Is it easy to connect your library (libby) to kindle?
@dareisayit
@dareisayit Жыл бұрын
@@Sama-yd4cl As far as checking the books out directly from your a any Kindle other than the Fire, no. But if you have a phone or tablet with the app, yes. All you have to do is set your preferences to Kindle. When you go to your shelf after checking out a book there should be a ‘read with Kindle’. Some books will not have this option though, to check if you scroll all the way down to the book info it says ‘read with…’ and it should say Kindle. (Tip: some publishers will stall the Kindle release for libraries for new releases for a couple days. If you wait and do nothing, eventually the Kindle option will show up. But if you click on the book and read it with your Libby app that format is stuck for all of the check out and even if the Kindle format becomes available you can’t switch)

Just advice for those like me cannot find energy to read when working full time/uni: I've switched to audiobooks. It's not the same, but it's nice too. Takes less energy and you can multitask: clean & listen, cook & listen, go on a walk & listen. It's great 😊 and got me back into the 'book world'.

YES! 100000% agree. I haven’t read a physical book in a while but I have gone through 5 audiobooks this week alone. So nice to be able to listen during free time, walking to class, and on my commutes between home/work/school. A HUGE lifesaver. I felt a little guilty for a while about never “actually reading” but ultimately it’s either listen to books or not consume any books. I’d much rather listen :)

One day I was digging through some boxes and found a kindle from about 10 years ago. I said to myself, "hm, wonder if it'll charge" plugged it in, worked perfectly. Then i said, "hm, i kinda wanna read Gillian Flynn's sharp objects" and so i bought it and read it on my kindle and finished a book for the first time in YEARS. This was in january- I have gone from 0 books in 10 years to 30 books in the last 3 months alone. :) I swear by kindle. It really makes it easier and more accessible in your day to day, less to carry, less to remember, no dealing with physical pages etc. Amazing.

It's funny you talked about struggling to read as a uni student and your new kindle in the same video because I also got myself one recently and it has helped me get back into reading so much! I think the main point is it's easy to pick up, light so you can read pretty much anywhere you want and it takes away the effort of opening a physical book. Reading books on paper is such a pleasure but when you're overwhelmed with everything, it really helps to have reading being made easy. And you can also read in the dark without a book light or the very bright light of your phone. I swear I'm not paid to say this, getting an e-reader was just revolutionary for me.

I grew up in San Diego! The digital library there is crazy, and I do the same thing w/ Libby. I'd venture to say I've read 10s of thousands of dollars worth of books from there (if you include audio books). For example: all of the Wheel of Time audiobooks! They each cost about $40USD. There's 15(ish) of them, so that alone is $600. I've read most of One Piece through Libby. There are over 100 volumes, each about $10 USD. So $1000 in manga for FREE

I tried a few times to listen audiobooks when I cook or do a puzzle or cleaning or riding a bus.... but i find it too hard to concentrate on the words. I miss like maybe a 30 % or the book while i listen. Especially if it is fa fantasy book. I fell it way harder to concentrate on words when it is fantasy and imaginative world, with contemporary books it is a bit easier but still hard.

Y'know, something I've learned as a Graphic Designer who creates on a regular basis is that you're not a robot, no matter how much you want to be. You're going to try to be consistent and produce the same amount of effort and quality over and over again. Which is great to do, but sometimes you're going to have bad days and reading is no different. Don't beat yourself up if things don't work out. I like watching you because you're honest and will happily watch a short book wrap-up that month if that's what it comes down to!

Congrats on the kindle! I have a paperwhite kindle as well and it has definitely helped me continue reading. I have pretty bad light sensitivity so reading physical books lately have been difficult due to the amount of light required to read comfortably and reading on the iPad for hours makes my eyes hurt but the paperwhite kindle has been so nice for my eyes and I’m able to read so much more. I especially enjoy that I can send all kinds of stuff to my kindle to read on it like a short story that’s only available on an author’s website or a long fanfic.

And the ending??? I’ve always heard people talk about how a book left them staring at a ceiling questioning life and that’s exactly what I’m going through right now. But yeah, I enjoy it. 😅 I still buy physical books and I have a rule: I read mostly English books (when the original language is English) but sometimes I want to read German books, too (because I am German and I live in Germany). So I read the print version of a book if it’s German and the ebook, if it’s English or a translation from another language into English. Some libraries here in Germany use Libby, too, but not the library in the town where I live. lol I use Scribd instead, but mostly for audiobooks. I like my iPad, but I don’t like reading eBooks on it. It’s too big, especially if I’m in bed. So that’s uncomfortable. And I have no-phone-and-iPad-in-bed rule (at least for me. Not for my husband).

I had a kindle fire tablet for years and years. Recently I dropped it and the screen was destroyed so I bit the bullet and got the paperwhite too! The e-ink screen is an adjustment but overall I like it 😀

Instead of physically reading I’m listening to audiobooks since I also don’t have time. It’s a nice way to fill the silence when you don’t wanna listen to some music and so easy to tune in! In Germany we don’t have Libby I think so I mostly rely on Spotify audiobooks :)

So glad you got the Kindle! I love mine 😊 I cannot go back to physical books. They are expensive, heavy, take too much space and the font it way too small. Welcome to the club!

If you are a person who is just hankering to read a ton of books and you’re busy with school/work find the small times that add up. Have an hour commute to work? That’s two hours of an audio book everyday. Get breaks at work? That’s 30 min to read a different book. And to help with the circadian rhythm read for about 30 min before you go to sleep instead of looking at your phone. It’s become an adjustment to reading more than one book at a time, but you get used to it quickly! Importantly please don’t feel like you need to read a ton, if you enjoy it then it’s okay if you only read like 1 book a month. Don’t feel like you need to read asinine amounts because you see booktubers reading 100+ titles a year. Remember as she said, it’s literally her job to read. Good luck and happy tales everyone ❤️❤️

Fun fact, if you have a California address you can sign up for most of Californias libraries online for a digital library card, which you can use for Libby. I have almost ten cards now, it really helps bc you don't have to wait for so long

I wish I could do that. I live in MN and with the library card I have in the county I live in, libby uses the twin cities metro elibrary but I don’t think I can signup for other libraries even with an MN address.

I also read mostly ebooks but can't commit to a kindle because some library books will only let me read through Libby and I also sometimes still use Nook through B&N even though I feel like no one else does. So I have to use some type of general tablet (ipad, samsung, etc) that way I can have access to the different apps. My ipad was a hand me down and is also massive and not really convenient lol

If you go into settings and turn off page refresh after every turn, it should help speed up the kindle! (If that option is turned on, obviously lol)
