I am currently reading the Afghanistan history book that you recommended....good, but I feel like there are too many personalities involved and it is somewhat hard to follow. But I'm gonna stick with it, I'm only about 190 pages in....Happy reading!

He tells the history in a continuous fashion. You should definitely have a diagram that maps out all the important leaders and tribes!

Could you please suggest some good book on some uncommon tribes? I am interested in reading about the life of some tribal people that have been not covered much in history.

I cannot think of any off the top of my head. But I know there are interesting books like the noble savage and human universals.

“I read Augustine’s Confessions [in translation]. Very high school level.” Wow, if that’s not itself a “very high school level” take, then I don’t know what is. Anachronistic much?
@IdeasInHat2 ай бұрын
Lol. That translation is grade school level translation. What I had said was that his theology, his style of argumentation, is high school level. Which it is. We studied Aquinas, Plato, and Socrates in high school. And their arguments are often simple, like Augustines. For instance, the prime mover argument, or the allegory of the cave, or for Augustine, saying that something is a sin because the Bible said so. These are all the style of arguments you hear amongst high schoolers. People aged 13 to 17. Whether that is a good thing or not is for you to decide.

I really liked the confessions. The section about when his mum died was heart wrenching, was pretty sad. I also liked his writing style, it's simple but also elegant, almost poetic, at least to me it seemed like it was.
