Gabriel, I've had cats for 50 years (currently have 5), can't imagine my life without them. Two cats are easier than just one because they entertain each other. Take extreme caution with the nail clippers. You can see the quick if her nails are white, but the black ones are hard to see. Regarding names.....Petunia.

CAT MOM ADVICE: I would NOT recommend IAMS. Cats are carnivores since they are an evolutionary predator, so the main nutrient in a cats diet is protein. Cats actually do not require ANY carbs in their diets, and can survive completely without vegetables too. However if you don't want to feed your cat a whole salmon everyday and let it pick at the guts lol, Stick to low-carb, grain-free kibble. However, ideally, you can forego feeding your cat any kibble at all, and stick to only wet food (3-4 small cans a day depending on age, weight, if trying to gain or lose weight.) Cats often develop urinary problems later in life (very common, look it up!) because they are not instinctual drinkers. So feeding your cat wet food can seriously amplify the amount of water in your kitties system which is super helpful. I even add an extra tablespoon of slightly warm water from the faucet to their food with every meal. Just keeps their systems in optimal condish ! I do keep kibble around for my cats, because sometimes their digestive systems appreciate the extra "clearing out," so to speak, that comes from the added fiber they put in most dry kibbles. So once a week or so I'll give them a meal of dry food. Kittens are easy to train to meals instead of free feeding kibble. Plus it will increase your bond as she learns that you are the primary caretaker for her. RECOMMENDED BRANDS (found at petsmart) Nulo - for dry kibble - grain-free, low-carb, super high in protein. Tiki Cat - for wet canned food - grain-free, CARB-free, super high protein, no potatoes or filler veggies. Just protein vitamins & minerals SUPPLEMENTS & TREATS Nulo - 2 ingredient mixed protein pouches. My cats LOVE these - perfect pates. They come in lil sticks. I can either hold these up to my cats and feed them by hand, or mix them in with freeze dried meat as an extra treat. Simply Nourish - freeze dried meats. Salmon, Chicken, Whitefish. I add some warm water, and squish them with a fork. sometimes i'll add those pates and the cats love them. Tiki Cat - they have pate sticks too. grain free of course. Instinct - freeze dried supplements. Skin & hair health. My cats are shiny soft silk blankets because of this stuff. i crumble it in or over top their food and they love it. I can get them to eat anything with this stuff.

I agree fully with the need for wet food and why, them not being big on drinking. I would say, personally, that kibble or some sort of solid food is needed for the health of their teeth. I like, for wet foods, ones with few ingredients and high moisture content - I use applaws and my cat dislikes chicken but likes seafood...so my room winds up smelling like a fish market but it's worth it. I also agree that they don't need anything in the way of veggies and such...they are carnivores and it's why I go with a limited ingredient wet food...so it lacks the things she doesn't need. I've also heard, from several people, about cats not liking still water and preferring fresh cool water. But I've also heard the material of the bowls is a thing as well...as they don't like the smell of plastics, in some cases, and other things can cause what I've heard called kitty acne. I think I heard metal bowls are good....or ceramic I think I heard as well. Also, I would say cats like height...so as she gets bigger she would likely enjoy taller cat towers. Mine, the one in my bedroom, is almost to my ceiling - she loves it.

Personally, I kind of agree, there are both positives and negatives for both wet and dry food. Only wet food will lead to tartar and plague building up, as there is nothing hard to chew on. My vet told me to feed them bones to chew on, if its wet food only, which is what they do in the wild, cleaning their teeth by chewing/eating the bones of mice and birds. My cats have lived over 14 years on mostly dry food only, I just made sure to buy high quality food, grain free, no sugar and a high meat content.

