Your teeth look great! Im from the US and just had a full mouth restoration all crowns and 2 bridges in Mexico last Fall and had a fantastic experience. They had state of the art equipment, much better than any dentist I've seen in the US. And I am a nurse. The doctors were all highly trained in great medical schools around the world. It cost me $12k for everything included my hotel which was upstairs from the clinic. And included shuttles from the airport in AZ. And they did it all in 4 days!!! It was VERY long days but it was the schedule I requested.

Medical tourism can save a lot of money. Dental work beyond a couple of appointments means one has to stay in the country long term, so being free like you makes it possible. I myself had surgery for a hernia in Costa Rica (also good for dental) over a week; cost was less than $4K vs. $12K (at the time) in the US. When I travel overseas I often look for local dental clinics for cleaning and exams. Most recently i was in Panama, and it cost me $40 for cleaning, x-rays, and exam.

To everyone contemplating dental tourism you must understand even in the US dental procedures like root canal treatments or crowns can have complications afterwards. Root canals can fail after 5 years and crowns can fail or needs adjustments after a period of use. Bite opening are especially risky. You must understand that if you develop complications then you need to go overseas and thein lies the cost because your dentist is now in Thailand not down the street near where you live .
@30AndAWakeUp
@30AndAWakeUp 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, definitely need to follow up with dentist as you normally would. It’s no different than if you moved to a different town or state. You definitely need to continue to have your normal appointments where they will check the health of your teeth.
@temprmj1
@temprmj1 4 ай бұрын
Either way you still save a ton on the initial work, like you said it could fail no matter where you get it done, so I don't really see the downside of getting it done overseas for a fraction of the cost.
@donjose6520
@donjose6520 4 ай бұрын
@temprmj1 If you go overseas for dental treatment consider it a crap shoot. If it turns out ok then consider yourself lucky. If not then all that work may need to be replaced. That dentist in Thailand doesn't care much knowing you are not coming back anytime soon . In the US you have recourse .

Wow, this was a really fascinating deep dive into your mouth. But to be clear, this went well beyond merely a cosmetic procedure; they actually changed the structure/mechanics of your teeth. As someone who is just about to embark on my own smile restoration journey, I have so many questions... I had previously scoped out doing my work in Turkey, and every website I visited indicated that it would only take around 10 days to get a new mouthful of "Turkey Teeth," which invariably included crowns. I am shocked that this process actually took 4 to 6 weeks in Thailand. But then again, I think you had a particularly complex situation. I am also scoping out Colombia, which would be a relatively short flight from NYC or MIA/FLL for me, and I know someone who absolutely raves about the work he received in Cartagena. However, I have also heard horror stories about crime in Colombia. Anyway... in terms of the actual crowns, were you given options regarding material (porcelain, zirconium, etc.) and/or manufacturer? Or did they do all of their fabrication locally or in-house? And how did you settle on Thailand? Was it the cheapest option? Was it the best quality option (based on your research)? Did you have any reluctance about shaving down so many of your natural teeth to receive crowns? How long do you expect these crowns to last? Have you stopped eating nuts? As of now, I am leaning towards Colombia to get my work (20 veneers + 4 implants) done, but I am planning on getting it done in only a week (with a follow-up visit in 6 months for the final implants). Do you think this is realistic? Sorry for the run-on comment!
@30AndAWakeUp
@30AndAWakeUp 4 ай бұрын
Yeah, a ton of options. Check out the website in the description, you can see all the options. The brands they use are exactly what they US in the US. I don’t know how they can do all that work in 10 days and ensure your bite is correct. Im glad I had a dentist that insisted I be there to make sure it’s all correct. I definitely dont think a week is long enough to ensure proper fit and bite. I’ve spent a ton of time in Colombia, it’s as safe as any US city to be honest. I settled on Thailand after researching all the different places to go. They combination of price and quality of care led me to clinic I decided to go to.

I appreciate you putting work into your videos and explaining your experiences clearly. Personally, I'm extremely wary of getting so many crowns. While crowns are profitable for dentists, most reputable dentists try to avoid crowns unless necessary. Crowns greatly weaken the stability of your tooth, risk infections, and can require replacements in the long term. Even though I have access to a well-trained cosmetic dentist, I only get a crown if absolutely required. I know people have different aesthetic goals, but for me bright white veneers look too much like dentures.

