in this one, we head to the Blue Forest in Wyoming to dig for phenomenal petrified wood! This amazing site is home to a one of a kind specimen, petrified wood that is coated in blue chalcedony and agate, as well as wood that even agatizes into perfect blue limb casts! It is INCREDIBLE material! Today I am joined by Montana Rock Mom and World of Rockhounds, and we found some amazing material! The cherry on top however, was the gigantic agatized log that i found completely covered in royal blue botryoidal agate! Truly a once in a lifetime find that I still can not wrap my hear around! I hope you all enjoy this insane day, and I will have another one out very soon! We have several more videos coming from this Wyoming trip and you DO NOT want to miss the next ones!

I was born in the wrong country! You guys have some stunning rock and mineral examples EVERYWHERE! I'm in Kent UK and we are famous for our mudsotnes...meh! I travel around to collect the pretty gem worthy rocks, but still nothing quite like American geology
@hubrigant
@hubrigant Жыл бұрын
It's not all like that. Where I am (NW Illinois), it's mostly limestone and diorite. A little farther north, though, is the driftless region. It's pretty country, still mostly limestone, but at least there's accessible fossils from the Ordovician. So far, I've only found nautiloids and some clamlike things, but there's supposed to be trilobites that I'm hoping to find.

@@hubrigant Good luck with the fossil hunt :) Our South coast isn't bad for fossils, farther West is best for giant ammonites though I haven't found any I can carry! I still say you guys have it good, pack up the car and drive drive drive, amazing country
@hubrigant
@hubrigant Жыл бұрын
@@claudine1220 I've been watching Em's Gems channel enviously because of her frequent trips to the ammonite coast area. The nautiloids I've collected so far pale in comparison, most being only the size of a finger.

From California and what I can say to you it's the rockhounder, not necessarily the rocks. In UK you can find something that is 300 years old. In California we be like, wow you found a soda bottle from 1979. Cool!!!

Hello! Im one of those old school rock hounds that has been scooping agate, agatized wood, and even some oregon jade off the beaches. Ive found a piece of agatized bark that i can clearly identify as sequoia that doesnt follow the rules and ive been trying to find someone more knowledgeable than myself to look at this thing, because books say the voids in this should have been filled, but i have voids where there were natural voids in the bark from structure, insect bore holes, even gaps partially filled with fossilized pitch and all the texture and detail, even beetle dung, but it looks like if you cut a spot in a living tree, you could place it in there and you couldnt tell it was a fossil. The color, the detail. Its unlike any fossilized wood ive ever seen. Ive imagined what moment must have created it, and i can only imagine great destruction made this possible. It never tumbled in the ocean, so back when redwoods inhabited the furthest reaches of the PNW, it was violently destroyed and immediately buried due to the sharp corners and detail, and is so "fresh" looking........ Strangest fossil ive ever seen. Wanna see it?!? 0:46

❤ Love watching you and Montana Rock Mom. I’ve been a rock enthusiast since I was a little kid (now 68 years old). I was at a garage sale and noticed a large rock (11 lbs) that looked like quartz sitting in their flower bed. So I bought it for $10.00. I’m not skilled enough or have the equipment to make correct cuts and would love to send it to you if you are interested. After looking more into it, there’s more going on with it that I can explain. I can shoot you some pictures of it if interested.

Just to make sure, what do they mean by BOTS? Does it mean Botryoidal (if misspelled, I'm not used to spelling it)? I mainly ask because I know some ptwood wood has a bubbly texture. We found a few during a montana fossil hunt! One in particular could have been chalcedony, 'cause it was slightly blue on black and white when we cleaned and dried it; but we maily thought it was somewhat opalized, which is one variation from that location!

Congratulations! Those are some wonderful finds! I know this video isn't new, but if by chance you read this, I have a large blue-gray specimen I believe it's actually opalized, matrix no fire color, I have not cut it, so no idea what could be inside. I have been wondering how I can find out what it is. I know it was wood, that's obvious. But I didn't know about this blue forest, I am now wondering if it came from there? I don't think so but it's definitely got some blue going on. Anyway if you know anyone who could help me, I would really appreciate it!
