It is the responsibility of all of us to protect this 70-year-old project. It is very important to study this Galoya project, which has many problems, and to restore it systematically and maintain it actively. Protecting this Gal Oya project, which is an economic and social center of Ampara district, should be united not only by the irrigation department but also by all the institutions of Ampara district. It will also be a responsibility of the Faculty of Engineering of the South Eastern University located in Ampara district. That is, it is very important to give their active contribution to preserve this reservoir and irrigation system, which is a resource for Ampara district. They should include these problems/threats in their research and projects and try to find solutions. Isn't it important that they contribute to this, which is one of the largest engineering projects in this district, which is an agricultural district? I hope that the professors and lecturers will contribute thier active research contribution for this.

Sudath Gamage, How deep are the pile tips below the exposed surface under scoured footings? The way it is shown in the video, even if we have enough axial capacity, the lateral ground resistance that controls deflections seems heavily compromised. In case of a flood, the brigde may experience substantial lateral movement. My point is that unless you are going to manually backfill the scours, the footings may have to be laterally braced to limit movement to levels acceptable to the bridge deck, before the next flood.
