As an East Bengal FC fan or primarily a Kolkata football fan in general, I respect the atmosphere of Kerala Blasters fans. Cheers and greetings. I know in previous decades, many Malayalis were fans of East Bengal or Mohun Bagan and used to support our football passionately. And in peak Bengal football era, there were multiple derbies in a single city of Kolkata with of course, the big 2 and with the addition of Mohameddan FC, George Telegraph FC, etc, just like what happens in London today in EPL. And these clubs represented different groups and their reasons for support as well. One thing I would say however, that this Kerala atmosphere is in 33k capacity stadium though it is reduced to this due to regulations. And maybe (big maybe) Kolkata can replicate or surpass it if the Kolkata clubs also played in a small capacity stadium and especially if there was a single club in the city or state which had a single fanbase. I'm not complaining for both the reasons though. Those are sort of good problems to have. 😅 This brings me to the point that you, Thogden, should come and visit the Kolkata ISL derby (East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan). At its peak capacity, Salt Lake stadium, the stadium which hosts both the clubs currently, was the 2nd largest in the world with 120,000 to 130,000 and it was jam packed during derbies. Now, its capacity is reduced after some renovation. Messi heavily praised the atmosphere and I was one of the 75000 who attended his match vs Venezuela. It still would be in top 20 and the derbies are still lit. Other matches are also alright but not that much.
