You guys are so lucky to be promoted directly from cadet to officer. In my country, usually after the cadetship, we go through the ratings for a few years before becoming an officer. Some companies offer a prospective officer program but are quite few.

I'm on training vessel now that's owned by the university and starting next June I'll be training on a merchant ship as a cadet. Thanks for posting the video. It really helps me getting a grasp of an idea of how 3rd officer's daily life is like.

After you do your first year at College your course instructor,Captain will refer you to a Shipping company (Eg Toll...).Then you do a year at Sea & your Training Officer,Captain will assess your capabilities at Sea as Cadet.When you've done your first year at Sea you do another year at College to study Cargo stabilities & Calculations,+ Chemistry.Before commencening you do 1+week training (🔥 Prevention training,Life Raft training etc) then you have your C.O.S.T Certificate,and after that you have 4 day Orientation (Includes Chemistry,Physics for a day).I must remind you about Chemistry,Physics get to know it asap,because there's Mathematics I never heard of it came to me a Big Shock I was a terrible mathes students,but getting to know it all came natural.If your going into 2 semester that starts in July,in Hobart not sure.-All the best to you

How long does it take you to maintain the fire fighting equipment, and do you know if the jobs of a 3rd officer are exactly the same on a cruise ship as well as a cargo ship? (For example, still maintaining the fire fighting equipment) Also, what colleges and courses do you have to do to become a 3rd officer?

Hy Mate... Really Excited that you have done so far... may you please tell me how to enroll as cadet or third mate on your good company??
@theaussieseafarer26584 жыл бұрын
Hi Adi. Thank you so much. Its always a challenge for everyone to enrol as a cadet. Its a tough world but you just need to put together a list of all the shipping companies you can think of and call them and email them all periodically. Make sure you have a simple and easy to read CV and cover letter. You should keep in regular contact with them until they have an opportunity available.

@@theaussieseafarer2658 Interesting- I don’t know much about the Aussie merchant fleet nor how you guys do credentialing (other than STCW). Also, I stopped by the mission to seafarers in Melbourne last I was there. Check one out sometime when you’re back home. See ya out there & congrats on the promotion!

how many contracts you completed before you got promoted?
@theaussieseafarer26584 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. In Australia, you must complete 18 months of sea time as a cadet. It doesn't matter how many contracts you split it into.
@TheGamingFrogTV4 жыл бұрын
@@theaussieseafarer2658Thanks for the answer. Just wondering because not always when you graduate and get the ticket you work as officer straight off.
@theaussieseafarer26584 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right. Some companies require you to return to sea as an OS and wait for promotion to AB and then to junior officer. I think this is the process when there are too many qualified candidates and not enough available jobs. In Australia we are fortunate that when we finish as a cadet, we can them work immediately at a junior officer, provided that we can find an opportunity. I think if you look internationally you may be able to do this too

Hey ! love your videos man Keep it up !! Congrats on the promotion :D Q. is there internet on ship ? if there is , is it good ?
@theaussieseafarer26584 жыл бұрын
Hi Claude. Thank you for your kind words. Glad you are enjoying the content. It encourages me every day to create more content. Most ships have internet on board but some only have internet for the captain. The captain's satellite internet is very good but the crew wifi can be a little temperamental 🤪
