I don't really watch your videos to learn about speaker theory and building (although I have learned a lot from them) , I watch them to relax (It's a stressful world) . That said , I really enjoyed how you answered the guys complaint about you using your videos to promote your kits by using his comment to promote your kits ! (BEAST) Have fun Kirby , and keep up the good work . 😁

Kirby! If people want to talk equations and parameters and theory, there are countless places on the internet to find all that information from experts and novices alike. I’ve been to them allllll. But this is the ONLY place I’ve found where the build process is so elegantly documented through well filmed, cleanly edited, and well balanced color ON THE INTERNET. Not to mention the woodworking skills add a lot of value. This isn’t a science Chanel, it’s a inspirational hobbyist doing what he enjoys. As someone who works in acoustic research of all people I should be annoyed by the inset speakers into baffle blah blah it’s a beautiful speaker, not a $20,000 engineering marvel. Keep it up!

Looking back on it, one of my two regrets in the DIY audio community is calling out Kirby in the comments on the Impulse video. The other is not building enough. At the time, I had a much more dogmatic approach to design and building. If you weren't building flat frequency, wide off axis response, low group delay, perfect impulse response speakers then why were you doing it? Since then, my ideology, and consequently my criticism, has loosened up and I'm more apt to appreciate what each designer brings to the table, both aesthetically and aurally. If you haven't heard Kirby's interview on the Make or Break Show, I'd highly recommend it. When he mentions the 80/20 rule in regards to speaker building, it's pretty relative to the few times I've done builds. Doing the basics of speaker building - building the right size box, fixing a speaker to the box - gets you 80% of the way there and the next 20% is an uphill climb. And despite any criticism I toss up, I've always super appreciated the videos and enjoyed them.

You answered the “called out” question in an eloquent way Kirby; the fun is in the design. Build the speakers the way you want, and enjoy doing it above all else.

Your response to the 'call out' was perfect. Some people just need a reason to challenge you because they have nothing better to do. They become popular by condemning others. You took that one in stride and I like that. Keep building speakers whatever you want to. I am glad you did this.

Thanks Kirby! I think all your videos are great and it shows you put a lot of time into them I don't mind the plugs for your own work. Out of all the ways people monetise their time making KZbin videos you have one of the most pure and honest ways which most of us appreciate. I've learned a ton from you and picked up plenty of inspiration. Keep doing you!

In your defence, you've made vids that go into detail on crossover and box design - I don't expect you to repeat that with every build vid. Andrew Jones is probably the most accessible 'big name' speaker designer I can think of, but he doesnt bang on about a new speaker just to hear himself talk : there's a payday on the back of all those interviews. Keep em coming, Kirby.

I like the fact that your vids are as simple as they are. I come here for inspiration and creativity. Some other youtubers that you've partnered with at times are the places I go for in depth testing and knowledge about diy enclosures. I love the calm, laid back serene aspect of watching you build speakers. Even down to the lofi music. Keep up the great work, and don't feel pressured to change your style if it's not what you're going for, and not a style that you can really express yourself the way that you'd like. Your vids have a very specific quality that keeps me coming back time and time again. Thanks so much for what you do Kirby, and keep doing it.

We sometimes use Corian as a baffle. The epoxy should be fine but without check out if the speaker has a resonant frequency in the audible or near audible range it is not for certain. Harmonics could also effect this.

people use fiberglass for subwoofer enclosures all the time to get into custom shapes in car audio. it's fine as long as it is stiff enough, those thick front baffles would be way overkill so no way would your audio be effected.

Hey Kirbdude, Your videos inspired me to get into speaker building again after many years! Thank you kindly, that made me happy :) I did Audio Engineering before I switched to computer graphics. Just did a conversion of an old pre-FM radio box into a 2.1 Bluetooth speaker. Made a tons of mistakes but managed to mitigate some of them and the speaker sounds quite nice but too directional in mids and highs. Outdoor listening in 30 degree field is quite alright and decently loud. I'm about to upload a video of my 16-month-old nephew dancing to some funk blasting from the speaker :)

Keep it up. I do actually quite like just watching various build videos on KZbin. I find it quite relaxing as well. And you have put out several great instructions videos too. You do great stuff and I like your approach. Specifically that you encourage people to approach speaker building with whatever goals they have in mind. If you are gonna sit back once you have made your speaker and be super stoked because it looks good, or sounds good, or is super small or super huge or super colourful or whatever you decide then awesome for you, particularly when you make it yourself.

A rear chamber and port can simulate the recess ed drivers in hornresponse . Use S and L inputs for the enclosure or even vice versa if sealed. There’s an upper band rising response if 2.0xpi with an excessive depth after 1.5-2” on these ‘full range’ 3-5” drivers. You don’t have a driver recessed so deeply and anyone with a comment should provide some info or testing (impulse did a good job of this with results ) to show otherwise.

Kirby, Love the Q&A format. I built your fawn kit this week, first time ever building a speaker. Thank you so much for making these kits available. Everyone loves it and I gladly accept all the compliments I get on the design and sound. A rear mounted tweeter could be compensated for by using a lower order crossover and/or allowing the tweeter to have a rising response - since a rear mounted tweeter will have a descending response.

Unfortunately the dispersion pattern and imaging is also affected but that's negligible in a Bluetooth speaker that's not for critical listening. Who cares about being correct all the time anyway to appease people . Build it how you want to build it. Eventually people will learn to respect the designer and appreciate all the work.

I've seen that Impulse video on recessed baffles, and he expected to find a much greater issue than he actually measured. It is negligible impact for a MUCH more attractive speaker. I can see where some off axis response could be affected, but come on. Keep mixing beauty with sound and ignore the nit pickers

In the battle of love vs hate, love inevitably wins. Trolls will undoubtedly spew venom, but in return they are doomed to a lifetime of unhappiness, dissatisfaction and self-loathing. The only power they have is what you give them. So let love win and don't let haters dissuade you from turning out the content YOU WANT to create. You are an audiophile - an artist - a craftsman - and an innovator - and I respect the fck out of you. You keep doing you and all the rest will naturally fall in place. in all fairness I don't think anybody would watch if you went so much into the depth because the video would be an hour long. if somebody is really interested in building something then they should look into the basics first. these videos are more like idea creators for people who already have an idea of what they want to do, if you're just getting into wood working and speaker designing then these projects are a little advanced for most beginners. for anybody else who wants to complain, I would try a car stereo boombox thing first.

You're not entitled to free stuff and it's just good business to redirect viewers and fans to something that helps them, AND also helps you make a living of it. Moron. Rant done.
