So I had to purchase a new timing chain kit because of the damage from the exhaust sprocket. I didn’t want to risk a fatigued chain or any of the guides, so I played it on the safe side and bought a new kit. I also decided to get my hands on a higher quality torque wrench over using my cheaper ones. I fortunately had a friend who has a top of the line wrench and let me use it for the installation of the camshafts and timing components. And guess what..? IT ALL WORKS!!!

Should ALWAYS hand rotate an engine after every part is installed
@autosport3081
@autosport3081 5 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%,he should of hand rotate the engine with valve cover off,to see if everything runs as it should,and hand tight won't damage the engine like the starter would.

Yeah problem is the hydraulic tensioner.... the tensioner will probably not expand and cause it to jump a tooth. In some cars you can counter clockwise the engine slightly so the chain slaps the tensioner and creates tension. Not as easy as spinning the engine like other cars. Some cars are different

I double the Post from Damien Doc, the Camshaft-Sprockets (Vanos on Intake and normal Sprocket on Exhaust) have to be oilfree at the matingpoints. There is no Key, so Friction is the Thing that holds the SProckets in Place. You should use Breakcleaner. After the Bolts are torqued down, you can oil the Sprockets, but not before!

Hi Milan it's definitely a very good job and you're lucky don't have no more damage on the engine But i can suggest you a problem on your procedure to install intake and exaust sprockets I have done a lot of research on this because my car (Peugeot 308) has exactly the same engire, and it's pretty sure that it's not the good procedure to put the sprocket in oil One of the main problem of this engine is that after time you loose timing on the intake and exaust camshats because it's only torque tightening and not keyed The procedure i read is that the sprockets and the face of the camshafts must be clean without oil at all and dry before installing the bolt After you can had oil as you want I hope my explanation are clear, i'm French and my English is not perfect Hope you have no problem to drive this beautiful Mini now, i follow this building and it's an incredible job

I'm sure you know this, but I just had the SAME bolt break on my MINI due to the vacuum pump locking up. The parts inside the pump were shiny and well lubed, but there is a very small hole that allows oil into the internals of the pump - it might be worth taking yours off and making sure the channels are clear

Awesome can't wait to see her go! If you want to force her into limp mode for the break-in period just leave the wire for the pressure sensor on the high-pressure fuel rail unplugged. That will limit the RPMs to about 3.5K and the top speed to about 110 KM/h.

1:57 because you need a special torquemeter to torque angles (eg 180°), and the tolerance is only 5% so you won't be able to do it accurate by eyeballing it.
@viewfield5
@viewfield5 Жыл бұрын
its 5 degrees the tolerance, and on the exhaust cam bolt its 20Nm plus 90 degrees, in previous video he torqued the cam bolts to 15nm when the head was off the block, so any further tightening of the bolt is going to weaken it.

You put fresh break-in oil back in, right? Break-in oil is meant to be run for several hundred miles or even a couple thousand. The high ZDDP and moly assists in continually plating wear surfaces as they are mated together because they wear down significantly faster than normal during the first few thousand miles. If I was you, following this mishap I would fill with fresh break-in oil and a new filter (like you said you did), and I would change both out for fresh break-in oil and a new filter at 500 miles. Then let that oil go for another 1,500 miles. After 1,500 miles, put a new filter and a premium SN full synthetic and a new filter. I personally like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum because the gas-to-liquid base stock is exceptionally high quality.

Wrong. You need to drive it gently. Plus, he HAS to drive it gently because that new clutch has a break in period and it also demands gentle driving. Abusing a new clutch glazes it and it'll slip under max torque and in top gear.
