Tbh, I’m really thankful for a video like this. I took Kashtira to a 50 person PS5 tournament yesterday, and got ROCKED. It discouraged me for the 250th YCS, but it is comforting to see that obviously really good players also just have rough days at the tourney. Sometimes, odds are just against you, and that’s only fair.

A big thing with the deck is having variation in interaction. especially with the hard once-per-turn traps like Overroot and Punishment, drawing 2 of those means you functionally have 1 fewer card in hand, so playing furniture in that slot of the third, Ice Dragon's Prison, or Weigh Bridge, makes you less likely to open dead draws. As someone not playing skill drain, I play 1 of every piece of furniture, because if I open cards I can't use, like 2 Arianna or a lovely, I can discard the spare, and search for whatever welcome or field spell I need. They also allow you to play Backjack, which is a card that comes up a lot against evenly matched, as you can play around tactics by using it in the battle phase in order to set an extra trap after the evenly leaves you on one. They also recur themselves, so they generate more advantage over time, like a long term investment.
@seyberfox7723
@seyberfox7723 Жыл бұрын
Lab is hard to play correctly if you're not completely familiar with it. A lot of little interactions can be missed if you're not 100% in the zone. Lab also is highly costumable and I'm sure there could be a build which could have a little edge over the field if carefully thought trough. Don't be scared to play some more monsters, use the options to toolbox specific silverbullets and think about ways to counter the opponents side.

I would absolutly recomment to play cooclock as one of in the main while you play heavenly. it synergized with heanvly and there are a few very cool interactions going first and goind second. It secures you the possibility to search and activate the floodgates the turn you set it. I think its an absolut must @.@

To help consistency of the deck, I choose to play heavinly prison in main deck, the protection effect will be useless in first game most of the times, but being able to set wellcomes or pots for follow up, as a effect that resolves even under skill drain, helps a lot

I have been playing Labrynth since the latest banlist and I have noticed my worst matchup is first and foremost myself (or my opening 5 cards if you will). Like all backrow decks, you have a lot less topdecks to get you back in the game if you fall behind, with more often that not being unable to recover at all, with your reliance in your opening hand being huge. Apart from that, I find the Dark World matchup extremely hard since your floodgates do nothing to them and if you lose the die roll, well, you lose game 1 on the spot. At least against Branded/Kashtira, you can set 5 cards and hope they are enough (90% of the time they are not though, which is sad). As for the main deck, I do play 3 DBarrier + the Clock in the main just because my locals are basically all Branded but apart from that the deck is the same. I honestly don't think there are more ways to build the deck right now. Perhaps after Wannabee comes out and the banlist addresses Kashtira, MAYBE you could play that along with more furniture and Backjacks as a different approach to the list, aiming to set-up engine going second as well as going first and try to slowly outgrind. Possibly copium take, but you never know. Finally for the side deck, I find Kaijus the way to go. They do clash with Duality, but most people currently do not go for the full Kashtira combo and only do Arise-heart + backrow/followup (at least where I play) so Sphere is pretty much always dead. I am not having huge success with the deck, always going X-2 over 6 rounds, but my losses are more often that not out of my control, so there's that at least. You can play better, but you can't really do more that what your opening cards dictate. Anyway, I hope to see you experiment with the deck more on stream, although for London I would advice bringing, sadly, Kashtira. It is the definite best deck of the format, engine and deckbuilding space wise, with everything else lagging very far behind. But hey, I would love to be proven wrong.

I like Labrynth as a deck cause you can play a lot of different trap cards to cover so much things but the deck auto loses so hard to too many cards seeing play atm. Deck feels really good when no one is siding for it but when they do I think you'll get blown out to many times to actually make top cut.

Joshua, i really like hearing your insight on this deck, ive been playing it a lot as well this format and i gotta say... yeah lovely has like a 40% chance of being in the hand it feels like (i drew it 6 times in a row one day). But you mentioned how the deck had consistency issues and what other potential traps to include, i have a few cards that have helped with it a bit personally, if you want to keep experimenting with this deck: 1. Main deck Lord of Heavenly Prison. Believe me when i say that being able to turn any set card into engine while also putting 3k body on board is a lot more impactful than it seems at first. I feel like ive won 90% of games when I opened that card. I play it 2 in builds with 3 prospy, i dont think you need any more than that 2. Trap trick. as hard as the downside can be sometimes, having essentially 1-2 more copies of any trap in your deck is borderline broken in some hands, and worst case scenario its just more copies of the welcomes. It also allows you to potentially cut punishment and terrors down to 2 and put in more traps, like the karma cannon, or the second d barrier if you want to trap trick into it against branded / swordsoul. In my eyes, it basically allows me to play a "bigger deck" (in terms of traps) while staying at 40 cards Also i agree that ash doesnt feel right in this deck, it feels too low impact and I would rather main deck lava golem / kaijus over it. I am actually currently testing gamma and it feels REALLY good to be able to stop an ash on prosperity or welcome (plus you can bounce driver with big welcome for some potentially silly plays), or just completely stop a play from my opponent. This does make it harder to play duality, but with trap trick and potentially bumping lord to 3 it still works fine in my testing. Those are a few of the things I've been testing to make lab more consistent, thanks again for the insight on the deck!

