that everyone hates this airline. Whenever we travel to somewhere we always make sure to take another company. Back then it wasn't always like this tbf, there was entertainment and the planes were clean. However, things have changed for the worse in modern times. They've bought 2 new planes but it's up to your luck whether or not you end up in one of them. As for the staff not even saying a hello and lack of safety measures, this is most likely an unlucky occurrence because I've never experienced that. Anyways, on behalf of Algeria and all algerians, we are sorry. Edit: tf is happening under my comment wallahi

That thing you rode to the plane in Montreal is called a mobile lounge, and yup, Dulles has been famous for having them! The mobile lounge was an innovative feature of the Dulles terminal design by Eero Saarinen. Besides Dulles, Eero Saarinen also designed JFK's iconic TWA Flight Center and St Louis's Gateway Arch (fun fact the Arch's elevator is unique, an elevator tram that's a combination of elevator and Ferris Wheel principles that a guy named Dick Bowser had only two weeks to design and present to Saarinen; the cars rotate which allow the cars to remain level the entire way to the top and each tram carry 40 passengers with eight capsules)! Dulles's mobile lounges each weigh 76 tons with a maximum cruising speed of 26 mph and can carry to and from the terminal building up to 90 people. Their purpose was to radically restructure the idea of airports. By the early 1960s, airports had transformed to ramifying systems of hallways. As planes grew larger, they needed more space as they lined up next to each other along the airport building. And as flying grew more popular, airports needed to have more and more gates. The result was that terminal buildings sprouted long protrusions called fingers. Hundreds of feet long, they accommodated jets very comfortably. The finger-style airport was a purgatory of walking because airports went from being able to walk straight from the entrance of a simple terminal onto your plane, now you were reduced to wandering through a structure built for giants. So when Dulles opened in 1962, it did not have fingers. Instead, after passengers checked in on one side of the terminal building, they crossed to a row of doors that opened onto a fleet of mobile lounges. While the aircraft, some one or two miles off on the tarmac, were prepared, flyers relaxed in swank waiting areas, enjoying cocktails from nearby stands. Dulles's designers thought that by shuttling from the main terminal directly to a midfield jet ramp, they could save passengers from long walking distances amidst weather, noise, and fumes on the ramp. The advent of the jet bridge and construction of the two midfield concourse buildings at this airport negated the benefits of the system. As passenger numbers at Dulles grew, they realized it was impractical to use mobile lounges. Remote concourses were constructed, and the fleet of mobile lounges was used as a shuttle between the concourses and the main terminal. In 2010, the Dulles mobile lounge system for passenger movements between the Main Terminal and the A-, B-, and C-Gates was replaced with the underground AeroTrain, while mobile lounges have continued to be used to reach Concourse D before replacement Concourses C and D are built and the AeroTrain is expanded to become a continuous two-way loop. Besides Dulles and Montreal, mobile lounges have also been used at Philadelphia International, Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City until 2007, JFK International, the infamous Mirabel International until passenger services ceased in 2004, Paris Charles de Gaulle, and King Abdulaziz International Airport in Saudi Arabia. Early in the space shuttle program, NASA used the Plane Mate system of mobile lounge to move astronauts directly from the orbiter to crew facilities. A modified vehicle obtained from BWI in Baltimore was used for shuttle landings at California's Edwards Air Force Base. A similar vehicle was used at the Kennedy Space Center to take astronauts directly from the orbiter to the Operations and Checkout building.

Hi Noel, In Canada, passengers are randomly selected for a primary bag inspection before the x-ray (usually they just swab your belongings and test it for illegal substances). What happened there is that you were one of the “randomly” selected passengers for that inspection. During the x-ray part of the process your bag may be selected again for inspection due to something that was observed through the x-ray (I don’t know if that was the case as you don’t show that part of the process in your video).

Crew members that serve the passengers are the reason why aviation is the safest mode of transport. If they aren't there, eventually there will be situations where some passenger is standing when the plane hits the ground, possibly in the lavatory etc. That can really kill someone, so it's not a minor violation of safety. Especially concerning when it's dark outside and people don't know when the plane will hit the ground. I've seen videos where there were people sleeping on the economy row without seatbelts on, no crew, and the plane just started to land. I think we need to speak up against these kinds of practices. Poor customer service on the other hand is something that won't physically harm anyone.

