If you want a game like this, there I a game I saw in early access a year or so ago called Terra Invicta. It is pretty much Stellaris inside of our solar system as well as more complex technology and dimplomacy.

Soviets were the first to actually go to space though rather than just sending an object up there. Also the first to put an object into an actual orbit rather than only just reaching space.

Also, the Soviet Union was actually the first to soft-land something on the moon, not the United States. The Soviet Luna 9 landed on February 3rd, 1966, a few months before the United States’ Surveyor 1, which landed on May 30th, 1966. The Soviets also reached the moon first with Luna 1 flying by and Luna 2 impacting the moon, both in late 1959. The first United States’ probe to reach the moon is Ranger 7, on July 30th, 1964. The United States did send the first human to the moon, of course, with Apollo 8 being the first to orbit the moon with humans and Apollo 11 being first to land on the moon with humans.

Unfortunately for your joke, there isn't a universal night. Certain parts of earth are experiencing day while others experience night, and the sun doesn't turn off magically in accordance with what you think is night, wherever on Earth you are. I don't care if you're American like me, some guy in the outback of Australia, or currently visiting the Egyptian pyramids, the sun will shine on every part of Earth at least once per day (unless you're far away from the equator to experience permanent day or night) and it never turns off.
