It's funny how these cars all develop the same issues! I've had my 03 mini for a year and the key only remotely unlocks the boot. On warm days I tend to just hold the unlock button to roll the windows down, reach in and use the handle on the inside to spare that key barrel! other issues,,,, squeaky window, check, blown door speaker, check, slightly untucked headlining, check. Thankfully my airbag light has stayed off however! Lovely to see the mini on the channel again

Its the "door open" micro switch that is stuck which means you can lock that door but the computer thinks the door is allredy open so it doesnt actuate when pressing open. On ford ones its pretty difficult to fix, on VW ones its pretty easy but it has usually has happened because a rubber dust cover has lost its hat so theres not much point in fixing it in any other way than replace with a new one..

Can you believe Haynes announced that future NEW vehicle workshop manuals will not be available in hard copy, they will be available only as electronic versions! I have an early-build ‘02 Cooper S and I was able to change out a bad door actuator without removing the door glass. That was about 4 years ago and while I don’t remember all the details I do remember being extremely frustrated during the process (until success!) and suffering some minor cuts on my hands fitting them into the tight confines of the door. So it is indeed possible to do without removing the glass but it’s not painless (mentally or physically!).

Yikes! Huge opening in the door and still can’t get to everything easily. Makes my Passat door lock issues look like a walk in the park... locks and unlocks fine just doesn’t register the door open so it relocks in 30 seconds if you don’t start it due to failed solder joints in the latch/actuator....and I’m still putting it off as I’ve done it before and it’s a pain in the backside! I’m just quick to start it when I get in the car. I admire your perseverance though.

It may have worked out considerably more expensive than you were expecting, but in some ways it's a good thing the other issues turned up while you were doing this as they were things that would have failed in the near future and probably left you stuck in a car park unable to get into your own car. Now you know there is considerably less risk of that happening...

Well, if you stop and think, 130,000 miles on a 20 yo Mini Cooper is not bad. Goes to show you how fragile plastics are. Do hope you find the reflector that broke when taking off the door card, and hope you replace that damaged, dead speaker with another new harmon/kardon speaker. I know the expenditure was more than you hoped for, but rationalize that this should last for HOPEFULLY another twenty years! As for the air conditioning, an evacuation is essential as well finding out why refrigerant has evaporated. Start saving up! And I must say Mrs. Furiousdriving looked quite lovely behind the wheel of the classic Volvo!

@@furiousdriving I am to curious to know when was the cooling system flushed? Not that had anything to do with the air conditioning, but just to side on caution, I don't want to see you stranded along the side of the road! Here where I reside we have mice, chipmunks that get into the HVAC, especially where the cabin filter goes, and make a nest (this being a 2019 Honda CRV), as well as the engine air filter housing. The vermin also nibbled on the filter itself, AGAIN. AND because of this, the blower fan is making a terrible racket, most likely hitting plastic. I will update you when we find the problem and solution. I will, however, never recommend a CRV.
