What I really liked is how respectful Simon was. He didn't hold up (or so it seems). I hate when people who have a higher level joke around. You didn't do it, and that shows a ton of respect not only towards your opponent (who played quite well) but also towards your audience!

I’m a high level rec/club player (former college player, 5.0 by USTA standards)…and recently played a guy who plays futures, and he won 18 straight games. Next time we played I did manage to squeak out two games in three sets though. The difference in level is astounding; its surreal playing someone that is not in the least bit bothered by my best shots, making me have to hit my best shot 5+ times in a row to have a chance at winning a point. It’s awesome.

Love this. I have new friends who thought I was full of bs when I told them I was a tennis instructor for 14yrs and hitting partner for pros during tournaments. All are avid players who played high school tennis. I walked away from the game and gained weight, so all of them thought I was lying. Especially dropping a few names of pro players I hit with. Then…after 10 minutes of me hitting deep + heavy top & crushing the ball, I could see them gulp in fear of me setting up for a shot, anticipating how much pace they had to deal with or a nasty drop shot. Sometimes it’s good to show amateurs another level in person.

Good stuff Simon!! I remember about 10 years ago at the Binghamton challenger one of the amateurs challenged Richard Bloomfield. I believe he was a restaurant owner and the challenge was if Richard can "golden set" him meaning (he doesn't win a point) he gets a $100 and dinner at the restaurant. Sure enough and I saw the whole match (which was about 15 minutes).... Richard beat him 60 without letting him win a point!! It was pretty impressive considering Richard's game of serving and volleying... and chip in charge. It was absolute destruction... Almost every point a winner or I put away volley!! 😄

Simon, I want to know why you dont' use the cutter or slider to either ace or pull your opponents out wide at this level of play. You play stronger tennis against weaker opponents who can't give you any pressure. An amateur club player lacks the knowledge that the ATP guys have. Its a mistake for the amateur club player to try to challenge the pro when they don't have the pro knowledge. They also cannot handle the higher pronation levels that the ATP guys hit at. The serves at this level are coming 120-130+ mph.' Not 60 to 120 mph at the amateur club level. The amateur got Wasted. He had trouble rallying the ball. High pressure balls finds many holes in the amateurs game. This is what happens when you put a level 10 guy up against someone whose at level 100.
