Dude...the bell on the door is there for the same reason as the long corridor with the two doors between the workroom and the main receiving room; it's a small mortuary, with potentially only one person in the building (the mortician) when clients come in looking for a place to handle their deceased loved ones. The mortician is probably in the workroom, working on a body, when the clients come in; the bell lets them know that someone else has come in, so they need to wash up and go put on their best customer service face to interact with the potential clients. The long corridor with the two doors is to make sure that potential clients don't see what happens to their potential loved ones, because most people just don't handle it very well, and also because whoever is currently on the table probably isn't related to them in any way and deserves at least that much dignity (no being eyeballed by strangers during the embalming!). The thing I don't get is why there's a long corridor between the cold storage and the workroom. I mean, for spooks, obviously, but from a practicality standpoint, is there a reason? The only thing I could think of is to keep the workroom from getting too cold to be comfortable for living humans to work in, but there's a big 'ol furnace in the cold storage so that's probably not the reason.

It is my understanding that most morticians use standard medical equipment which is made to be single use by default. So certain things just wont work nearly as well the second time around. And that isn't even considering the potential disease issues. Sure, the body doesnt have to worry about diseases but the living people surrounding said body do have to worry about it.

Insym the Bell is perfectly reasonable to be there. The Point is that you will hear someone come in while working in the back. Its the same as the Bell at a Reception incase the Receptionist is in the back. It lets you know someone is there so they dont have to wait for Ages, or have to scream after you.

I really love this game. This is the true horror game, jumpscares are subtle, no loud sounds, it's just perfect horror game I really some horror games to be like this in the future. I’ve never seen this game before how cool. My mother was an embalmer in the UK in the early 80s and she used to bring her equipment home and clean them so she used to bring it home and it was reusable , i’m not sure how it works now though I just remember having a lot of boxes and a lot of metal equipment and it was really fascinating to me. She used to take me sometimes and I used to mix make up behind a curtain while she was working. one of her favourite sayings though was don’t be afraid of the dead only the living can hurt you . she would’ve loved this game LOL

The ghost/demons you see during a spook event are grouped into categories such as jackal being the creepy pale ghost, the wraith being the pale women in the white dress, and the shadow. The three ghost are different from the demon if that all makes sense. The three ghost are explanted in the computer. I believe you missed the three ghost definitions during your early play through.

I'll take a stab at explaining the demon thing: In the mythology this game is drawing from (which is largely Christian, with a mix of some elements from Solomonic / Goetic philosophy) demons are amorphous, and they are legion (meaning even though we talk about it as one demon, it's not really a single thing like a person is). The various entities that you found in the computer are worldly manifestations that the demon is using in order to appear. This is why it appears as those various forms and also as the dead bodies - most likely when you see the dead bodies standing up and walking around that's probably not the actual dead body, because as soon as you turn back, the body is right where you left it. It's more likely to be the demon appearing as that body in order to provoke fear. Someone in chat mentioned that the "real demon" is in the basement - this isn't quite the case. In this game's mythology (and also Christian mythology), a demonic force can possess a person, but still manifest its power externally, which is why the one demon can effectively possess the dead body, Vallery, and Rebecca all at the same time - it isn't actually fully possessing all of them at the same time, it's transferring its "energy" between the different vessels (as evidenced by Raymond's tapes). However, it has a hard time possessing a new vessel at first, and basically needs to be let in willingly (also an element of Christian demonology), which is why we see Rebecca's struggle with guilt and self-doubt: the demon isn't just trying to scare her, it's trying to convince her that she's not worth it, and that she should give in and let the demon inhabit her. So, in the end, the demon isn't really one thing, it's a malign force that has evil intention, and expresses that intention through worldly manifestation in people (presumably by doing evil things like killing). The demon's "tricks", i.e. showing up as the Shadow Man, the Woman in White, or the Mimic, or even pushing Rebecca, slamming cold storage doors shut, or the massive hallucinations that Rebecca experiences are all ultimately harmless. The only thing that can actually hurt Rebecca, or anybody who the demon is targeting, is the withering of their motivation to continue and ultimately giving up, because once that happens, the demon wins. Until that happens, the demon is pissed off, because it's stuck, and it provokes in order to try to get out of its shitty situation. This is why in the bad ending when Rebecca becomes possessed and kills Raymond, the demon speaks through her and sounds so relieved to finally be in her. It has won, it now has a new vessel (which isn't trapped in a coffin), and can do whatever it wants. Another aspect of Christian demonology that I've heard of which supports this idea is the notion that demons are unable to experience sensation unless through a vessel - i.e. they cannot feel pain, or pleasure, or anything that's a part of our experience, all they can do until they possess someone is simply be annoying as shit, but even then, they probably don't get any actual sensation from the spooks they cause. So in the game, the demon IS already manifest in a vessel: Vallery. But she's trapped, so its range of physical experience is very limited, and may as well be useless. It can't hurt itself or anyone else, it can't experience pleasure. Most of the time it can't even see. (a quote that always stuck with me, from Locke & Key was a spirit basically saying "I like the way the meat feels". It's a very vulgar and visceral way to express this same concept, but it made it click in my head, and lines up with a lot of demon fiction). Hope that makes sense. As always, I could easily be wrong about any or all of this, it's just my take, but the game seems to do a really solid job of being rooted in existing Christian demonology concepts.

The one thing that didn't quite set right with me about this game... the way they describe the demon blood, it's supposed to be a catalyst, something that would bind "your" demon to the corpse. The way this game operates sometimes is like, the demon has control over the dead bodies even before adding the blood to the tank... granted it could all "be in your head" IDK just doesn't make much sense with the story.

The demon blood is meant to make the demon's presence more known in the body it's chosen to bind itself to before possessing a living person. The blood is 'activated' by the demon's presence. Akin to dropping a seltzer in water vs vinegar, this would let you more easily identify which body the demon is hiding in.

I think what makes this game so special is that usually you try to survive demons or other monsters attacking you, but in mortuary assistant you don't try to survive in the same way and you can't prevent the jumpscares, so you are less in danger but also scares are guaranteed
