My Dad and Grandpa were beekeepers in south Florida, just outside Miami, so I grew up with hives in our yard and held bees in my hand without being stung. They were the ones who were called to collect a swarm from a tree branch or an eve of a house! They turned them into a hive, and the most I remember us having was 9 at one time! I loved the fresh honeycomb dripping with sweet sticky honey that I always got a chunk of when my Dad robbed the hive. This was a real treat seeing you start your own hive! Best of luck with it!

We have kept bees for a few years now at our urban garden. The bees reward you with bigger fruit and vegetables crops. And the Honey really is amazing. When time to harvest, a cookie sheet and a potato masher work the best for a backyard hive. Have fun!

I was so excited when I saw this pop up in my subscriptions! We inherited an established hive box from a neighbor who moved away, so we were clueless but excited to learn how to care for them. A couple weeks later Hurricane Matthew hit and the state did a mass mosquito spraying to prevent Zika. All that standing water, perfect mosquito breeding grounds, etc. Anyway, the pesticide covered everything and there was no protecting bees from that. I'm looking forward to more bee videos so we can feel confident to start over again. Tfs!

Great video, throughout the demonstration I was wondering if Aaron had a suit on, so kudos to him...most hives are lost in the first year due to starvation and predators. My favorite strategy for starting a colony is not harvesting their honey for the first year and feeding them during the winter. Each location is unique for predators. Chicken wire works well in my case...Liked!

I think it's really interesting that you got your bees so fast. In the UK you have to go on a 6 week course and then they recommend that you keep your bees on a communal apiary for a year before you move them to your garden. It kind of puts me off because I want to have bees in my garden now but then I suppose having lots of time to learn how to look after them maybe helps you to be more successful? I don't know!

Hello! What an interesting video! I'd like to know how you get the honey out? and how you (i'm assuming) jar it, or put it in a container. Is there a cleansing process for the honey to be edible or is it just ready to rumble right out of the bee boxes? How much honey will this set up produce and how long does it take? I'd love a video of that whole process. Thanks :) Love your channel.

That was awesome Laura...I have been trying to convince my husband to get honey bees 🐝 still working on it but I did want to tell you about some bees and I am pretty sure they where honey bees, there was a swarm of them high in a maple tree and I watched it for days and it seemed to be growing in size but then one day I went to check on them and the crows had destroyed the hive they tried to rebuild but the crows kept destroying so then they were gone so how can you keep the crows away? Love your vids 🌷💐🌸🌺🌹🐝🇨🇦

@TheBomdor7 жыл бұрын
The gumdrop is to keep the queen safe from the colony. They may take the queen for an enemy and attack her. If they do, the little cage will keep her safe. It will give the colony time to get to know her scent. (singing) "getting to know you, getting to hope you like me" lol
