@SWF Beach Life , I've been on Sanibel since Nov.11th but heading out tomorrow, the 19th. I've had a ball and found so many amazing shells. My friend found 2 huge conch shells. We traveled to Fort Myers Sunday and was saddened by the devastation. I have been down a few times since Ian but seeing the debris and homes gone,its just so empty and vacant. Ill be back in March and will be staying on Fort Myers beach. Until then ill deal with my shelling withdrawls by watching you. Thank you for teaching me so much about shells/ shelling.

And there are so many deceased ones. I really hope the other shell collectors only took them, and not the live ones. Hopefully, they know the difference. It has been months since you've found sea urchins. They must have had a really hard time after hurricane Ian. Hopefully, you will see more alive little ones. That first hermit crab was hilarious. Bleach and acid are the only 2 chemicals I've found that are effective at cleaning shells. If you have used bleach water and the build up didn't come off, it's likely not coming off. You can try 100% straight bleach and see if that helps but that's all I got.

Happy shelling, everybody! I need your help with this one. While snorkeling on Bowman’s Beach a few days ago (November 14th, Sanibel Island, extremely poor visibility), I found a Brown Tibia (Tibia insulaechorab) shell. Yep, the one that is native to the western Indian Ocean. Perfect condition, shiny and glossy, just perfect. The problem? It doesn’t belong here. Is this a prank? Did someone purchase it from a shell shop (She Sells Sea Shells is my favorite) and threw it in the ocean? (that’s my theory, anyway). Any thoughts?
@SWFBeachLifeАй бұрын
That is what we call a "wedding shell." It happens to the best of us! People throw parties, weddings, celebrations of some sort on the beach and use seashells as decorations. Those decorations can get left behind and the next thing you know, a sheller finds it! It's happened to me with a really cool turrid. Enjoy that cool shell that you didn't have to buy in a gift shop 😂
