I got the chance to dig at the Payson Diamond dig site where the very rare double terminated Pasyon Diamonds can be found. These are like Herkimer Diamonds found in Herkimer New York, but these are in Payson Arizona and they are double terminated amethyst crystals. I ended up finding a couple beautiful specimens. And they say the ones with actual purple amethyst are very rare, far more rare that the Herkimer Diamonds. Thanks to ‪@ThatCampingCouple‬ for taking me on this adventure.

Ooo Dan....trenches are not allowed there. Cannot disturb the ground surface more than the size of a waterbottle.....I hope at least you backfilled the trench.

It was to my understanding the camping couple did not fill back their giant hole last time they were in diamond point. The whole community was talking about it. Please make sure you fill your holes in. You seem like a good person and respectful of the balance in nature. That place is a special place to those of us that live in this state. . So we just want to protect it and let everyone have a chance to enjoy it too etc

Hi Dan, living in Arizona, my kid's, best friend use to hike in there all the time. We never dug, it was to easy to find diamonds on top of the ground, right after a rain they would just glisten, the best time to find them them is almost dark use your flashlight to see the diamonds clearer. Over the years I have bags and bags of them that I make into jewelery.

Wowwww that’s so amazing what I would give to do that! What an awesome time you must have finding actual treasure! The best thing we find in the uk is giant mushrooms in autumn and pretty rocks with a slice of granite through the middle. I’ve heard you can find quartz shards on Dartmoor

I grew up in Payson and would find "Payson Diamonds" when out hiking with my family. I would find them just on the surface, often on side of canyons/hills where sun light would draw draw your eyes from the reflection of the "diamond". Good fun!

I lived in Payson for awhile also, love the area. Another item that can be found in Payson are called Payson brains, which are geodes with a nodular exterior that resembles a brain. The cavity usually contains low quality quartz crystals. The largest one I found was around 8".

Hope you had fun, Dan! You were about an hour and a half west of me. I wonder if you stopped by any of the gold mines on your way there? 🤔 A heads up, 1 cubic yard per day is what is allowed to be dug. Also, all holes MUST be back-filled before leaving. I sure hope they helped to keep our forest in good shape.

@Dan Hurd ORANGE COUNTY NC IS FULL OF BRIGHT ORANGE CLAY! Home of the largest supplier of truffles to Legassi as well. I find those beautiful stones very often where I live in NC & even like a rose or red quartz look- some are within massive sized stones- one rose quartz I found weighed about 15-20 pounds or more possibly. It was huge. I was so disappointed when a neighbors kid took it from my porch & shattered it all on the parking lot 😩😩😩 These things are literally everywhere in the woods behind my home.

Did anyone read the sign? holes no bigger than a 2 liter soda bottle? need to stay 6 feet away from any tree? This kind of thing is why the rules got changed and you can no longer dig your 3ft by 3ft by 3ft holes during what used to be legal digging season...the place looked like a demolition zone before they came in and cleared out the forest of some trees. Love ya Dan but your friends steered you wrong on this one.

Really enjoyed the production quality of this video. Not sure exactly WHY I appreciated this episode so much, perhaps I caught a bit of magic in the deep trench; the feeling of discovery. Probably too, the camera angles peering into and then, up out of the trench. The gnarly roots, texture and color of the soil, all conspired to enchant me. Thanks for the feeling of wonder.😊

You can only dig the size of a Gatorade bottle 4in. X 4in. 8in. Deep. This is what the forest service was trying to prevent people from doing up there unless on a claim. You guys were at the bottom where the Diamond point area sits, where there are no claims. We know this because we just checked the status of claims on the first of this month for our friend who has a claim up there further up the road.

Honestly, who cares what they are doing. Are they harming somebody? Infringing upon somebody else's rights or freedoms? Or endangering others in ANY way shape or form? The answer is HELL NO THEY ARE NOT. Taxpayers FUND the U.S and State forest, we pay them to maintain roads and keep the trash out of the countryside, basically maintain it for OUR use. Who the hell is the corrupt government to tell ANYBODY how far into the ground they are "allowed" to dig. As well as many other issues and rules NOBODY follows because there bullshit, n everybody KNOWS IT! If you want strict fascist government, Trudeau and every other politician up there has made it exactly so. Go to Canada. You certainly don't belong in the States.
