Hi Guys! I've had my eye on the Nomad Lane Bento Bag for some time now, but couldn't justify the cost. I went looking for the retired V3 version and stumbled upon the Hershel Bowen Bag instead - it turns out, it's an affordable dupe with a special bonus feature that might make it even better?! This is a 30L bag with the same clamshell opening that makes it perfect for use as a personal item bag. I picked this one up for only $25 at Marshalls. I found a similar item on Amazon - it is linked below. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!

The quality and workmanship of HQDUPS's high-end imitation bags are very satisfactory. The soft and delicate leather shows that the materials are quite good. The texture of the metal accessories also makes the bag look very high-end. The fine processing of details makes this bag look no less inferior to the original.

I have been looking at the Nomad Lane bag for awhile. This is so comparable, but the backpack straps are a real game changer for me. Im going to head over to Marshalls and get one this week!

Great video! I’ve been wanting the Nomad Lane bag, but couldn’t justify spending that much $ for it. This is a great alternative and I will be picking it up…thank you ❤

I found it - I love it!! 5 overnight work trips in!! You saved me a bundle as I was looking at the Bento Bag which led me to this video. I went to Marshalls the same day and found the last one there. I may replace the strap with a more substantially padded one but no biggie! Thank you so much!

Did you ever replace the strap? Or, could you maybe buy a shoulder pad and add that to the existing strap!

OMGosh I wrote a LONG full review (I’ve never written one) of the V3 Nomad Lane Bento and it deleted itself when I switched over to another app for a second. 😢 So, I’ll save that for another time, another place. :-) What I really wanted to say anyway was that, although I love the Herschel brand, love the hidden backpack straps, and the price is AMAZING, I would still prefer the Nomad Lane in this case. For the money, the Herschel is a great deal and looks like a great bag. But I wanted to add this here just in case someone was still trying to decide between the two. This is the reason I prefer the Bento without hesitation: On all versions of the Nomad Lane Bento Bags, there are pockets and accessible compartments that you only need to unzip one zipper on the top of the bag to easily access. By design, all your items should be very organized, so you should not have to “search” for anything. In an airplane, in the middle of a flight, if I need some lip balm or protein bar or cord or whatever, with an eye mask still on, I could bend forward, feel for the correct zipper, unzip it, grab my item, zip it back up, push it back under the seat, and resume snoozing. No problem. Personally, I would aesthetically prefer a less structured bag, but the Bento Bag is amazing, it needs the structure, and I would have a very hard time parting with it. Especially while flying or taking a long roadtrip. Nope. It’s just too good. To be fair, I know someone who travels quite a bit and decided not to use the Bento Bag. She didn’t care for the number of pockets in which you can store things. She felt she was always searching for the correct pocket. She ended up with a semi-structured tote with a big open design. On her bag there are very few places to tuck things away. She did keep the Bento Bag in case she changed her packing style though. So it really depends on your own personal preferences. There’s no wrong here, especially with brands like Nomad Lane and Herschel. One other thing, I coveted the Version 4 when it was released. But I have decided to stick with the Version 3 for now. Mostly because they changed the style of the main outer side pocket - it is no longer gusseted. They also did away with the outer charging port. The probably had a good reason. Maybe the new pocket style or the fact that the charging port has already started becoming obsolete without adapters. No one wants an obsolete tech feature on their bag investment. But I love the feature and hope I can continue to use it for a long time - with adapters. :-) However, if I lost my Version 3, I would buy a Version 4 in a heartbeat. I cannot travel without it… AND I love the magnetic phone pocket.

I gotta be honest... This bag becomes such a pain when it's fully packed! It's like trying to squeeze too many clothes into a small suitcase - it just doesn't fit comfortably. The discomfort can be a real challenge; it's like carrying a bag filled with uneven, lumpy rocks, and those shoulder straps feel like they're poking at you. Honestly, if you're considering a bag, the original Nomad Lane Bento Bag is still a more comfortable choice. 😅

This may be an older model. The bag in the Herschel website no longer has the backpack straps and the shoulder strap is thicker and padded on their website

Thank you for your review. It is always great to see the features of a bag for help in deciding if it is the bag for you. While I love the price point and that it is a clamshell open, to me it doesn’t have the accessibility features necessary for a personal item. Having to open the bag clamshell style in flight to access your laptop, an iPad or hoodie would be inconvenient to me and the person sitting next to me. I much prefer the ability to access those items via a top zipper like in the Bento bag. Still, I appreciate the review as I now know to keep looking.

I think you misunderstood. There’s absolutely no reason why you couldn’t unzip the bag partially (rather than fully opening it clamshell style) to get to the large electronic pockets found on the inside. Like the Bento bag when it is standing up, you open both zippers from the “top” to gain access to your laptop or iPad. Again, unzip it partially; not the full length of the clamshell. Go to the 3:03 mark of the video. All the best!

@@user-wd8sd7ec2z Unfortunately, my electronics are not the only things I need easy access to. I also like to be able to grab my hoodie, my snacks, my water bottle and tech pouch. Still a great bag, just not for me.

I've looked everywhere for this exact same bag, even went to their site but they don't have this one that converts to a backpack, they have a very similar one without the hidden backpack straps and they cost way, way more

Looking at this and the bento in my search for a roomy personal item. I really like the roomy-ness of this one since it doesn't come with the pouch pockets. However the measurements of this bag are a few inches more than the bento's in every direction and it won't work as a personal item for all airlines.

Great video! I have the same question, can you access items in flight without opening the clamshell?
@courtroomsandcrayons
@courtroomsandcrayons 9 ай бұрын
Great question - no, it doesn't have the same top pocket access like the Bento Bag does. It does have that separate zipper at the front for smaller items, but no alternative access to the main portion of the bag.
@user-wd8sd7ec2z
@user-wd8sd7ec2z 3 ай бұрын
@@Lisa-Leah It depends: if you’re wanting to reach in & grab your laptop or maybe a tablet, then yes you can. Just stand it up and open both zippers enough to get your hand in and to get the electronics out. If you’re wanting to get clothes out, you can do that… but you’ll have to leave the inside sides unzipped to get in & out of those sections.
