The term “ Stinking Rich “ came from graveyards. Bodies buried in the ground, the odours would be absorbed but people that could afford overground crypts stunk. As their bodies decomposed a bad stench would waft across the graveyard… hence the term “ Stinking Rich “ ❤️🐾
@thelmaguaetta11098 ай бұрын
The decomposition of soft tissue should have taken place long before now, leaving only the bones. There has to be another source of the smell.

Thanks for the fallow up video Dan, and bringing closure to the smelly mystery. One would think that after so much time the remains would be past the worst of the smell. Perhaps the coffins where very well sealed in the beginning, and over time where exposed to water that broke down the caskets exposing the remains. May they rest in peace. 🙏
@dm6078 ай бұрын
Hmmmm, something is very dodgy with the stinky mausoleum! There should be about 10 family members in there. Caskets are usually, but not always, placed on shelves of some sort above the ground. A casket from 1965 should still be there even with water damage. I've seen other completely waterlogged mausoleums where caskets and skeletons are visible. This is a mystery Dan. Deb of Oz.

Not true. I explore abandoned houses. I once went into this house that was abandoned since the 1960s. And in the house, under the bed. Was a casket of their dead pet cat. Which said it died in the 60s. And the smell was so so so bad. To the point I could not stay in the room.

The most likely cause of that smell is from a mix of mold and mildew inside that mausoleum. That thing has serious moisture issues as evidenced by the stalactites growing from the ceiling.

Hi , it may have been a good idea to report the smell it to whoever runs the cemetary and possibly the police or local council so it can be investigated through legal means. I know you did no damage with the drain camera looking through the cracks but it is rather intrusive from the familys perspective i would imagine.

There would have to be another explanation for the smell unfortunately, anything open to the elements and in the state of decomposition (past decomposition even) shown in the video would not produce a smell as pungent as described. For some reason, some of the drain cam views do remind me of a few of the more gross ear exams I’ve had to do over the years 🤢🤣

I really think the bodies in the crypt or mosoleum would have decomposed long ago. I think it was probably a dead animal or something close by that you could smell. Because like i said they are past that point in that mosoleum for the smell to have been them. Also they say that negative entities often smell like some thing dead. Maybe you were in close proximity to one that day you witnessed the smell. Who knows just a couple suggestions. Stay safe blessings for your protection. Cheers. 😊

Different people have different sensitivities to the smell of decomposition. The smell is atrocious to me, but I once had to retrieve a decomposing opossum from an enclosed space and my neighbor was trying to help me, and my neighbor was having a worse time of it as he kept gagging and threatening to vomit. I had to take the lead and was able to do it without all the drama. I was more concerned with him vomiting on me than I was at the smell of the dead animal. 😂 Of course he may have been exaggerating to get out of the dirty work, but I think he was genuinely more effected than I was by the smell.

Earlier poster mentioned the length of time of the smell being due to the white residue/ stalagtites being saponified and or melted fat releasing scent when sufficiently wet. Its exposure to water is probably also why its in the icicle shaped stalagtite formations ( if thats what it is) due to seeping from shelves or stacking coffins etc. That would hold the smell and periodically release it. Also i hav had the misfortune of encountering the same odor release phenomena with an old pile of building remnants soneone stepped thru which had been torn down probably after a body had been recovered afte4 decomposing there and the overpowering smell of human decomp released despite never having been detectable in the building prior to that. I think porous surfaces i.e. the stone floor can hold in the decomposed liquid and fat only to release the odor in certain conditions Human decomp has a sickly sweet and distinctly greasy smell that is particularly unique and very different from that of other creatures. It also spreads further in higher concentration than even other large mammals.

Really fascinating. I would have thought that if they could afford a mausoleum plus a chapel above they would have used led lined coffins. However I guess they could have burst open at some point fairly recently hence the stink I assume the chapel was accessed behind the mausoleum. It would be interesting to know if anyone has a key to the door and if the lock works which I would assume is extremely unlikely.

So you’re going to tell me, that in that stinky mausoleum where you say there is nothing left, all the hardware from the coffins are gone? Wasn’t the last body buried in 1965? Should be some metal left from that coffin.
@terramarini68808 ай бұрын
Not all mausoleums were utilized the same way, it depended on whether entire families or just a single body or couple would be interred. Some buried the coffins below the floors, some installed them in niches in the walls and some had a platform/s upon which the casket/s were displayed. Sometimes a body was laid out to decompose either on it's own or in a temporary casket, the bones in this case would later be gathered and installed beneath the floor or in a niche in the wall in smaller containers and the platform would be ready for the next. It is the families responsibility to maintain the mausoleum and the structural issues and disaster inside indicate an end to the family lineage or finances, the last deceased to be laid to rest did not get to finish the process. I think those may have been bones and the white stuff looked like saponified fat which is probably what is stinking when it gets wet.
@Miniver7658 ай бұрын
Coffins in the UK tend to be wooden. In a damp, acidic environment, a wooden coffin interred in 1965 would still have rotted away long ago along with the body inside. Any metal hardware would have corroded or rusted away beyond identification. The open vents at the side allowed a great deal of moisture to enter the mausoleum, thereby speeding up decay. I suspect the Butterfield family lineage ended quite some time ago, and that would explain the condition of the mausoleum.
