I Found A New, Local, Dirt Road - But Is It Any Good?

It's really amazing that I still find new, local dirt roads to ride!
My part of The World is just a maze of fantastic dirt and back roads and it is so good that I don't live in "The Big City" and can be amongst them within minutes.
This one was tricky - pot-holes, slippery gravel and ruts are just par for the course, but riding in dappled sunlight, streaming through the tress, plays havoc with visibility.

It does get challenging when you've got bright light, shadow, bright light, shadow. As well as potholes that you just can't see until the last second. Still a good little explore!

Yes - very un-nerving not being able to see what's coming! A great little explore really, enjoyed it :)

Enjoyed the video mate! My eyes have become a little sensitive in my old age... The rapid transition from shade to light and back again, get's me tired faster than usual. Some people might call me "soft", and they'd be right... 🙂

Haha! Yes, I completely relate, and am most likely "soft" also - many thanks mate!

CC this video brings back recent memories of those stroboscopic runs down forested roads on sunny days. That sun flashing on and off can be off putting and quite hazardous with potholes and wildlife. Yep another on the money video that tells it as it is. Cheers and thanks, Sean.

Many thanks Sean - always giving great, supportive comments, I really do appreciate it! Yes, that strobe effect - very disconcerting! Enjoyed the ride for it's challenge, might be even more fun on an overcast day...

Always fun finding somewhere new to ride. Shame about the potholes and visibility.

Our extended local area is like a giant jig-saw - always interesting and fun to explore and to fill in a few gaps! Cheers.

I find the dappling of light through the trees in the sun so hard when out on the bike to see properly, it camoflages the pot holes too. Nice to find new dirt roads even if they are not the best, it is all an adventure 🙂

Yeah - it's definitely un-nerving - I like to look fairly far ahead, but end up looking pretty close in front in these situations, which isn't good, as you know. In spite of my whining at the time, I really enjoyed it :)

I'm kind of in the same boat. In the last 25 years I've probably hit 95% off the local roads on a dirt bike, dual sport or ADV. Mostly now I'm left with out and back or non passable roads.

Pretty lucky here really mate, there;'s such a massive and intricate network of little dirt roads, stretching basically through the whole of Australia, but especially here.

Hi mate, yeah great part of the world. All mods (there aren't that many really) are listed in my description, and are probably shown most in my 100000Km review video - and no I'll never replace the bike - I could afford one bike in my life, and this is it!!