My grandmother aleays said that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all and its an adage I completely agree with and given you've already had all this work done what I'm about to say next isn't helpful BUT given the number of people in the comments section talking about how "educational" and "informative" this I feel compelled to say something having just watched this with my wife, an Australian dentist. As she said "if I placed 22 crowns on healthy teeth purely for aesthetic improvement I would be stuck off, I would lose my licence to practice dentistry and rightly so" For teeth in your original condition - which was actually good as you said save for some chipping and discolouration, a professional whitening and some composite veneers would have given you a very good aesthetic result while removing very little to no healthy tooth structure. For people with teeth that are very worn down, chipped and damaged then porcelain veneers can be good option. This does involve prepping the teeth by removing some healthy tooth structure but typically its very minimal - 0.5mm max off of the surface and occlusions. The veneers themselves just cover the front part of the tooth and are a thin but very strong shell of porcelain. Crowns, which you have, are VERY different from veneers. They are not for the surface they are for the whole tooth, essentially like a false tooth and to fit them they need to remove a large amount of tooth structure, filling your existing teeth down to pegs essentially. And that's where the problem lies because when you have that little healthy tooth structure left then you are very likely to end up with issues over time that will lead to root canals in the teeth with crowns and ultimately extractions. Im not saying this to be mean or scare people but PLEASE PLEASE understand that crowning all your healthy teeth for aesthetic reasons is not a good Idea. Crowns, whatever your dentist told you will not last a life time either and will need replacing every 10-12 years or so even if you don't experience pain issues from the nerve being compromised with your peg teeth underneath getting decay. So educate yourself, so many young people getting this done and saying they got veneers when they didn't even realise they got crowns. Watch the BBC documentary on KZbin called 'Turkey teeth' which details this whole issue of people getting 20 plus crowns placed abroad. I feel like you'll probably delete my comment but I hope you don't so people can at least understand the issues.
@30AndAWakeUp
@30AndAWakeUp 4 ай бұрын
Im not going to delete. I think it’s important for people to do their research and consider all view points on something like this. But with all do respect. I went to 3 dentist in the US and all of them said I needed major restorative dental work due to how bad the back of my teeth were worn down from my severe overbite and grinding of my teeth over the years. My front teeth were almost paper thin unfortunately and veneers would not have worked. The Dentist I had in Thailand was trained at what is usually ranked the #1 or #2 Dental Universities in the US and in the top 10 in the world. She laid out all my options, the risks and I made a choice. I’ll leave your comment up because I think it’s important for people to see. However, every dentist that actually looked at me disagreed with your wife’s assessment.

@@30AndAWakeUp as a medical doctor that has had significant dental work in multiple countries including thailand i concur with willsmith39 but you made an informed decision. we must not confuse attending a quick course or conference at a so called top university, showing a certificate for same with completing a formal dental residency (usually 1 or more years). just about anyone that pays the course /conference fee is admitted. tons of very competent dentists never attended such courses for clout. i was a patient at the same place you went to but after a reprehensible experience there i never returned. i may post my experience there. congrats on your satisfaction with outcome.

I think Australian dentistry is of pretty high standard. My wife's practice actually deals with a good number of patients who had overly 'agressive' cosmetic dental work in Thailand and have developed serious issues. Yes the price is much cheaper but the point is that Australian dentists aren't placing 22 crowns on healthy teeth for any price if they want to continue to practice. I'm not for a minute saying that all dentists in Thailand or bad or unethical of course I'm not. I actually visited a well regarded hospital in Bangkok in 2014 and two root canals and two crowns placed as well as another composite filing. This was before I met my wife. Anyway 10 years on and I haven't experienced any issues and my wife x rayed my teeth recently again and said the quality of the work, particularly thr root canal work eas of a very good standard. But I NEEDED this work done as I had large existing fillings and these restorations over time had leaked, decay had set in and I had irreversible pulpitis which I'd when you need a root canal and a crown. But doing that to healthy teeth is a big no no. Anyway I sense I'm wasting my breath so maybe I'll just leave it here.

