As a wine person, I'll say this thing. This is probably very first video in modern times about making champagne that you can share to a friend asking why champagne cost as much as it costs, than it's a video on Krug. And when I say modern times, I mean on interesting 10 minutes to a friend who don't really care of such a thing, but it's interesting to watch! To top it up, very special thing to watch and thank you a lot Alexander for this, sharing such a thing with us!

From one Alexander to another. My father, Tim illustrated John Arlott's book "The House of Krug", and that was enough of a family connection for me to get a place working in the 1989 vendange - even working the Clos de Mesnil. My left hand still bears the scars, literally of the hardest job I have ever had, then 24 hour shifts in the Pressoir, and the highlight a lunch with Monsieur Henri - chicken and tarragon pie with a bottle of '52. Honoured to have been part of the legend. Keep up the good work.

This may be my favorite video you have done. The production and the theme are top notch. Unlike the restaurants you visit, it is “possible” to go there as mere mortals, but this takes us somewhere that’s virtually impossible to experience firsthand. Everything about Krug is perfection, except the music pairing which I think is BS. Damn, there goes my invitation. 😂
@stevecarlisle73412 ай бұрын
When I first heard it, I though how pretentious. Then I considered what they were trying to achieve, which is a complete sensory experience. The product has taste, smell, visual appeal, and mouth feel of the bubbles, that covey the complexity. Unless you are keen of hearing, the only thing left is sound. Personally, I'd mic the bubbles, but I understand what they are trying to do and I don't think BS, just requires an explanation.
@SQERDOMOONLIGHT2 ай бұрын
I appreciate that Krug is trying to innovate, but the music pairing and the app for code scanning (instead of just a database of codes) are bullshit. Focus on the top notch quality champagne. Don't make useless distractions around it!
@SQERDOMOONLIGHT2 ай бұрын
@@stevecarlisle7341 making new compositions every year is BS. Just like champagne, you only need to perfect it once. Krug can't top classics like Mozart, Chopin, etc.

@wybesallows54462 ай бұрын
I work in advertising and this is in fact a clear marketing trick. They probably struggle to get attention and tell an interesting story for their releases. 'Here's number 172, after last years 171!'. They create this thing with musicians so they have something new to tell and to help explain the abstract nuances and differences in bottles probably. So, TL;DR yes, it is total BS.

I'm lucky! The first Krug I ever tasted was a 1979 Clos du Mesnil. I was young guy just getting into wine. I think it was around 1990/91. It blew me away! As far as wine goes, probably the most memorable experience I've had. Only comparable to 1982 Latour. Both changed the way I thought of wine. I never again tasted another Clos du Mesnil until 2016, that was the 2004 vintage. Not quite the same, excellent, but not on the level of the 79. Over the years, I've had the very rare chances to taste Krug vintages and Cuvees. Never disappointed honestly. But the sour taste for me is, I could have bought a couple of those 79 Clos du Mesnil at the time for about $200~ AUD. 😕 I couldn't afford that, it was a weeks pay. Now , if you can find one, it's about $10K AUD 😪

Sounds like Krug was a pioneer in establishing the NV (non vintage) bottling by combining several vintages. Also looks like Krug still does manual riddling where some of the houses have gone to a more automated process for riddling. The cuisine looked amazing! Thanks Alexander.
