Last time I found ~20 year old sheet music it was an orphaned viola part from a string quartet I wrote freshman year, the other 3 parts had been lost to time and/or a shoebox in the back of the cellist's closet. Though it was a fun exercise to try recreating the rest of the instruments without changing the viola part at all, using that part and half a memory of how it originally went.

this is my favorite kind of video, explaining what you were/are thinking, why what works works and why what does not work does not and how to "fix it" in different ways.

Such a good point about the lead sheet. I used to be a regular at a Jazz basement spot in London (Hi Paul at the Spice of Life!) where it was definitely a music education, especially watching groups of musicians, who might never have played together before often being handed lead sheets by a singer on the spot, and basically just playing the song. No tabs, rehearsals, or discussions. Just great musicians who knew their craft, and understood what they were doing, and what the singer wanted. This level of musicianship i have rarely encountered outside of the Jazz world.

Re the Song itself... sounds like when you were writing it, the first half, which flows nicely and naturally, led you to the point where you wanted a modulation, but that got away with you and it lost its way somewhat, not helped by probably shoe-horning in that particular lick you mentioned. Always good to come back to stuff one did as one's younger self, to see how one's knowledge and taste has changed over the years! 😃

It does give off anime opening vibes so I won’t deny that but it especially makes me think that I’m out at a fancy restaurant on a date and some nice jazz is playing in the background, definitely dig it even though I’m not that great at jazz myself lol

Hey Trey, just finished your lyric course. Is there a way to easily apply the lessons in the lyric course to lyrics that I have already written?
@treyxaviermusic5 ай бұрын
Awesome, thanks for taking the course! Well, there's rarely an easy way to do anything in art, but you can totally apply it to what you've already written - if you're willing to be ruthless with it and not precious. If you're too attached to what you've got, then it's better to start with new material. Otherwise, take stock of what you've written, objectively as you can, and replace words with better ones, remove filler and cliches, move things to rhyme better, and find better and more interesting ways to say the same things you're saying. Good luck!

Over all a polite Coffee House jam. Well done! Earned my FOllow for real:) I think I can learn a few things from you!
