Thanks for this video! I have been all-in with GRF for the past year, forsaking all other golf instruction. I have since experienced the purest, most effortless strikes in my life, not to mention that I can now use every club in the bag. In my opinion, this is the only way golf should be taught. You are a fantastic student, Luke, and it was a pleasure getting to see your journey in this lesson! Thanks again, and keep up the great work.

This is brilliant, and you explained it so well. This will feel very foreign to most people, as they are only using their upper body to swing the club. This activation of the feet, legs, and hips will add sooooo much snap through the ball, with no extra effort. Great video!

I have almost the exact same starting average yardage (~155) for my 7i, and my goal is to be able to carry 170 consistently. I see 165+ on good days. I’ve only carried 170+ once in my life and I had no idea what I did right. This video gives me a lot of hope, can’t wait to try at the range! Current 7i swing speed 88-92 mph varying.

@@AlastairBarker appreciate the comment and generally agree, though I’m optimizing for distance then tuning precision and accuracy in that sequence. Doesn’t make sense for me to lock in my current swing if there’s something fundamentally wrong about it. I used to swing at ~72 mph and scoopy/early extension but very consistent. That didn’t work too well for me for various reasons. My dispersion is wider now but knowingly so. Temporarily patching over with short game 100 yards and in.

Great in depth explanation of how the swing sequence should be in using ground force to maximize power. I've know about these concepts but have struggled in properly applying them to properly compress the ball in my swing. His (GRF Golf) description and examples of how and why pressure change is properly used in the swing and how to sequence the actions is so easy to understand. Thank you for sharing this!

Marcus videos are a great example of why the coaching philosophy of 'give the body a goal and let it self organise' is flawed. Almost every person in every one of his videos has self organised incorrectly and he has to use a variety of gimmicks, devices, drills and other techniques to 'teach' them correct organisation of the body.

I’m a third of the way through your video and loving it. This is so completely different than what anybody else is talking about, but it is resonating with me because I know that the only time I hit a pure golf shot (which is not that often), is when I actively shift my weight rather than just taking the club back in a static fashion. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the video and then get out and hit some shots utilizing these concepts. Cheers.

Using body joints in linear movement in sequenced manner you transfer the linear into rotational/curved motion of the arms and clubhead is to me the core idea in swinging your club. Basically the same thing in any racket, bat and stick sport alongside with throwing or in shot-put. Transfering the big muscle work off the ground into sports specific motion.
@PetSKi67
@PetSKi67 10 ай бұрын
The fastest clubhead speeds are present, when your rythm allows your muscle action forward start before the hands reach the top pulled by the backward momentum of the take-away. As your forward firing muscles are allready going forward in the sequence, you’ll get that extra speed thru the motion by a phenomena called stretch shortening cycle. Firing against the load moving back stretch your allready countering action and when the momentum (backward moving arms and the club) finally gets overpowered at the end of the motion range you get 10-15 mph more instantly into your chs.

There is this MySwingEvolution-channel, where Cristo Garcia has had his journey into Hogan swing and now changed the name to somethin else. He now preaches of the magic of over the top swing. However his last shorts were about body turning open before and through impact. To me that makes perfect sence, cause, when the rythm is just right you cannot force the impact. There is not enough time to make an impact in the time slot. The proper feel for me is as you’d completely miss the ball before it is automatically struck hard.

What is really interesting to me about this video is that I have had issues, serious issues with my right leg since birth. Suffice to say, I was born with a condition and have had over 30 surgeries and at age 51, I have a knee replacement. My approach to the game of golf has been to hit the ball as straight as possible and not worry at all about distance and that allows me to hit in the 80's and often in the 70's. But I've always been bothered by my lack of distance with all my clubs. I can drive the ball around 240 250 but that's my absolute best shots. My 7 iron can reliably handle a 140-145 yard shot but I sure do wonder whether I could do better by using my lower body better.

I had a lesson with Marcus about a year ago. Very disappointed with it myself. Drove from south wales to Doncaster, stayed overnight in hotel and even though i asked to use the pressure plates a few days before I arrived (and was one of the main reasons I picked Marcus in the first place), I was placed in the little room next to it. No plates used and just a 4hr golf lesson with no feedback. No launch monitor or anything. I’m a statistics guy, love the numbers in golf and expected loads from the session. Especially for the cost. Big shame, but super happy that you managed to get what you needed! Exactly what I was hoping to do. Nevermind, really nice guy though. Looking forward to seeing how this impacts your swing/scoring going forward!

I just tried this today and I didn't really get similar results. Using my "inefficient swing", I carry my 7 iron around 160-170yd. Trying to copy this method, I only got around 140-150yd carry. Now that's not to say this isn't effective, it obviously is if you go through some proper drills and training. It's just that trying to teach it to yourself, wasn't effective for me.

It’s very different from what I was doing and I very quickly defaulted to what I’ve always done. It’s definitely not something that’s quick to pick up. It’ll need plenty of practice

Wow! This has really opened my eyes. Been struggling for distance ever since I started playing. Had the odd games where everything just seemed so effortless and shots going miles, only to return the next day and see my old yardages return. Now, watching and understanding this, I’m really excited to get on the range this winter. This has been the missing link I’ve been looking for.

@@UpDownGolf at least you have an understanding now of why it’s happening pal. I think this is the biggest thing we face as golfers, we cannot identify what it is that’s causing so many inconsistencies. Great content, Luke! Keep up the good work. Been watching your videos for the last 12 months. Great to see how the average golfer fairs during a golfing season. All the best buddy 👍🏻🏌🏻

Luke let me know if this “sticks”. I’ve seen a number of vloggers try “zen” but not end up with fundamental changes to their technique long term. I think the issue is we don’t belt every approach shot and that’s where our bodies revert to what gives us a sense of control.
@Melted_Butter
@Melted_Butter 10 ай бұрын
That’s because the vloggers move on to the next coach then the next coach then the next coach for video content. It’s like anything else, you still need to put in the consistent work to make it stick long term.
@UpDownGolf

Yeah totally agreed Melted Butter. I will be putting in the work over winter to see if I can ingrain this more for next year. You'll see in the vlogs I guess 👍

Dear luke, my experience is we can engrain any movement as long as we are concious of our intent w visualization during each and every swing. Golf is mental, for this very reason. Control of ones mind is the biggest challenge. I can do it Sir! Success always Dr D

Once you start to understand the concept of the sequence of movement, the context begins to make sense. You can’t make any change to your swing without understanding the concept of the movement in the first place. It looks like he picked it up pretty quickly here.