I feel like Daruma Cannon is really underrated in Labrynth. You can out Arise-Heart and Kashtira board, and even Forbidden Lance cannot stop it, also blocking their special summon, and even if you book your own monster you can bounce back to hand with Big Welcome and the Lady can jump again, it feels like it could be a 3 of in this deck, I don't know why I don't see many people play it.
@chasing_it_all
@chasing_it_all Жыл бұрын
Labrynth is one of those decks that I love to see get representation but acts as a grim reminder of the state of backrow control in modern YGO. The game is just too fast and if you aren't virus turbo-ing or floodgating your opponent out of the game, you probably aren't having a good time. It sucks extra ducks when your opponent is going to load up on S/T destruction for the next rounds and the amount of protection you have is pretty slim. I'm crossing my fingers Konami will do the same thing they did to make other backrow control decks good and less floodgate reliant: Extra Deck support. It is absolutely mind-boggling how Konami refuses to give guys like Eldlich and Labrynth decent in-archetype extra deck support since the Extra Deck is perhaps the most important core to modern YGO. Hoping Labrynth's popularity changes that. Keep up the good work!

I think judgment seems like a weird choice, personally, I think anti-spell and imperial iron wall seem like better options, reasons? Most players would be siding Cyclone, Evenly, Denkko, Lighting Storm, etc. this cards can slow your opponent down, since : 1. Imperial iron wall: banishing cards, currently one of the most used mechanics in the game. 2. Anti-spell: most decks currently play an average of 12-14 spells, with the exception of Kash, which plays in average 18-20 spells, and runick, or even branded, nothing to say about those two I think we all know it would be very effective. Personally, I think this card is extremely good in the current format. Overall the deck seems like a really good option, thanks for the analysis and report! 👍🏾🔥

Interesting, I've also found Skill Drain to not be as impactful. Our lists are very different but I do agree about Arianna, I've actually moved her back up to 3 just because no engine is such a crushing position to play from and more than once I've had both Arianna's banished against Kash so I sphere mode and then just can't get back into the game. I personally disagree about eradicator, I've found eradicator to do an enormous amount of work in my games. I never call it blind but short of a branded player using BraFu off the top waiting to see what deck it is and calling something has been big, if only for the hand knowledge alone letting me know what to Punishment, Roots, etc. Entirely possible it's just overperforming for me though!

my favourite clock combo and why it's in my main deck, is big welcome or clock plus Ariana. normal Ariana. search missing peice, set big, clock, activate big, summon lovely, bounce Ariana, destroy a random card in the hand, reset big welcome, summon lady in op draw phase, bounce it. destroy another card in hand, and then summon lady. and ya, the decks main issue is consistency, especially since I'm using extravagance for budget reasons. once the deck goes, it's unstoppable, but if the ball gets stopped it will not go again.
@narfd.8837
@narfd.8837 Жыл бұрын
Ah Lovely, the Lovely bomb and Lovely brick. Believe, you need to pile shuffle or else Lovely will almost always end in a "stack" with your Welcomes and you will draw it way too much. Labrynth has the usual issue that it's turn 1 is all about survival and not about winning, meaning consistency is much more important than anything else. If you get past turn 1 and can get going you win most games. But sometimes it's just one of those days where you don't draw well enough. Regarding the Furniture: If Kashtira wasn't a threat right now the furniture build (the IKEA build as I call it) would probably the best build as it has absurd consistency, positive redundancy, can make use off bricks in your hand, has a higher ceiling (yes, that version can die to Nibiru if you play into it!) and snowballs even harder off even just 1 trap trigger. Furthermore it has more top decks that work due to the higher monster count and Big Welcome being busted to hell and back. But Arise-Heart makes the furnitures almost unplayable as they need to send themselves to the GY for cost. But once Kashtira has been hit by the banlist, even if just a little bit, that version has the potential to be a menace to the game.

I had an opposite experience playing regionals with Labrynth today. I went 5-2 while only winning one dice roll. I faced 4 Kashtira, 1 Marincess, 1 Springans and a Labrynth mirror and only ended up losing 1 Kashtira and unfortunatly lost the mirror. I did however play less spot removal, while Skill Drain and Gozen Match were straight up MVP's in the Kashtira matchup (Gozen in the side). I did end up having a different meta call for this, playing Shifter and Droll in the side and not playing many going second cards for Kashtira. Going second against Kashtira post side Evenly was my only hard going second card, because Kashtira players nowadays go for Arise-heart pass, which means I rather set a gozen/skill drain amongst as many other backrow as possible so it doesn't get sniped, which honestly worked wonders for me today.

the reason why eradicator is best in the main is because 'its only good in certain matchups' is flat out, not true. at minimum, base value, rock bottom, the worst it can do is tell you what they're playing in their hand, even if it doesnt destroy anything, it still lets you see their hand, and on top of that, every deck, even lab and traptrick, are playing spells, so if you aren't sure if they are playing any traps, you can guarantee everyone has lots of spells in their deck. so you always hit something. and clearing kash out of every field spell and searching spell card is too good to pass up.