You are at the mercy of numerous people who literally have your life in their hands. When something happens to that aircraft due to somebody not doing their job, there is NOTHING you can do, but ride it to the ground. A passenger boarding the Hawaiian jet that lost it's top in flight, noticed several rivets missing before she boarded, but got on anyway. Go figure!

I’m pretty sure what happened at Montreal Airport security is that you went into the Business Class/Visa Infinite Privilege line and instead of letting you go straight to security, the CATSA employee decided to randomly select you for an additional check. The same thing can happen in the other section (Economy) but because of the higher passenger volumes, it’s obvious it’s a “random selection”. A pre-check before security is not standard for every passenger at Canadian airports.

@@myt763 we maintain all Air Algérie fleet aircrafts composed of ATR72, B737- NG, and A330. we do uphold other companies'aircraft too. And we are based at Algiers in the biggest Aircrafts maintenance facility in Africa, which by the way was bolted by a Canadian company (SNC LAVALIN).

Maybe it's done for security reasons. When j went to Guinea-Bissau last year I had my passport checked 2 times: The first time, I was stamped out of the country and the second time by Portuguese immigration officers (because Guinea-Bissau is a known hot-spot for people trafficking).

In regards to your seat being an exit "row" This only applies to seats sat directly next to the door on your left/right hand side, overwing exits for example. The seat you are is what is classed as a restrictive seat therefore in an emergency you may be called upon to open the main exit on the other side of the bulkhead, but that would only be explained and discussed with you at the time of the emergency. Appears this airline places the card just to give you a heads up that it is an expectation of you in an emergency, but your not required to be spoken about this by the crew before departure as it only becomes an "exit seat" shall we say when a potential emergency occurs. Hope that helps!

@Noel Philips have you ever seen anything so dangerous on one of your flights you've felt compelled to call the authorities?

Shame you didn't get out the airport. I was told many years back that Algeria was dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. I went as I wanted to see Timgad and other Roman ruins. Well it could not have been different from the truth. I was made welcome everywhere I went, hotels were what I expected, the usual food poisoning, trots etc. Police and local soldiers on guard were not threatening and advised me about safety. Tour guide was excellent as was the tour transport. The place as it's usual issues with pickpockets and we saw one get caught in city and it was instant justice. As for air safety, well that is just how it is. It ain't no BA, but you got there. Is a swinging door an issue? I would be more concerned on the mechanics and condition of the aircraft.

I guess people just tell you Algeria is dangerous because it’s a Muslim country but to be fair we don’t have that much crime rate, it’s pretty low for an African and Muslim country.

I frequently fly Air Algerie, mainly between London and Algiers. I think their main issue is business class service as I found the service in economy class to be perfectly fine. They have a meal service despite the short length of a flight and they even come around serving tea and coffee! However, their planes have seen better days and they are a tad bit filthy however the airline have ordered A350-1000's and A330-900's and I hope their service and cabin maintenance improves with the arrival of these new jets!

I'm Algerian living outside of the country, I take Air Algerie a lot to go back home, from my experience it really depends on the destination and your luck, for some reason all of my flights from Paris have always been newer cleaner planes, and nicer crew but the food isn't usually the best honestly. I took a flight from Vienna once and it was nice on the going flight but the return flight was bad, old plane and crew wasn't that nice, all domestic flights are crap, lets say it as it is. Another thing is that those A330's that go to Canada will soon be changed to the new A330 neo I believe, and there are other A330's that are newer and cleaner, the one you flew on is from 2004 I believe, they're expected to be out of service by the end of this year or something, I don't remember the details but an employee at Air Algerie told me that once. In general it's not the worst airline, I've had bad experiences even with European airlines before, but it's not up there, it depends on your luck, what you got was the worst of the worst, but definitely their best isn't anything amazing but still better than this, I personally like to fly with them since outside summer holidays (which is when I usually visit) flights are cheap and they offer 23kg of luggage in the basic ticket, I can fly for as low as 190 euros return from Paris with luggage, to me it's worth it, as Air France would cost double with luggage, and from my experience you don't get much better, the planes are in the same shape and crew is usually at the same level, for that particular flight atleast.

Well the mystery meat certainly isn't pork on either flight. Likely a less common cut of mutton, which has a different taste and texture.
