Cash converters normally seel their for what you can buy brand new. But sometimes you can find a shop with no guitar players. They do a quick check on the Internet and get confused, I bought an Epiphone sg 310, and I think they with the sg special.

That's an Encore. They had a deal with many education authorities resulting in Encore guitars and basses finding homes in many secondary schools. When I taught D&T , I was often asked to do some work on these instruments and although the hardware was a bit weedy, the overall construction and materials were pretty impressive. I got one not as deliberately massacred as in this vid, but still pretty battered for 30 quid, and with a refinish and other modifications, it's now an excellent instrument. The later ones had ply bodies, but mine's from probably the early 90s and is solid alder. If you want a cheap bass to tart up, you can't go wrong with one of these.

I bought a cheap £80 Sub Stingray from Bethnal Green Cash Converters in 2015. It’s long gone but I shimmed the neck and it had the most insane action of any bass I’ve played. Even with twangy steel roto rounds there wasn’t a single dead spot or buzz, the string action was practically the other side of the fretboard, it was effortless to play.

Some of the best instruments I've plkayed were the cheapest, most fucked up shit I've ever seen. Used to work in this music shop, one day came in this ibanez GIO, covered in random stickers, paint ok but the bridge was rusted, and more that I can't remember. But after a good cleanup and the quickest setup I've ever done, it was the best playing guitar in the whole shop imo. Suckh versatility, ease of use, comfort, it just falls right in the hands of anybody. This was my go-to for clients who wanted to try amps, because it was just perfect, with no outstanding personality or quirks. It was the cheapest electric guitar in the whole shop too, if I'm not mistaken.
