I found a Mink Fur Coat in a Dumpster! I can't believe it was headed to the landfill..

Okayy I know this video is slightly different than my normal ones (because I was feeling talkative lol) but I hope you still enjoy it!!! :D
I spent the afternoon dumpster diving, collecting free stuff from Facebook Marketplace, and rescuing one of my coolest finds EVER! I am still in shock that someone would decide to trash such a gorgeous piece - Could you image it ending up in the landfill 😭 After doing some research, I am pretty sure it is vintage from the 1970s. Does anyone know more about it?!

OMG I just in the last 5 months started hitting dumpsters lol It is such a rush and we have found so much stuff, right after school started we donated over 300 pieces of kids clothing to a teacher who will carefully send home outfits in students backpacks and we have donated finds to our local thrift store, she said they have made about $5000 profit from the stuff we gave them. Dumpster diving is such a rush lol. I highly recommend you carefully select one, get a pair of gloves, a step stool, grabber (or I use my cane lol) a couple of bags to put things in and give it a try. I do not complain about businesses throwing stuff away or destroying it when they throw it away, they paid for it so they can do what they want with it but we have found some really awesome things lol I even got a quality vacuum because it was a return, I cleaned it up and shined it up with a used dryer sheet and sold it on marketplace for $100 in less than an hour after I posted it. I get the biggest giddy feeling when I dumpster dive now lol can't wait for spring!

Kelly, I love this video! The mink coat looks older than the 70s to me--1960s I'd say, with the double breasted style. It's absolutely beautiful. I found a mink stole that color cheap at a yard sale, and sold it for quite a bit. Yours is better because it is a jacket. Off the top of my head I'd say the prices you found are accurate--at least $400, or more depending on the label. The shawl you found was all the rage when I was in high school in 1970. Everybody made one. I love vintage clothing and have quite a bit of it--mostly from thrift stores and a few things from estate sales--which I wear. I especially love old swing coats, silk Chinese jackets, and Japanese robes with embroidered dragons. By the way, Pilgrim just melts my heart.

It's disrespectful to the animals who were killed for their fur. I don't agree with the fur trade, I wouldn't kill an animal for its coat. I live in Finland and there are many more vintage and antique fur jackets/coats that are handed down to the next generation or resold.

I inherited a mink jacket from a great-aunt, but I gave it to my mother. People thought I was crazy not to keep it, but I was a zoo volunteer at the time and fur coats were really a no-no among the volunteers and staff. We liked the fur while it was still ON the animals! (My mother was thrilled to get it and my great-aunt's initials embroidered inside were the same as my mother's initials! That fur was really made for my Mom!)

My mom had a full length mink coat in the 60s. My first child, a boy, loved that coat. Eventually, she gave it to him. I dont know how many years he slept with it, but he' did clear into his adult years.

Ive been selling antiques for the last 10 years, that brand of fur coat is worth around what you said. Usually in good condition between $300-$600 depending on size and fur type. That is a great find!

Angels are for top corners of door frames. On the white vest, try sprinkling baby powder or cornstarch, rub in bit, then leave for a couple of hours and brush out. It can't hurt to try!

At least for me, I think it would be so fun to see your entire process in general. You could pick a 2 or 3 items from different categories (a piece of clothing, a random decor item, a pair of shoes) and just show us the process you take after you find the item to list it! Show us how you research it and what sources have reliable information. Show us how you clean it and what products you use! Show how you take the pictures (even though you kind of already did). And then yeah, maybe film how you upload the item and what keywords, etc to use? It would be so interesting!! :D That's mu suggestion. Edit: and show us the packaging process as well! Forgot that.

Could be fox or mink if you keep it keep it stored in a cool dry place ask a dry cleaners if they have paper covers for fir coats that keeps the dust or anything else off them people used to put them in cold storage to keep them from shedding

The fur jacket, my opinion of why it was dumped is that perhaps the owner grew out of the size. Or, it belonged to someone else in family that may have passed and they did not want to have it. One, more thought, it may not be a style that the owner wanted any more. Like your channel very much. PD

Hi Kelly, yes I would love a video about Poshmark. I have purchased 2 pairs of shoes off of Poshmark so far and have been very pleased with it. I would like to know how you get started, what percentage does Poshmark take etc. That fur coat was a good find, hope you make a good profit off of it. I would never wear real fur, but other people might. Lastly if you have an H&M in your area, take the old clothes over to them. They recycle them and give you a 15 percent off discount coupon to spend in their store. They do not however take shoes. Always enjoy watching you dumpster dive and am appalled at what people throw away! Such waste.

Great find with the fur. People still buy them. I saw several available at an antique show. Her prices were pretty high. I'm still hanging on to one that I bought at a yard sale many years ago. I think I paid $40. It had a tear. Later I moved to Florida and knew I couldn't use it so I left it with my mother. I got it back and about two years ago I took it to my dry cleaners and they sent it off to be repaired and cleaned. It cost about$120.00. But it looks great. I may sell it eventually. That Pilgrim was looking pretty mellow today. 😀

I really like your videos. Always fun to watch. About the white vest, even thought it says “dry clean” that is usually a manufacture’s safety suggestion. Depending on the fabric content, I’ve found if it doesn’t say “dry clean only” you can usually wash it on gentle cycle, cold water w/ Woolite. Hang dry. Good luck w/ the real fur coat Looking forward to an update on it.

Hi, I've not watched this video yet but I've watched some of your other videos. I just want to say that I'm impressed with all the work that goes into finding decent items in a dumpster, cleaning it up and then selling it on. Homco figurines are not precious moment figurines, two different companies. Definitely do your research on that fur coat before selling it. Old clothes can be used for rags, wiping Pilgrims feet when he is muddy, as a layer on his bed for warmth.

There are shops, furriers, that buy real fur coats, they professionally clean them prior to sale, maybe safer than selling to outside buyers, some anti fur people are militant, so be careful, def. get it appraised, even to just find out what the fur is, try hand washing the white faux fur item in some dawn as dry cleaning is expensive, do not spin but dry flat.

HOMCO has nothing to do with Precious Moments, Homco have been around much longer than Precious Moments. Homco figurines are always up at eBay. Homco elves do extremely well, the older the better. Homco elf trinket boxes also do quite well.

Poshmark is a free app. It doesnt cost you anything to list item to sell. They do charge a 20% fee, meaning if you have something priced at $50 they take $10 so you only make $40. They do send you a shipping lable so all you have to do is print that box up your item tape it and drop it off at your post office. They have a buyer and seller protection policy, it's great! I have friends that are vegans so they dont wear any animal based clothing but they are also pragmatic and are going to wear out what they have otherwise it is another form of waste and an extra waste of the animals life if you are just going to throw away what has been made of it.

Unless the coat was in shambles I couldn't cut it up to make stuffed animals out of it. They're worth way too much money and are too beautiful. You could sell it to someone who still wears real fur. Many people do. It might not be something you'd do, nor I, but many still do. My mom had one she kept in a bag for years and finally sold it. It was worth a lot!

Yesss get it appraised and ask the appraiser who they might suggest to sell to. My grandmother had several fur coats and we were able to sell to a high end consignment store for very good prices =)
