I feel ya, man. I've considered going back to W2 world several times. But every time I do the gig work rebounds and the money is too good to walk away from. With 10 years of IT experience I could easily get a stable job, but I know it would be boring cubicle life surrounded by annoying people. I'll only go back to that if the gig apps completely dry up around here.

I think the times are for half and half, part time w2 or 3/4 time for w2 and complementing with gig work and enjoying the freedom around. I had to sacrifice my freedom for a 9-5 job, but the peace of mind that I have now moneywise is worth it. On the other hand my W2 is quiet, no stressing coworkers, very quiet office, some coffee, youtube music and let the day go by.

I did this 6 months ago...i used indeed app to alert me nearby jobs..and it would send me like 5 jobs daily...within 5 miles of my house...and i got one that pays $17.50 per hr ($700 a week) only 10 minutes drive....light assembly work ..i chose 3rd shift so i can sleep after work and do doordash and ubereats lunch and dinner...from my house..and weekends I'm off so i do those apps from my house. it doesn't feel like i have a W2 job just the finance is secured and more .best of both worlds

Gig economy is always best used as extra income not a full time gig. Too variable in pay and zero benefits and tons of expenses.

I got a full time job back at my school as a preschool teacher. Even though I do at times miss the flexibility of working the gig economy. Raising two teenage boys, one on the spectrum as a single mom, I need consistent income. I still do deliveries, but very part time.

I'm staying in the gig economy because I usually end up getting fired whenever I work at a 9-5 job (the last time was for selling cancer insurance on my regular IT job. I claimed that it was just casual PT gig, but I left a bunch of incriminating evidence on the company printer...

Moving has been extremely busy lately but also at the same time comes a huge influx of cheap customers not willing to pay the price. I’m not moving an entire bed with adjustable base (heavy af) from one location to another for well under $50. Dolly is charging the customer $103!!! Wtf!!!! That is slavery. So that means they only want to pay $22 in the app to me!!!

@@Gignation Yeah dude they’re ruining the moving industry now with those cheap prices. I’d charge at least double and idc if it’s just 10 miles apart. We at least deserve $100 for each person.

I’m thinking about getting a part time job and doing food delivery part time instead of full time. I am still killing it where I am, but idk how long that will last with the recession. I think having a part time job will supplement any potential slow down in business.

This is the way I see it. You pay social security every year. And your hoping you get to to use that benefit. So your number 1 priority should be on a healthy diet and exercise. It doesn't matter how much you make if your health stinks.

W2 makes sense if there's a realistic promotion track, gig work is better if not. Owning your business is still the ideal scenario compared to both if you can transition it to passive income over time.

I am currently making about $1300-$1500 a week full time (35-40hrs) doing food delivery. The problem I have with it is that I work 7 days a week to get those 40 hours, gas prices are killing my profits, and I feel like no matter how hard I work there is no possibility to ever grow my business or profits. If I make $65K this year then I will have to do the exact same thing or work harder next year to make the same amount. There is no upward trajectory and no time to advance my skills if I work full time. There is no paid time off for health/personal/vacation/weather. If I'm not working I'm not earning anything. And if I'm working I'm not advancing my earning potential. Gig work is the least passive of all incomes, if you're not active you're not earning.