I played philly regional yd with labrynth and had a similar experience. Not with the bricking part, but I struggled because the deck was just way too slow. Combo outresources labrynth way too easily and generates double the advantage in a single turn. For this reason I tried to play a simplistic floodgate build because if I can't have as many cards as my opponent, my 1 card needs to shut off multiple of theirs. So I main decked 3 skill drain 3 gozen and 2 rivalry and sided 2 iron wall and the 3rd rivalry. I also cut the clock and the field spell because outside of lovely I didn't want to play any card that had the potential be a brick

why no lord in main? its a big boy and it gives you a pot, welcomes or a trap. and i think 1 trap trick would be insane. the times i played the deck lord was pretty good. now i stopped with the deck but i agree its so much fun to play just sometimes you get steamrolled.

every time you do this even with "bad" results you still gain experience and knowledge about the current meta and yourself.. and imo you have nothing to prove to anyone anyway mr. triple ycs winner. good nite and lfg 25k

i can see why there would be problems, handtraps are not good in trap decks unless the would do as much as a good trap card like torrential which is a devestating card against most decks. The only good handtrap is nibiru against kashtira. The trap deck staples which are necessary are 2 traptrick, 2 pot of duality, 2 extravagance ( better than prosp because you are looking for card advantage and not certain cards), 3 solemn strike, 3 lord of the heavenly prison. All of these cards are good no matter the situation even lord because he gives free advantage. Also in rounds 2 and 3 you NEVER LET THE LORD OUT OF YOUR HAND NO MATTER WHAT, always play like your opponent has some kind of destruction.2 arianna and 2 welcome are the ratios i like since i dont want to draw too many of them, also if i dont draw any engine that means i have drawn all of the good generic trap cards or lovely. You always play trap cards that go 1 for 2 or more like torrential, punishment, ice dragons prison, destructive daruma, weighmeasure. Also there needs to be more floodgates, skill drain is good but with more floodgates like gozen match and rivalry of the warlords you can entirely lock an opponent. You always play either 3 gozen or 3 rivalry depending on the format, currently gozen is the better choice but a card like rivalry is always good in the side deck. This deck is really good if know how to be the ultimate menace.

If you do not like skill drain you could try solemn strike. It is good for countering ash and breaking boards going second.

I've been saying that Arianna should always be played at 3, and that Skill Drain is very win more, so seeing such a big name saying that makes me feel very validated lol. My list is pretty similar to yours, except with 0 Skill Drain

Idk, I played Labrynth at regionals today and I can safely say Skill Drain was the MVP card for me today, going 5-2 and barely missing out on top 8 (going 10th) because I misplayed the mirrormatch in the final round. I also play Arianna at 2, and in my opinion Arianna at 3 is straight up worse right now (from testing with both at 2 and 3), because I don't even want to see Arianna in every opening hand.

Labrynth feels like a deck that’s very reliant on good variance. When it’s your day it’s YOUR day. But often times you’ll end up in a scenario like this regional. Personally if i would take a deck to a YCS i don’t think labrynth is the pick where so much can be out of your control. Honestly nothing feels as “consistently” good as kashtira

Reminds me of the altergeist player that got top 4(?) in tear format. The guy sided out 1 faker and ended up winning the duel by drawing imperm + faker. Obviously the game doesn’t boil down to luck but some decks are more susceptible to it than others.

Why don't you add 3 extravagance to the deck? Card says draw 2 and if you draw it in addition to prosp you still have 5 playable cards, maybe bait their ash and still prosp afterwards

After i played 10 times with a friend who plays branded and i drew 7 out of 10 games my lovely. I had enough. I started to play 3 of every furniture. It works so good. If you play the furniture your whole gameplan changes. But it feels so good to discard your useless hands

I worked on the deck a lot. This build is not good. Furniture + lady out denko...furniture are not -1 if you discard Traps that get value in grave (breakthrough skill, lost wind, danger bigfoot, etc). Ash/evenly hurt the deck alot so you can main those staples with 2 crossout D. Mistake is a more well-rounded card for Kash since Lance/bookofmoon cannot out it, you dont search if you play pot of Extravagance. Only 1-2 times at most with arianna. Here are some tips buddy. Played Labs since first release of set at LA regionals and tearlament/spright overrun, did well with furnitures. Field is very powerful.

I think people who play skill drain are playing the deck wrong. Let me explain ,with that card you can't use the effects of the lovely lady to pop or handloop you opponent or reset an importante trap. In my deck i prefere other traps like summon limit or anti-spell and these carda helped me a lot more than skill drain during my duels
