If you ever want to gain access to a restricted building or room all you have to do is bring a big ladder. Just walk up to security, show them the ladder, ask them to get the door for you, and proceed to your desired destination. It's that easy.

I adore that you have Jenny as a guest. Until you understand the field, you don't fully grasp how easy and widespread this is due to human error via a multiple of factors. Social Engineering is huge and not as understood as we'd like it to be.

It's pretty much the only form of hacking left. Every single data breach in the last 15 years has come down to human error. A weak password or a gullible employee. It's always a human.
@andrewchuckstar5238 Жыл бұрын
Oh she is doing such a good job explaining why we IT people do what we do for security. Unfortunately there will always be those who ignore the security briefings and use Post-its for passwords. But in the end, if you use your company laptop to create stuffy pron with your BF/GF we will find out and will keep copies.

I loved this interview. So interesting how she started and where she ended up. I like that she said she’d never go to the dark side. People hacking is the way forward, it’s near impossible to overcome the technical barriers, unless you can hack and I guess that might make it a bit easier. Thank you for sharing this.

I find it really hard to believe that in a private bank where they are obviously aware of security threats that you can just stick a bandage on and get someone to open a biometric lock. I mean I worked in a bank 25 years ago and if someone could not get into the vault area they would be sat down to wait so someone could verify them another way. Also the one in Asia, you do not do recognisance for 1 night and go on then go on a Friday having not observed on a Saturday. I think she is giving you her greatest hits and omitting the times she fkd up

I was the IT Director for a tech company so you would think our employees would be tech savvy enough to avoid scams, they weren't. People kept opening attachments and making my life hell trying to protect us from hacks, trojans, and social engineering. So, I decided to have a little fun and teach a lesson. I wrote a simple little app and emailed it to the entire company from a made up ISP saying we were giving away six months of free Internet access to tech users so they would tell everyone about our company. To signup open then attached app to install our client. What the app actually did was wait an hour then pop up a window saying something like, "Please do not open attachments from untrusted sources. Contact IT to have this message removed." It would also email me the computer name of anyone who opened the app. The target could simply close the window but it didn't close the app, even if they rebooted because it was now in the startup apps list, it just set a random timer for between four and fifteen minutes and it would pop up again. I caught the CEO and he was pissed. The CTO, my boss, was smart enough not to click on the app and openly laughed at the CEO (his brother) for being so dumb. I was not fired.

The idea of it seems exciting and entertaining. If you are not on the receiving end you will not know how invasive it feels. And so even with permission it's a job that's really not recommended and even she understands. You never know what ppl need to keep hidden. Some ppl are hiding things for good. And she strongly feels that everyone should use their skills for good.
