Tetris is the PERFECT name for sewing room design. Now add an 8 ft long arm…I have a path all the way around my long arm. I do have a big cutting table that I can raise and lower like your desk. Depending on what I am creating I can put an additional sewing machine on it. I congratulate you on re-designing your space. Very nice and sunny. The best!❤ Update: Always put casters on every piece you can in your sewing room. We always find it easier to re-arrange to fit our ever changing needs. Once we figure it out for efficiency…we are good. Until the next time. Change is good. Love, love this video.

In order to organize things that have gotten out of hand, I do two things: First, I pretend this is not my stuff and I'm organizing for someone else and badly want their stamp of approval on my organizing skills. Second, I set aside time, but not too much time, and then really go at it without thinking much about anything else...just how to store/keep/organize things in a way that they are most usable and easy to put back when I am finished with them.

I have three questions. How do you keep your thread from being dusty and hurting your machines? I was taught to keep my threads in a closed hutch or drawer. I see more and more makeovers with thread being left out on stands. Very curious if you make covers for them or dust your thread or ... And during the video you had a terrific tripod system that would be ideal for me as I try to make drapes, etc. Those would make wresting with off grain handkerchief linen and .so many other tasks so much easier. I don't see it listed. I have been using a self created pvc pipe system and it is so limited! I would love to use what you have/had.
@PatternScout Жыл бұрын
I haven't had too much of an issue with the thread getting super dusty, but I just wipe them off if they do :) I bought the tripod system on amazon...if you search for "photography backdrop" you can find several options that are similar. Hope that is helpful!

Enjoy watching all of your videos, but these types are videos are the best! You are so real, still kind of a rarity on the net. When I saw that you moved the white shelf next to the window, I kept thinking that it looked like it was supposed to be there from the start. This gives me motivation to start on my own sewing area, which has piles of pre-washed fabric all over the place 🙈 Thanks for sharing as always!

The room looks lovely, it’s a shame that we have to mess them up by dragging out fabrics and bits and bobs that we need to use to make are garments, but ha ho it has to be done. Reorganizing is so satisfying! I love the new mirror, and if I had the space (my sewing room is my guest room as well), that table would be awesome. Maybe one day! I had to go back and check for your old Kenmore to make sure it was still there. It’s always good to have a backup machine, in case the main one needs repair. Those vintage machines are becoming more desirable since they’re so much better made than modern machines. I’d like to see a mini “tour” of it one day 😊
@PatternScout2 жыл бұрын
It really is! Makes me feel like I got a new room! And I really love having that Kenmore around. I wish I could say that I used it more. It is so well-made and still works great! But it's not quite as precise as my Pfaff. One day I really should give it a little tribute here on the channel!

Thanks! I currently have two large paper lanterns above my sewing area with really bright bulbs that provide a ton of light in the space (the lanterns help diffuse the light so it isn't like a spotlight). I need to reposition them now that things are in different spots in the room.

Good idea. I like it bright but no shadows. Are they on a track or individual plugs? I love the IKEA Skädis system. They used to have wire magazine holders that are perfect for pattern envelopes but seem to only have the wire basket now. I had to get a few extra from Amazon sellers.

I'm looking for a cutting table that's not too big. Do you think the Flexitable could work as a cutting table? I already have a sewing table and a desk in my office and don't have space for a larger table. I've been cutting my fabric on the dining room table, but I'm getting back pain from being hunched over it 😢 It also leaves a mess in my dining room for days ...
@PatternScout Жыл бұрын
The flexispot table is super sturdy and it's so nice to be able to raise and lower it to preference. You would need a cutting mat if using a rotary cutter, but I think it would make a great cutting table.

So nice, Casey! Now for the really hard part…keeping it tidy, lol. Where do you store your machines when not in use? I find mine get heavier and heavier as time goes on. 😂. I try not to move them, but since I sew at my kitchen table, it’s inevitable.
@PatternScout2 жыл бұрын
Ain't that the truth! haha :) I am basically forcing myself to keep the tabletops clear...we'll see how it goes. But everything has a place now! I'll but the machines on the floor under the table when I need the table clear (that's what I did when I used my other table for sewing and cutting).
