My best guess is that the lakitues above spawn mushrooms and affect frame rate in some manner. So the less actually gets on the screen the better you do. My guess is to somehow manipulate the game to run better or the ability to take more mushrooms on screen effect it less. The second thing is somehow removing the animation of you standing up then you duck. So think ways you can skip frames or animation in the transformation so it itself be faster and you can start moving earlier. For this my best guess is to run into it directly and duck jump in the same frame you get it.
