I love this channel and know he cares about the animals. But lots of people dont 100% realise how such simple things to us might be torturous to the animals we try to help out... I'm glad he has a slightly better home now but still, 2 months in a small tank isnt good for the turtle. He may even need to make a small social bond with the other turtles from where he comes from. It just makes me uneasy, please dont let him get bored, and show him the bigger world not just one small tank for 2 months Sorry if this seems negative i'm just worried about the lil guy x

So cute! As someone who's raised a red eared slider I'd say you're doing a pretty good job except for one crucial thing. In order to grow properly turtles need UVB lighting as well. If they don't get UVB they can develop metabolic bone desease (MBD) which basically means that their bones won't grow correctly and they'll likely start getting shell rot. Btw, I have the exact same filter as you, and it's one of the best I've ever used. Keep up the good work!

I am glad to have come across your video. I love found turtles. Everyone that I have captured got away because I get comfortable with them being outside to stretch their legs in their natural habitat and each time I have gone in the house and then they are gone. I just recently had one for about two weeks he had an outdoor routine and then my neighbor found one for me. The very next morning I let them out and they planned the great escape, however, I just found a baby turtle in the same area in which I lost the two how ironic. I will have a watchful eye on this one since he will be staying inside.

My dad has the same story. He was also cleaning a pond when he found a turtle that was smaller than the one you found, he gave it to me so I can raise it. I named it Timmy, (or Timmy Turtle). He is still little, but doing well. (Edit: I’ve seen a lot of comments saying to feed the turtle fish or minnows. In my opinion, I don’t agree with that because turtles that age or that small, need more vitamins and supplements. It’s best to stick with pellets.)
@thesourpatchkid694 жыл бұрын

Had one of those before, he liked having his belly rubbed by the the way he responded. In a few short months he's going to make short work of that 10 gal aquarium if you feed him regularly. The filtering system will help, but, the closer he gets to palm size, the bigger the mess coming from the tail end. At that point I took mine back to the spot in the pond I found him and released him at a good size to avoid being eaten by other creatures. I don't imagine the pond you have would be a good place for him anyway with the way those sea monsters snap up the fish you throw in it. Perhaps that's why he wasn't in the water. That, not seeing his mom bit was misleading. You know turtles don't wait around for eggs to hatch. They drop and cover, that's it.

I grew up near my Grandma meaning i would spend most weekends up there at the trailer park, really it was more of a retirement residence for old time Europeans and and a summer home for younger ones located between a large lake made by a dam and a large man made pond network, we went fishing there, always putting the bass and trout back, caught painted turtles regularly by hand and named them, it was home. Then one day before autumn i found 3 tiny painted turtles, i took them in and easily convinced my mom to buy the few extra things we needed and i raised those 3, naming by size, Quarter, Loonie and Toonie, Canadian turtles obviously, i had them for about 4 years and they grow slow, even my moms vet friend said they were growing even faster than normal, but after about 4 years i had to put them back after spending every cent i had making deals with house work until i could use a lawn mower on the neighbors grass and so forth. It was always my intention to let those turtles have a happy life and to release them back into thier home pond. They had a 3 foot wide tank and always ate live fish i would drop in their tank along with some nutritional pellets. Even after so many years Quarter, the smallest (perhaps the size of an actual Toonie) was only the size of my palm when i let them go, Loonie and Toonie were about the size or tea cup plates and i kept seeing and catching them over the years. (I raised a few baby turtles, and two before and one after the trio. Peso, i found him brutally attacked, he passed about a week after i found him but he was atleast able to eat during that time. Srry for the long comment if you made it here, just not often i have an excuse to talk about those little legends.

The mom doesn't really look after their young, they fend for themselves, but that is very thoughtful of you!
@maximusmagnutena40914 жыл бұрын
I just thought the mom went for food and hid the baby turtle in a safe spot ;-;
@Blackratsnake4 жыл бұрын
@@maximusmagnutena4091 No, more or less baby turtles fend for themselves and rely on their camouflage. Same with snakes like that Dekays brown snake he found. Snakes lay eggs, or give live birth, and the young are ready to go off into the world. Often times young turtles however will still bask near adults or around eachother.

@@maximusmagnutena4091 basically in the reptile world species that care for their young are the exception instead of the norm, for example crocodiles will care for their young, the mommy will transport her babies into new areas in her mouth and it's incredible just how gentle those giants can be! And the tiny noises the babies make, absolutely precious. Don't know if any lizards, snakes or such do the same, can't remember ever hearing anything like that

@Drake Petty red eared sliders are native to southern USA and I'm pretty sure he's American...

Try raising the water level a bit more and they sometimes like to hide so raise the water and he’ll go under the turtle dock as a cave and will breath in the little holes
@christopherfitch77054 жыл бұрын
TylerKimFishing _ yea but he needs a dry spot to bask under the light

baby turtles cant swim well. the amount of water the turtle has is appropriate for how bit he is. In order to raise the water level the turtle has to grow and develop, but thank you for your concerns 🤗

Anyone remember “Dribble” the turtle from the children’s books “Tales of a fourth grade nothing”, with Fudge the little brother eating the turtle?
@eliseluttrell90734 жыл бұрын
This comment was basically a time machine because it took me back to the early 2000s. I distinctly remember that book but I have no recollection of actually reading it. Also the second he picked up that tiny turtle all I thought about was the brother eating a turtle OMG