Blue Buffalo is garbage, especially any grain free kind of food. There's a study correlating heart disease and death to these grain free diets, especially in dogs. Talk with your veterinarian for what they would recommend to feed.

purplechickon hi there, I study veterinary medicine & I’m not an expert but what you said about grain free dog food being bad for them is true. However dogs and cats need very different diets. Dogs have been domesticated for a long time and have been given food scraps from the table forever, so their digestive systems are adapted to basically a human diet, hence why they tend to be healthier when their food includes grains and veggies. Cats, however, are still very much carnivores and their bodies can’t really process most plants so they deal better with foods that are basically just meat & fish. Of course you still have to make sure they get all their nutrients, but from what I’ve learned it’s definitely less risky to feed cats a grain-free diet than dogs. However, you should ALWAYS talk to your trusted vet about what they think is best for your pet as they know your animal and it’s nutritional needs best. ☺️

Hey Gabriel, Your food and your water should be separated. They drink more when you do that that is better for them in the long run. Kitties are known for kidney problems. So that's important! And water you can put more than one dish of water in your house. Cats love boxes so you can give her her own box with a blanket. Two litterboxes ofcourse but you already said that. I don't know anything about food in America. But it's important that it has no grains and sugars. The meat percentage should be high. And you could try a toy with catnip or her favoriete toy she likes and put it in catnip for a day and give it later. I think she is gonna be outside ? You can give her some catgrass. They will help her with the furballs coming out easier. I hope you have something with all the advice sorry if it's not readable.. I tried tho.😅

A few tips! I would get a taller cat tree, next to the couch, and encourage her to use that instead of couch. Spraying it with catnip helps. Adding a few cheap scratch pads in different spots of the house as well. Keep in mind some cats like to scratch with the pad laying flat, some like vertical, and some prefer straight up and down. Also, saw you had a few plants (not sure which were real.) It won't be long before she tries to jump on the counter and get into those. Just research them before then to make sure they aren't poisonous. 😊 P. S. She may bring down those drapes. Have fun! 😁 😅

Cats do better on wet food, the dry food is usually available in a bowl in case your not around. I usually do one sachel in the morning and night, one small serve of dry all day. Probably half that for a kitten, lots of exercise from playing too.

Biggest thing is train her to let you clip her nails immediately! If you wait they will never let you when they’re older. 💕 (best time to clip nails is when they’re asleep!!) Also don’t spend a lot of money on expensive cat toys, they’ll like the box or bag it came in better! 😂 my cat is obsessed with paper bags, so anything crinkly will work!

Congrats, Gabe! She's a cutie and I absolutely enjoyed this. Cats are prone to kidney disease due to not have a high thirst drive. They're meant to consume a moisture rich, raw & unprocessed diet. Kibble is processed in high heat; this extrusion process is carcinogenic. You should avoid poorly made wet food filled with rice, potatoes, wheat, gluten, & soy as obligate carnivores will suffer from a whole host of inflammatory issues. Use digestive enzymes to make sure she absorbs maximum nutrients. Her litter shouldn't be riddled in chemicals; they absorb everything through their paw pads and into the bloodstream. You can use pine pellets or I use Okocat which is free of chemicals. I'm very passionate about feline health since very few people are and I volunteer at a cat sanctuary/hospice so I see a lot of common ailments kitties have overtime when they don't have proper care. Getting her a companion would also be good for her exercise and emotional health. You may not always have time to play with her (hunting instinct) so having a friend will be good for her. Lastly, don't over vaccinate your cat. Just get the basics and titer test to be sure she still had antibodies. I've seen cats bleed through their eyes from autoimmune diseases from excessive vaccinations. Finally, get bloodwork & dental cleanings done yearly. Again, I'm so happy for you. Cats are such wonderful creatures. So many people dislike cats which is a reason to celebrate wonderful people like you who open their homes and hearts to them.❤

I actually agree with the vet brand food. Great job that Joey gave you some of the food to transition! I lived with a vet for 6 yrs and we had our cats on the Hills brand food. Yes, vets promote the food, but it is a great food option. I still give my girl the Hills brand food and she is the healthiest^^. I do not recommend fancy feast or any of the grocery store brand cat foods wet/dry. I do recommend asking your vet what they would suggest, that isn't the Hills brand, if you don't want that. They will tell you what to look for in the food, as cats are strict carnivores, their dietary needs are different than dogs. Also, be careful with seafood flavor foods, as it can make their number twos stinky. Definitely spay before her first heat cycle, % of mamory tumors increase by a lot after the first heat. You do not want that. Also, yes to all the snuggles and affection for the baby!

