Cool idea - just wanted to shed some light on why this isn't something that is done at the pro level 1. SF is generally a lane dominator, scales well with levels AND items (something rare), and is easily ganked (similar to a zues). This allows him to be picked early in the draft. By being picked early in the draft, the hero will generally perform worse. (On average, earlier picked heroes do worse statistically. There are a few exceptions). 2. Offlane (in the current meta) performs one of two roles. Either initiator (think Sladar, Batrider, Tidehunter, Mars etc) or Objective Taking (think Broodmother, Natures prophet, Lycan, Beastmaster, Viper etC). Shadowfiend is strictly worse that the heroes listed above in those roles. 3. Bkb first item is generally a requirement for offlane in this meta. While Shadowfiend can go Bkb first, it heavily hampers his combo ability and he's naturally a lower HP hero. Leading teamfights with him would be disastrous Like I said, I think it's a cool idea but I put this along the same lines of Jungle Crystal Madien (Hard Support). It CAN be done, and you CAN win, but if you're playing professionals I would use a more optimal strategy.

​@@ChrisTay229 eh, in pubs dota is such a mistake filled game that's it's hard to argue that concept even exists. for example a hero might be good in pro play because it enables a specific counterplay against common compositions playing at a certain skill level... but in pubs that don't even form the right composition, can't hit farm timings, can't co-ordinate then the reason for doing the counter-play doesn't exist and therefore the "good" hero isn't even good comparatively. conversely a hero might be good for pubs because it doesn't require any special skills but once acquiring those skills other heros might be better suited despite being less conventional. it's not that something would win in spite of and you're just outskilling the opponents in this case, it's just that skill level acts as a barrier for a hero being optimal in that case. game knowledge can also play that role as well. I think asking yourself this question in anything but scrims and pro games is kind of useless, dota is far too complex a game and if anything is at least "working" level of viable it's going to require 100+ games of experimentation to get anything remotely close to an objective answer whether or not you're winning in spite of or because of. even then it could be viable right up until someone does something equally weird as sf offlane for you to see a rebuttal of your strategy.

i sometimes play support SF when playing with my friends. because 1) his ult is really helpful during early game till mid game, 2) if your team is playing push, easy clear of creeps. 3) fast farming support. 4) no item needed just ult (or euls for solo kill)

People might think that buying 5 mangoes is trolling but if you play a hero with high early nuke and control, you best believe I will also add 2 clarities on it. Like when I play Lich, that's what I do, 5 mangoes 2 clarities with restock every 1 minutes and you best believe I get 10 or more kills with my core combined in just laning phase. I simply trade my gold and regen for EXP and more gold for my core. That's how I get 80% win rate on laning phase with my duo.

I've been doing offlane sf for a while already. sf is a good laner but his weakness in the offlane if being ganked early, especially with enemy Marci or other annoying supports. win the game and it's a normal win but lose it and you get all the blame even if other lanes were much worst that yours.

In my mind, pros didn't play SF like a real SF. Mask of madness basically makes you like a passive tower and not buying early shard I think where they fall off. SF is semi untouchable with it, heck I even skip buying bkb because of that fear right clicks. On madness build, you need to farm 4k gold for bkb just to survive unlike the 1.4k shard with fear and guaranteed crits. Then, MoM silences you, and can't even use the right click fear which can even stop an enemy offlane initiate like RPs, etc.

I used to use the same strat with the same logic "The fear works the same way as a stun". There were unending amounts of people flaming me for it in the lower brackets and I eventually had to stop. There only so many minute 1 afk carrys I can take.
