You make so many good points about plant people and fear mongering 🙌🙌 It’s something I wish more people would speak out about because there are way too many people stressing out about things that are overall, not a big deal 🤷‍♀️ I feel like people decide this hobby isn’t for them because of it 😢 It’s a bummer because growing plants can be such a rewarding 💚

I have my Philodendron Joepi under a very bright Barrina grow light. The internodal spacing is tight, but my petiols are still over a foot long. I've had to use greening pins to pin them to the moss pole to contain her. Otherwise, she’d have over a 3’ spread and I just don't have room for that. It's not a traditional solution, but it's working for me. 😊

I heartedly agree about throwing them away or trimming away what you don’t want any more, I’m all for that. I throwing away lots of strings of things when I trim them. They are on the floor so they get trimmed

I recently got the Elaphoglossum lanceolatum too! I'm so stoked to grow it :) And when I saw your Thai monster I just laughed. It's so beautiful, no one would be able to say no :))) We know it'll do great with you!

I have experience with meshplugs too. Something the substrate growers use is so compactec it holds way to much moisture around the base of the plant which can cause rot. The rest ofthe roots are fine but I myself gently remove as much of the plug as possible with a chopstick with good results

I have gotten so many varieties of Alocasia in the past couple of months also! I love all of your new plants! So cute 🥰 I’ve added 9 varieties to my collection since august (multiples of variegated Frydek though)… it’s becoming an issue because I’m running out of space 😂 -Nycteris (batwing)(starter plant) -Bisma (starter plant)(not sure if it’s the same as the Bisma Silver) -Reginae (starter plant) -Infernalis (starter plant) -Silver Dragon (starter plant) -Amazonica (starter plant) -Antoro Velvet (starter plant) -Pink Princess (starter plant)(didn’t know there was alo, only ever saw the philo.p.p) -Jacklyn (juvenile plant, a little bigger than starter size) -Dragon Scale (juvenile plant, bigger than a starter) -Cuprea (small plant, I already had one but I got an even nicer but smaller plant in a mystery box) I have a thrip issue right now for the first time ever, and I’m slightly worried about spider mites now too because of all the Alocasia’s I’ve recently added 😅 I guess it’s a good thing that I have beneficial mites shipping to me this week lol I think they’re shipping from Ontario to NS, so hoping they make it here safely 🤞🏻

A tip If you're struggling with converting a plant with an already established root system from soil to a soilless medium with semi hydro. It's called "the long method" I learned from thelecaqueen here on KZbin. She goes through all the steps on how to do it in her videos. Since doing this I've had no issues converting plants, no leaf loss or anything. I've mostly done it with alocasia but she uses other plants aswell.

My P joepii has shorter petioles then what I normally see. I blast it with a ton of light and it has helped shorten them a ton, it is much more manageable now.

Sorry you are struggling with pest. They really can damage your mental health so I really can sympathise. I battled for years whilst I was importing and bringing new plants in. I’ve found a treatment that’s really worked and I’ve only treated twice this year due to spotting small numbers on a individual plant. It’s absolutely saved my relationship with my plants. I don’t come home from work every week dreading what outbreaks I have and what plant has been damaged.really hope you find something that works for you ❤

@@JJ-ec9lpI am using killer mite. It’s awfully strong and expensive and not available in most countries i believe which is why I didn’t name it originally. The best planty purchase I’ve ever made. I’ve given some to friends and they also agree it eradicates spider mites as well as other pests.

Back when you started talking about TPS Billions, I bought that along with the Silica and the N-Primer, so I've been using them for quite some time. I've not had any issues with the Silica turning my Anthurium (Queen Anthurium, Clarinervium, Vittariifolium, Crystalinum, and Andraeanum) yellow on the edges. I've been using the full dose with reverse osmosis water, calmag, and foliage pro 9-3-6 (into the jug in that order) on all of my houseplants (140+) except my Orchids and African Violets. I manually adjust the pH. Could RO water or adjusting the pH be the main differences?

I have a friend who’s been a botanist (professionally, educated etc) for 15 years and she is very much against using pon for tropical plants. According to her, pon doesn’t provide the plant with the environment needed to develop an immune system. I’m mentioning this because you do seem to have pests quite often and for long periods of time, and maybe pon could be causing some issues? And I’m not shaming you AT ALL, pests happen and it’s a part of the hobby ☺️
@beccandriani
@beccandriani Жыл бұрын
I used to think the same because I also have a botanist friend who told me that still, the best substrate is soil. But thennnn, I came across The Leafy Diva and The Leca Queen channel! Their plants are thriving and though they do still get pests, I think it's minimal I mean still normal, not worse compared to other plant vloggers who use soil as their substrate. They actually change my perspective and now I'm currently using pon for some of my plants. I personally find it easier to take care and so far I haven't dealt with mold and root rot 😊

@@ronjakhinteresting! I use only soil except for my alocasia which are in fluval stratum and get pests on everything 🫠 I’m in the camp of, plants aren’t meant to be grown indoors so they will kind of always have issues of some sort, that being said we still all try our best and make things work!

I side swiped a parked car in my apartment parking lot in a rental car 😢 it was a lot bigger than my own car and I wasn't used to it. I was a good person and left my info. This lady was super impatient about getting a check from me after the damage appraisal, I paid out of pocket to avoid the raised premiums, and then she never fixed the damage on her car the entire year I continued to live there. Now im of the, " im just gonna drive away like it never happened" camp because people suck
sooooo i got a bunch of new plants and i can't deal 🫠 (PART 1 of 2)
