I just bought one of these fs80r trimmers too on offerup for $50. It's from 1999 and looks/ runs like new. It was missing the orange plastic engine cover so I bought a new one on ebay along with a new speed feed 450 head for $35 for both parts. Now I have $85 into it and it was worth every red cent. Very nice powerful unit and with the speedfeed 450 head I can run 105 line and I never have to remove the head cap to add new line, fully loaded spool of line in under a minute..

Yeah I bought a rebuild kit for my head and it worked for a few weeks until the head fully broke. Now I will get a speed feed head and put it on there

@@topfin8441 Yeah get the speedfeed 450 head, holds more line than the 400. Here's the one I bought, it comes with the adapter nuts to install it on all trimmers including stihl. www.ebay.com/itm/Trimmer-Head-78890-21001-For-Speed-Feed-450-STIHL-ECHO-Husqvarna/323742641799?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

I was given one free 2 and a half years ago with a stihl BR340 backpack blower and HS45 Hedgtrimmer along with a truck load of other stuff. Anyway, it was the best trimmer I ever used, however one day I used it with a cultivator attachment, while doing so, some how the plastic casing inside the pole/pipe got all twisted and wrapped up, that taxed the engine too much and overheated and burned out the motor. I found out that is what had occurred today when I went to put that pole onto an FS80 power head snd it would not rev up, it wouldn't the casing in the pole was all wrapped and twisted up. So instead I had to take the line head, guard and regular handle and swap it over to the FS80 pole. The FS80 is the same machine, except set up with the bike handles and brush guard for the metal blade adapter. I picked up that really nice FS80 for $80 bucks last week to finally replace my FS80R, becauseI vowed when I got the chance I would. So now my FS80R lives on and I have the bike handle, brush guard and a spare head with a metal blade all ready to go for it, if I ever need to cut thick stuff. Tye only difference between the FS80 and 80R pole is the metal shaft that goes thru the pile on the FS80 is more flexible than the one inside the FS80R, the one that was in the FS80R was solid. Both can take a lkne trimmer or metal blade or other attachment's. I'll never use a cultivator on one of these again, it clearly worked it too hard causing that casing inside to get all wrapped and twisted out of conformity. Otherwise awesome trimmers.

@@topfin8441 Your right, I found a history page on someone who discussed it after he purchased one. 👍
