I've been motorcycle camping since 1978. I'm not going to change now. I don't need internet while travelling. I prefer places where free camping is allowed. If you like visiting cities, hostels may be a good idea. The problem with hostels and hotels is that you often need a reservation. I never follow a fixed schedule. I stay longer at places I like. I've always been able to find a place to put up a tent - even in high season. Everyone should do what they like. What is best for one is not the best for someone else.

Same goes for me. I usually keep my distance to cities and cheap accomodation in rural areas is ususally quite difficult to get. In the Balkans, it's okay though. Camping advantage: You stay next to your bike and the risk of it getting stolen is 0%.

The adventure starts as soon as I leave home. Being a city-kid I try to book my overnight stays on farms where I‘ll stay for at least 4days. Have used hostels and Airbnb‘s for short stays when on the move to break up long distances. I used to go camping in a tent but stopped that some 20 years ago which has left more room on my motorcycle. Excellent choice of music Miles, totally enjoyable 😉

Just did a tour through Slovenia and adjacent countries last week, stayed at campsites most of the time (except one night when I was soaked by the rain). But I'll keep hostels in mind for next time, not really more expensive than camping after all.

I really see the benefits of Hostel/hotel. Especially when you calculate the time to unpack/pack your stuff. (For me at least one hour) The camping grounds are also very expensive these days. So I do loose also Holiday time for getting my tent etc. you can Choose what is the better Option. Ok in very nice Environment its nice. But its really depending. My tip in eastern Europe is also to buy like the whole room for myself 😅. So I do have the Hostel experience but can sleep by myself.

Where I live in Canada, hostels are not an option. The one’s that there are, I would probably stay away from. That being said, I’ve also not seen camp sites before like you have been staying at. It looks like you are sleeping in a field or someone’s lawn at their home. The camp sites here are in the woods and the sites are decently separated, if you pay for a site at a Provincial park. The main choice here is to wild camp on public land, since most of the area is public land. Go down a logging road, trapper’s trail or forest access road and you will have a place to camp where you can have an open fire by a lake, stream or river. There are also lots of good places to wet a line and have some fresh fish for supper. The bonus is that there is no charge. The downside for a KZbinr is there there is no electricity, limited cell and Wi-Fi. With the money that you don’t spend to sleep at night, there is money to stay at a cheap motel, once or twice a week. That gives you some privacy, with time and space to spruce up yourself and gear, as well as get necessary chores done.

If nice hostels are available, for all the reasons you mentioned, that would be the choice. But, I’m in the United States. Especially in the western US, lots of public land, and free camping in pretty remote areas. Not a lot of hostels, or sometimes even hotels, so you camp In the wild. Camping in remote wild places would be a really different experience than hostel travel in Europe. It takes time, but eventually you do get comfortable being in wild places. :)

To each his own preference. I’m doing a 1 week solo motorcycling roadtrip as we speak through France and camping the whole week. Campings in France are very good mostly and between 10 and 20 euro’s per night for 1 person. I would not like the busy environment of a city or hostel. And also I like to know that my motorcycle is safe next to my tent 😊

If I travel with my friends (a group of four), camping is the best and cheapest thing. We mostly do wild camping, searching a bit for a good spot (hidden and maybe with an ice-cold river to bathe) and we use the toilets of restaurants or Raststätten. We have quite good equipment to cook, and It's still cheaper, it pays off. And if we want to have a less adventurous vacation, we rent a whole apartment (5 people) bc that's the cheapest way.

I think your biggest problem is that you have to edit videos and deal with terrible Wi-Fi connections and long upload times for KZbin. This is the reason I don’t do this on a trip I prefer to edit after the trip. It’s a lot of stress to find proper Wi-Fi connections and sitting down for hours and waiting for upload. On Hostel theme: first it’s total different feeling if you go in a hotel or hostel or sleeping outside. Sure, it’s not comfortable but the real feeling you’re only get the nature. It’s also better to go for wild camping. The big problems with hostels is that you can’t sleep because a lot of people jumping around in the rooms and switching lights off and on. In long-term, it’s nerving. in the nature you have your peace on my trip I prefer mix of camping, wild camping hotels. In general, it’s better to be independent of some big cities. In remote areas you can’t find hostels anyway. 😀

The way I see it, assuming I make ~400km daily, at 5L/100km it is ~20L of fuel or 32 Euro with Czech fuel prices. +Food expenses during the trip. +Bike maintenance cost (tire change price, oil change price, other things). So probably in the end the difference the price per night makes isn't that huge.
@joergbeigang6 ай бұрын
I actually like camping, but can’t stand camp sites. Camp sites are the exact opposite of building a camp in the nature and feeling free. In fact you’re packt together, far too close with others. Pretty much like a chicken farm, except chickens don’t need to walk to the sanitary facilities carrying their own roll of toilet paper. As long as the parking is safe I’d get a room all the way, even if it’s double or triple the price.
@FreeMilesMC6 ай бұрын
In some Countrys there are still some quite campinggrounds tho

@@FreeMilesMC I obviously exaggerated a little. Small ones and especially off season can be quite alright. As you already pointed out it’s just this value for money thing. Btw. if you’re heading back via Italy and want to test ride a Buell, drop me a line.

Regarding to stay overnight, I do have two problems: I am (or my body is) too old for camping. Although I think nothing matches better to motorbike travelling. I hate being in a sleeping room along with strangers. Therefore, I just have one option left which is to stay in hotels or similar. And of course this makes travelling more expensive. 🤷🤔

Da ich meistens mit einem Spezl unterwegs bin, sind normale Unterkünfte meist der deutlich bessere Deal als Camping Plätze und oft nur marginal teurer als Hostels oder gar gleich im Preis.