Thankfully surgeons at the ER were able to remove it and the patient seems to have mended. No brain damage reported. You appear happy with the results and it looks awesome.

Not only smile esthetics but also do not forget the function. Increasing the vertical dimension of your jaw need time for the jaw muscle and jaw joint to adapt, and this process should do with temporary glue of the restoration for a period of time that long enough to make sure that the jaw muscle adapt well before the permanent glue. The process of full mouth oral rehabilitation can take months of even year including adaptation with temporary glue. Most important always clean your teeth and floss well and do regular dental check up as tooth decay can occur all around the margin of restorations.

Can you talk more about the initial contact from when you were outside the country? How far in advance did you make the appointments? @@bethm2699 Yeah, I should have talked more about that. So I did my research and landed on that clinic. I sent them an email telling them that I was interested in a full mouth restoration. They asked me if I had any up to date dental x-rays. I did not. So they had me take pics of my teeth. They sent me back and estimate but said that they wouldn’t know 100% for sure until they did a crazy. No deposit needed. I arranged for the hotel myself through hotels dot com. Sooner or later bad Dentistry (Which is suprisingly prevalent) catches up with you. You are simply investing in your dental health. But I would add that intensive orthodontics is not pain free, no matter what you are told. But it’s worth it. Had mine sorted out 18 years ago in Slovenia. Never had an issue. Until last week in Khon Kaen. Biting a fingernail and a front incisor Zircon Crown broke at the gum line. At my friend’s Thai dentist the following morning. Consultation, No infection, no root issues. One extraction later and an immediate implant fitted. 25000Baht. It is healing very nicely and the Zircon Crown and abutment will be another 15000 for the impression’s, lab and fitting. That is incredibly reasonable. For such an obviously competent Dentist.

When I lived in Manila (Makati) I went to a place similar to this one. They charged quite a bit. It ended up being very close to U.S. prices. They had a fancy looking office. Lots of people trying to put forth their sales pitch etc. I ended up just walking away. Your total cost here still sounds like a lot. They like foreign clients. Who they know usually have more money to spend. Hopefully you have some kind of overseas health insurance too.

Holy smokes! looks great & thank you for sharing but wow! I can't say I would have done the same. I have a long history with terrible dentistry and my teeth have always been pretty good (knock on wood). But ever since my long time dentist retired I've had a heck of a time finding a trust worthy dentist. I have been to so many dentist I can't even count and many of which say I need a bunch of work done when it turned out I didn't. I have found that many are just out to make a buck. I let one replace an old amalgam filing with an onlay instead of a crown which has become an issue. Wish I never went down that road. Also when it comes to adjusting your bite that can lead to issues down the road. I hope you don't experience any of those issues such as TMJ (which I have). Crowns don't last forever & taking that much off healthy teeth scares me. I wish you all the very best. To anyone wanting to do the same I recommend you check with multiple dentists before proceeding with great caution. Maybe see a holistic dentist as they are less aggressive with treatments. My one question for you is did they safely remove any and all amalgam from your teeth before placing all those crowns etc? Be well & thank you again for being so open to sharing all this. My implant consult was 50, and xrays are included, but when there have been questions they just do them again and no big deal. I want to say they charge to put them on CD or DVD, but it wasn't much, and they just sent back to my normal dentist. I much prefer this style xrays to the other though, painless.

So I decided to have them redone to all match.) However, just a month ago, some of the veneers were cracking😢. So I had to have crowns put on them all. (I only had to have 6 done though. So it was done in two visits. Temporaries, then a week later the crowns. Unfortunately, I recently had to get a root canal “redone” on the canine due to an infection. I was sent to an Endodontics. I have two crowns on my upper that were placed in the US many years ago. They are over 20 years old and still in good condition, with no issues. If done correct, they last a very long time. I would think that front teeth will need to be replaced in 10 or 15 years.

Are they feeling more natural now that you have had them awhile?

Yeah, for sure. But I will say…they are different than your real teeth. The veneers feel the same but the crowns definitely feel different. Not a bad different, just different.
