Glad to see one of these again after so long, and that it was not an April Fools prank. In regards to the scythe's Magnet Burst, I can imagine a puzzle/platformer action to draw in objects. For example: Jump from Start Ledge --> Magnet Burst (Pull a Sliding Platform under you.) & Land --> Jump from Sliding Platform --> Magnet Burst (Pull Sliding Platform back to original position aka under you) & Land --> Jump to End Ledge. And you could mix in other weapons so that the player has to swap between their abilities to reach great distances. [EDIT] Would also recommend you make the Magnet Burst cancelable so the player can draw the enemy in and do a combo.

I recently started diving into Gameplay tags, if you're going to be doing some experimentation I'd strongly suggest giving them a look if you haven't already.

I'm using the Gameplay Ability system which makes heavy use of gameplay tags, so that also extents to driving my enemy A.I. and such now :)

I can totally relate to the new ideas out of frustration, it's just a more creative approach to problem solving haha. We're more than developers, we're creating a piece of art, specially solo devs who take care of everything on their own.

exactly! the human mind is great at coming up with ways to avoid doing what it doesn't want to do, sometimes that leads to situations like this and it's up to a creator/artist to recognize these moments and take them :) (on the other hand, we also have to recognize when alternative plans aren't as good and we're just trying to avoid difficult or tedious work and power through it for the sake of the end result)

Necessity is the mother of all invention. If what you're doing is becoming too difficult, it will necessitate a different way

Just a thought but what if during the loading screen you played an animated clip to conceal the transition? Kind of like NMS does with a ship when you warp; it could be possible for it to look natural even being pre-rendered, especially if the main character never changes appearance. Good luck with your game!

interesting idea, my current thought was having a screenshot of the map you're loading into displayed on screen but this idea might work too! either way, the loading screen as it is now is very much a temporary thing
