V wrote this song himself with help from, and collab-vocals from, RM. V had envied the Rap-line for a long time for being able to perform songs that they themselves had written and composed, so he wanted to try and do the same. 4 O'Clock, is that song :) As a sidenote; There has been some speculation that V wrote this song in loving memory of his Grandma who had passed away. This speculation came from a later (I believe this was pretty recently, actually) statement that V made about how he and his Grandma would always go to a park in the evenings and talk and watch the sunset. That she would sing small melodies for him to calm him. These details can be seen referenced in the lyrics of the song and this is why there has been some speculation. Should this prove to be true, it puts a whole new layer on an already beautiful song. And may Tae's Grandma and Grandpa rest in piece, knowing that their beautiful Grandson grew up into a wonderful young man with a loving heart

Emma Jakobsen - 4 O’Clock is about Tae’s wish to express the feeling of being in a quiet, still park as the sun rises, while waiting for a friend. The friend was Jimin, and it’s his voice which Tae hears as he waits. RM said it took a while to write as BTS was so busy, and that it was a 50/50 collab. Emma Jakobsen - Oh, no, that's okay 😘I know what twitter's like and some don't provide links to prove their story. It's good to get the legend right, that's all. There is a connection with Tae's grandmother. She passed in September '16 and Tae didn't come back off tour to see her, and didn't attend her funeral - both because of BTS commitments. He thought he could cope, but she had been his mother figure, and her sudden passing, and not being able to mourn sent him off the rails. It was still very raw when he announced the loss to ARMY in the December, at 3rd muster. BTS had their post-Christmas comeback in February '17 with Spring Day - and you only have to hear the lyrics to understand how that song affected him at that time. Spring Day became a special song for him and Jimin, as it was at this time that Jimin used to sit on bathroom floors with Tae, and they would both cry as Tae struggled. If you read the lyrics of 4 O'Clock Tae asks why he's crying - it's a reference to seeing Jimin in tears, and wishing he hadn't caused it. The blue light of night and the coming of dawn is his coming through the pain; and it's Jimin's singing in the park he hears - representing how Jimin's voice helped him through the loss. RM did also post a written link to fancafe, but then deleted some of it, where he talked about Jimin being the person in the song (ARMY had already noted it, of course): twitter.com/vmins_/status/872860566817320960 RM realised he might have over-stepped the mark and given something away Tae didn't want known, so he removed Jimin's name and made it more general. He didn't want ARMY to link Tae's sadness to the meaning of the song, if Tae wanted it kept private. It is sad, but it means much more because it's one moment Tae really showed his feelings, and just how much he loved Jimin for being there. Sorry about the essay. Ignore it if it's a bore. Just for you to now: RM asked to V on Fancafe who is the friend he was waiting in the park, rhe friends he talk in the song and V response was that that friend is Jimin. Then Namjoon posted that Jimin is the friend Tae keep talking on the song. When I read that and then I listened to the song again, I almost cry 😢😢😢 the lyrics plus the music plus their voices, is a masterpiece 😭💜

Tae said that he always wanted to sing or perform a song of his own like RM or jhope or suga, so he wrote 4 o’clock. The inspiration is said to come from times that Jimin and he would meet early in the morning and talk about everything. He asked RM for help to add finishing touches and contribute to the song to make it perfect. Just in case you wanted a bit of background information. This is one of my favorite songs. It’s so beautiful.

V voice is so comforting and warming, it's very smooth. RM voice is really soothing too, I feel some people (not all) take his singing voice an abilities for granted. Like he is a rapper and so is J-Hope and he can sing, but there is something about RM voice that stands out to me in the rap line. No, he was waiting for a friend, it could be Jimin, but waiting for "Jimin" in the park is just the scenario. The song is about Tae's feeling while sitting in the park alone at dawn, listening to the bird sings and so on. It's never been about Jimin or whoever he was waiting at the time. Please stop bringing Jimin up whenever talking about this song, let's not making it all about him. Just for once, let it be about Tae and Namjoon. Please!
