I bought a Dragon Quest Metal Slime 2DS LL on Amazon (I should've gone with Rakuten or Mercari or gone to stores first but y'know, I just wanted one ASAP) when I started living in Japan because I knew I needed one to be able to play JP games (I wasn't comfortable with modding) and I originally was gonna get the Pokeball one or the Hylian shield one but as soon as I saw the DQ Metal Slime one I didn't care about the others 👀 I actually saw the exact same one in my local hardoff a few months ago and it looked completely new but the price was pretty much the same as when I got mine. The prices here have gotten a lot higher as of the past year or so. It seems like stores have finally clocked onto the fact that people come and try to get them cheaper here.

I got my "new 3DS" in that same Ueno Hard-Off, pretty decent price. I also got a boxed Pokeball new 2DS XL in a shop in Akihabara! Can't wait to go back one day. Loved hunting for these consoles. Dreaming of the next Japan trip

Best bet for buying video games for a decent price in Japan is to leave the big cities and go to smaller areas. Much better prices but will be much harder since you don’t speak Japanese. My friends and I got some crazy good deals this way when we lived there for a summer.

I've visited book off a hundred times and I usually get consoles from the junk section since most of the time those junk only has slight scratches, issues with the sound and other minimal issues.

So many people are reselling - there are LOOOOOOTS of westerners with yt channels that solely buy video game stuff literally everywhere you went - and then they upsell the stuff to people outside of the country for much more. It's what is causing prices to go up, and why the stores seemed pretty uneventful to others videos 3-5 years ago. I have found making friends with said ebay sellers to work well in my favor as they'll find stuff for me and work with me on pricing if i pay outside ebay lol

I did the same I got one for 200$ of the Pokeball 2ds xl and region changed it to USA and then put it back in the box and back in my closet and used my other 2ds xl lol that I had jailbroken with 1tb storage and use that more lol but mine came in the original box and original packaging but was not sealed once I got it haha
