On my first day in secondary school (1965 it were!), I was due to have school dinners. Sitting at the table, the older kids at the far end seemed to get the lion's share of the food, and by the time the food was passed down to us new boys at the other end, there were just scraps left. One look at that, I got up and walked home, only to be returned by my mum later that afternoon. After that, I always went home for lunch!

Frog's spawn makes me puke so I always cover my pie & mash with gravy. For afters I would've chosen jam sponge and custard. Good food and good staff are a great combination. 👍

If you go to the old town, there’s loads of little bars that do tapas, not just restaurants like here

And most of them aren't proper tapas in Benidorm, they're commercialised versions for Brits and other tourists... And you can only eat so many variations of meat, fish or veg on a peice of bread before it becomes boring but it's okay in moderation for one or two nights on a weeks holiday.

You should see what it's like today, the 11th of December, working off that menu as the pie is 2 euro the 2 blobs of mash & liquor are 5.95 which is a bit expensive. That was not an apple pie it was a tart as a pie has a topping. Further up the street is the 1 euro a pint bar on the left.

Personally, I would have gone for the Steak & Ale pie and the Chicken & Ham. But there is no right or wrong, just different preferences. 10/10 for authenticity and being traditional but that comes with a negative; whilst I would give the pies and liquor 10/10 on appearance (I have nothing else to judge by since I am not eating it), I have to give the mash a 0/10 on appearance. The mash is 100% traditional "pie shop" mash but that being the case, it looks dry and lumpy. I much prefer my mash more of a pommes purée style with tones of butter and milk. I have never combined crumble with pie before, but I defintely should! Damn, that looked delicious! On price, I 100% agree, an unbeatable bargain!

Sadly, that looked terrible pie and mash. Pie crust was all wrong, mince looked dry as anything, base was too thin, mash didn’t look fresh and the liquor was too thick and gloopy. You’ll never get pie and mash anywhere like London and the SE, especially Maureen’s in Poplar, the kings of pie and mash. Gary eats went mental over it
