Black does the right thing by attempting to conjure up an artificial attack in a lost position where their opponent is in time trouble. Faced with that, I would have lost this one for sure as I perform very poorly under pressure. Keeping it (relatively) together was a great effort and the win was well earned. Stockfish rightly evaluates 7. ... e5 as inexcusable garbage but, as a die hard Dragon player, I might give it a crack in a blitz game as 9. Qe2 is a long way from obvious. In a tournament game, I think I'd be sticking to established theory were I ever to return to OTB chess.

Yeah my opponent was very resourceful, so I definitely had to work for the win! And yes, sometimes it pays off to play a dubious line when the response is not so obvious. Perhaps if he kept it as a surprise weapon, I wouldn’t have known the response as Qe2 is tricky to find!
