I'm italian, I went to florence with a couple of friends just to visit it, it was the first time for me. Someone parked in front of our car so that we couldn't get out of the parking spot, so we called the police asking for help. The phone operator said they couldn't do anything about it, when it was obvious that the car had to be towed. We then called Carabinieri, the military police, and they told us we were right, and that we needed to call the police again. The story continued for 5 hours, it was dark outside, and even Carabinieri started arguing with the police about the situation. At the end we stopped a police car that was passing by, the officier saw the problem and got the car removed in 15 minutes. Police here is a joke, you can become and officier just with the right connections, that's it. If you have friends in police or politics, then you're god. As a premise, I hold a bachelor's and master's degree in Italian Law (110/110 Summa cum Laude), an LLM from an English speaking country (Magna cum Laude) and I'm attending a PhD in Law at an Italian University. You showed really poor, reprehensible, and even illegal behaviour. You contravened traffic laws by driving in a dangerous way in the middle of the road. You expect Italian people to speak English, when the only official language in Italy is Italian, and that's the only language that police officers and other members of the Public Administration are expected to speak. I am a frequent traveller, unfortunately I only speak Italian, English and Spanish, and whenever I go to a foreign country (where the official language is different from the three I mentioned), I do not expect locals to speak any of them. I'm happy if they do, but it's not their fault if they don't, and I feel like I am the one "at fault" for not speaking their language. You are a foreigner in a different country, you don't know *anything* about the law in general and about Italian law in particular, and you claimed to teach police officers the Italian law. They had every right to stop you, they had every right to ask for your ID, and they had every right not to accept the pictures of your ID as a valid document, since they are NOT valid documents in Italy. You made fun of police officers of a foreign State, you disregarded any law - because you don't know them, even though you claim to teach them to those who actually know them - and you showed very uncooperative, arrogant, and frustrating behaviour. You had the audacity to say "You Italian police officers are all corrupt because you are not Americans", which is an extremely outrageous, defamatory, racist and ignorant statement. You also committed a crime by trying to bribe police officers (art. 322 of the Italian Penal Code), which is a conduct punishable by improsonment from 1 to 2.5 years when the bribe is not accepted. Also, the fact that the police officers did *not* accept your bribe shows that they are *not* corrupt. You should really reconsider your attitude and the way you behave in foreign countries. It was extremely disrespectful and provocative. You were in the Città Eterna, Roma Caput Mundi, full of culture, history, and art, in front of one of the most beautiful fountains in the world, and you showed no respect for the place that was hosting you and for the people who work there. I want to praise Italian police officers for not making the situation escalate and for handling the situation in a professional manner, and for using their discretion to decide not to punish you.

Some friends Ive been with in italy last year had a similar experience with the italian police. They took 2 of them into custody an dumped both of them on the backseat of the police car which only had one seat and a wall, kinda tiny space. Both of them are really big guys and really had claustrophobia kickin' in back there. Also, NONE of them spoke english, all of them just continued speaking italian even though they knew we could not understand them at all..at the end they were held for like 7 hours and released after Lets all send an email to that police department and educate them about law and rights (the one in the video)
@демкен Жыл бұрын
wait a minute, italian police must know the language of any foreigner who visit italy? it means that in england, finland, russia, japan or any other country police must know italian to deal in the street with italian tourists? this case shows a sure abuse and not professional behavior (but not corruption that is another thing) from italian police, that's for sure, but u can't pretend that police must speak your language in their country...
@jgpacheco21 Жыл бұрын
@@демкен They were clearly saying phrases in english even though the understanding of the translation wasnt all there. Soo some of them did understand english at the very least. They even had a translator ffs. Also english is arguably the first or second most spoken language in the world. Patrolling an area that is very populated by tourist and not being able to understand english is poor management on their part.
@демкен Жыл бұрын
@@jgpacheco21 this is another point i think, the matter is that there is no a legal duty or principal where push police (in any country) to speak languages of foreigner tourists, in case of criminal charge of course there are conventions who provide official translator but it is not the case of video, english has 460 million mother tongue, chinese 960 million, hindi 415 million, spain 442 million, so how many language police of any country should speak to please tourists? this has nothing to do with the real unprofessional conduct of italian police ps: half of tourists in rome comes from asia do you pretend they speak also mandarin japanese and chines?

@@демкен I've never heard of that, but I would expect that at least the police in tourist towns should speak english. I don't know why, but even many young people in Italy can't speak english. Not sure why the police should be able to speak English in a foreign country.