These are my tips as a cat owner and how I take care of my cats. Make sure to have a scratching post, a cat tree, feed mixture of wet and dry food, add some water with the food (I am crazy about making sure my cats are hydrated). The water fountain is a keeper. When clipping nails wrap cat in a blanket as a burrito. They also have nail covers which come in many different colors which you can put on your cat’s nails. Catnip cat toys are also a must. Keep water bowl and food separate.

To clip nails, it works to wrap them tightly in a towel and only take out one paw at a time. Also if you’re up for it, two kittens will entertain each other at 4 am instead of waking u up! Also a good idea it a tall cat tree in front of a window because they love love love to look at everything outside and lay in the sun

When my cat was a kitten I got him use to me touching his paws while he slept. Now I clip his nails while he sleeps. 🤣 I also started bathing him around that time too so he’s use to playing in the tub. Speaking of playing, you need more toys out for her to play with and entertain herself. Then rotate the toys so she doesn’t get bored. If she gets bored, she will destroy your place. Order a chom chom for the sofa to remove the fur. Also a furminator brush to keep her shedding down. Lastly, check all your live plants and make sure they are not toxic for her incase she eats them. Also eventually use a liner in her litter box or cut up a garbage bag so you’re not scrubbing dried pee clumps stuck to the box. 🥴 Congrats on the nameless kitty. 😻

I have two cats and I have learned a lot as a first time cat owner in the past year and a half than I ever expected. Here's some cat advice/fun facts I learned that should help you understand your girlie a bit more. Some people say that cats are nocturnal, but that's actually incorrect. Cats are crepuscular animals which means they are most active during the twilight hours (dawn and dusk). That's why she's most active at like 4am. This will most likely be a recurring thing, but what can help get her sleeping schedule on yours is if you feed her about an hour before bedtime and then play with her until she gets tired. Cats are very scent-orientated animals, so make sure to get her something she can lay on. You could get a cat bed, but in my experience cats sleep wherever they want, when they want. So if she ends up laying on one of the blankets you already have in the house you can let her keep it as her own or buy another one made of the same material. For the scratching issues, I suggest getting multiple cat scratchers to put around your house. It seems she likes to scratch upwards on things, so a vertical scratching post would be best. Put the scratching posts in places that she frequently scratches on, (like your couch) and try to get a scratcher that has the same or similar texture as what your couch is made out of. Once you've bought them, put some catnip on it to get her to rub on it and then when she touches it she'll realize that she likes how it feels on her paws and will start using that instead of destroying your furniture. Try clipping her nails when she's napping or right after you've played with her and worn her out a bit. Give her the treat afterwards. Consider getting a larger cat tree to put right next to a window so that she can watch the birds and other animals that show up around your yard (aka cat TV). As a kitten right now she has a lot of energy obviously, but she would still really love looking out the window and as she gets older and mellows out it will give her something to do when you can't play with her. Also, be very careful about what plants/flowers you have in the house. There's a long list of plants that are toxic to cats, but the most common ones that come to mind are lillies, daisies, and poinsettia (red christmas flower), and ivy. Just google it and there'll be a comprehensive list. Lastly, chewy.com is a lifesaver and one of the best places to get stuff for her since they are really affordable and deliver everything to your door; especially right now with the quarantine. I know thats a lot of info but I hope this helps you.

Hey there! Congrats on the kitty! This is the first video of yours that I have seen, and I LOVED it! For some silly reason, when you said that you haven't decided on a name yet, I thought of "Evita". Also, when I clipped my cat, Cleo's, claws, I started pretty much as soon as I got her. At the time, I didn't have pet clippers, so I used nail clippers that people use on babies. I found it easier to control where she was getting clipped. I would hold her like a baby and I'd be able to hold her more securely that way. Another tip, do it every week on the same day so that it would become a part of her routine. At the most, it would only take ten minutes. Good luck, and have fun!

