Never heard of this brand but I’ve seen some for sale recently, interesting bracing! The long third slide looks Bach ish I’ve been tossing between the Clarke I showed you, an old ish 4C and a marcinkiewicz 4 or 7 on bass trumpet depending on how I feel that day. I usually double on it in big band to blow instead of playing on bass trombone, but I want to get better at improvising on bass trombone and not using the bass trumpet as a crutch.. We should play some bass trumpet duets! I think there’s a bebop etude book my teacher showed me, when I order it I’ll scan some PDFs for us

I have a 4C as well, maybe I just need better chops but it seems to be a bit big at the moment... time will tell. Some Bach-ish elements to it, but they seemed to actually have designed their own horn surprisingly enough

The Lidl company (Czech Republic) still exists, though as part of Arnold Stölzel GmbH (Germany). The reason they did not have a good reputation was that pre-1990 (communist) production was very inconsistent: You could try 10 identical instruments. 5 would be worthless, 4 would be servicable to good, 1 might be outstanding. They are widely used in Czech/Slovak brass and wind bands as well as a cheper alternative to Austrian and German flugels, baritones and euphoniums. These bass trumpets are not used for melody but for accompanying flugels, baritones and clarinets in a small dance/marching band. They are usually played with mellophone-ish mouthpieces, not trombone ones.

Interesting video, thanks. I always wanted a bass trumpet when I played trumpet and flugel. Here in Bfitain we had a marvelous trombonist who doubled on bass trumpet called Ken Wray (1926-1977), who, though influenced by Cy Touff who worked in the Woody Herman Band in the 1950s, had a style of his own. It makes a great sound.

The little you played of it the sound kind of reminds me of a Conn 2H. Which, BTW, also have the right taper but is just a tad smaller receiver than a small shank trombone MP. Also not keen on being pushed either. Neat. I also play a DE mouthpieces. It's a wonderful system. Which reminds me, I have a bunch of shanks and a couple of rims I need to pass on to people who will use them.

Yes, it's a very small sound... Very trumpet-like, go figure! None of my DE pieces are really a good match. At the moment I use a Bach 11C.

I played a King Flugabone in high school. Not quite a bass trumpet, but it was fun for a while.

The opening with the trumpet playing was so cool! 🤩

Thank you for NOT playing more than those few notes at the beginning. The story of these instruments is always better than their sound.

What would the sheet music look like for this instrument?
@AidanRitchie2 жыл бұрын
It's typically Bb treble 8va, like euphonium. But in the orchestral realm that is not a standard, it can be many many things.

Can you put a link in the description on where to buy it?

Well, there aren't any of these. I got very lucky to find one

So do you use a trombone mouthpiece??? I am thinking of getting one.

Yes.

I started with a regular trumpet back in the mid-60s. I migrated to baritone horn using the same mouthpiece as a tenor trombone. Years ago I fell in love with the BT. I have a collection of BTs incl the Liedl. I use the same small mouthpiece for all the BT as I do for my tenor trombones, marching baritone horns, marching trombones and valve trombones. My fav, of course is the BT. You can use the same sheet music as a regular Bb trumpet. You are playing an octave below. Check out Willie Colon who used bass trumpet circa 1978.

@@mikesosa1146 Thank you for your reply, what are the good brands for a BT?
@mikesosa11462 жыл бұрын
@@lpcruz5661 Hi. Depends. If you are at a high level of music knowledge (not like me. I am low level). You I would recommend a Kanstul or Getzen. However, both are out of business. I just checked and Reverb (an ebay but just for musical instruments) has a Getzen for 2K. Willie Colon used the Getzen 994. If you are an amateur, like me, I would go with Wessex or Schiller or O'Malley. O'Malley would be my first choice (1K). Wessex would be my second choice ($700 approx). The Schiller is on ebay for 500 approximately (good for starters). Of course if you want to pay 4K-5K you can purchase the Bach Stradivarius for 5K in WWBW. Professionals have told me that the Bach is overpriced. Let me know if this info helps. Good luck. Mike. P.S. Which I could tell you more about the sound but I am an amateur. Check out the Getzen 994 on Reverb. I just checked and Reverb also has the Schiller. New and good price for a beginner. The Getzen is a classic. It is American made (as is the Kanstul). Both Kanstul and Getzen went out of business. Another FYI, if you buy Chinese made products directly, not good. But if you buy Chinese made products but they are sold by American or European companies (e.g. Wessex) then the instrument is good. The American or European companies provide the specs and manage quality control, see Wessex or Mach Brass.

Dear @@mikesosa1146. Thank you so much for these info, they are absolute gold information. I know Schiller but the rest is new info which I appreciate. I will check out those brands. I am an absolute amateur. 20 years ago, I picked up the trumpet but I had to drop it due to a decision to do doctoral work. I am now semi-retired and I picked it up again 2021. I have a flugabone and a trumpet now from US sellers but made in China. Depending on the mouthpiece I use, my tone sounds like coming out of a tin can. 😄

@SuperJxl2 жыл бұрын
why is it called a bass trumpet when its a tenor instrument?
@AidanRitchie2 жыл бұрын
Because it's the bass instrument of the trumpet family, which is a soprano instrument.