A little advice: make sure she has more than one water bowl. We have like three drinking bowls all over the house for our kitten. Our kitten likes to drink from a fountain but also just from bowls. Also don't give her a lot of treats in the beginning. Some cats have sensitive stomach and will get diarrhea from it. Also don't let her play with your hands, she will see them as a toy :). My top tip for kittens: (coming from someone who owns two cats and has rescued and rehomed three others!) 1. Just because your cat is still a kitten doesn’t mean they can’t get into things that are high up/they still need lots of places to jump and run and play. One of my kittens (at 12 weeks) jumped straight from my kitchen counter to the top of my kitchen cabinets (basically from waist height to ceiling height) he didn’t make it up onto the cabinets but hung for a bit and almost did. Having a small cat bed/tower like you put down is great, but your kitten is already ready to run, jump and plan like an adult. A bigger tower with more places to jump would be very beneficial for her exercise. Also look up how to make a “cat Highway” it can be made with cheap shelves and works wonders for your cat’s exercise, helps your cat feel safe when transitioning as well as whenever you have visitors, vacuum, other strange things that might be scary to a small kitten. 2. Dry kibble isn’t the best for cats. Take the time to switch to wet food while you still can without frustrating her. Cats are not instinctual drinkers so having wet food (and even adding a little bit of extra water to wet food) can help your kitten’s health SO SO much. It will help keep her hydrated and healthy. Also, don’t just anyone’s opinions on brands of food. Different owners have different opinions/things they want to focus on with their kittens. Do your own research. 3. The more scratching posts the better. So many people will come to me and say “my cat keeps scratching my furniture!” And when asked if they have a scratching post they’ll say “of course! I have this tiny one in my living room because I didn’t want it to take up too much room” and I immediately want to scream. Cats need to scratch. The more scratching posts you offer the less likely they are to take that out on your furniture. Also, if your kitten is already scratching furniture, try putting double sided duct tape on your furniture for a week. It’s annoying for you, but cats hate that feeling and it will 9 times out of 10 completely stop scratching. This also works if your kitten scratches at certain parts of walls, doors, etc. 4. Start getting her used to grooming and traveling now. She’s so young this is the time that you want to start. Look up how to properly introduce new grooming tools with treats. Take her to visit family if possible. Move her to different rooms. Introduce her to a cat harness and leash with treats and take her on walks. Let her meet other animals of all kinds. The more you introduce her to as a kitten the more calm and chill she’ll be as an adult. 5. Cats have a very distinguishable routine. Play. Eat. Sleep. If you kitten is being a handful, play play play. More than you think she needs. Kittens will have energy spurts. So play until she’s tired, wait a few minutes, play again, etc until finally she loses interest after many spurts. Taking your cat on walks is AMAZING exercise. So many people pass it up because “it’s a cat. It doesn’t need walks” I promise you, taking your cat on a walk is one of the best exercises for your cat possible. You can also teach your cat tricks, like a dog. My cat knows how to heel, sit, Shake, stand on his hind legs and how to stay. After intensive exercise, immediately feed your cat. (This is best if you can play first thing in the morning and right before dinner) Of course she’ll play with her toys during the day too, but the more effort you put in, the better she’ll be. Especially at 4am when you’re trying to sleep. 6. Get her spayed as soon as possible. Spaying before her first cycle can help prevent certain health issues. (Cancer, cysts, etc) Kittens can be a handful but if you know what you’re doing it’s so much easier

I think it's good to train clipping and grooming when they are young, they will get used to it when they get older. I think the best to do it is when they are calm or half-sleeping, doing it fast ... grabbing a paw and clip clip clip !! hahaha my cat used to purr when I was doing it. clipping the tip of the nails will prevent her to get stuck in your clothing or fabric.

Very cheap cat food that is super healthy is the brand authority for wet or dry food , some cats dont eat only dry food so try dry food and putting water in it a little or mixing wet with dry food if the cat hesitates on eat only dry food good luck on your baby ❤️

I always cut my kitties nails when she’s just falling asleep. I suggest to always have the clippers in reach (when you know it’s time to cut her nails) and when the time is right it will be fairly easy:)
