This is actually a real problem that arises with simulator training. Pilots sometimes end up thinking that they can just reset real life if they don’t do the procedure right.

So I got a story. I got to go on a civil air patrol O-Flight, (which is kinda like a solo/instructor flight) I got to fly in a Cessna 162 and plan the turns, do coordinated turns and I got to set up an approach to our local airport. Most surreal aviation experience I’ve ever had. I hope you are reading this, Swiss, and I hope u get 1 million subs.

Nice video swiss, looks like some fun weather to flyin. You learn a lot when it's not always CAVOK. A tip for your map drawing, it could be an idea to laminate or get some transparent bookcover paper and cover your map in that, then it is easier to draw on with a black marker and easy removal.

You can do that with GPS, too. A turboprop was being delivered from North America to New Zealand. The GPS didn’t have a database for the area so the pilots had to program the waypoints manually. One of the waypoints was programmed with west instead of east longitude because it was close to the date line. The crew got to it and expected to talk to an terminal controller in New Zealand, but they could barely communicate with them. Then they realized they were hundreds of miles away from landfall. An emergency was declared and the coast guard was alerted but they managed to make the airport on fumes.

Did you use an mechanical E6B too or just plug it into ForeFlight? Doing ground speed checks and estimated time of arrivals with an E6B while in the air.. as well as checking drift and doing the open/close or double track method for course made good was probably the least enjoyable aspect of my PPL.

Dude! That's the problem with new pilots today, they just put things in the screen and follow directions, I was trained with old C152 and some classmates were like: "we have the GPS there, just put the destination"

You know, when I was learning to fly cross-country VFR in a C172, my instructor didn't let me use the GPS. Instead, he had me check a sectional chart, choose an airspeed, mark down waypoints along my flight path (e.g. where highways intersect with each other and/or the flight path, racetracks, lakes, towns), measure the distance between waypoints and whether they would be to my left or right, and calculate how long it would take to hit one after the other before reaching my destination. And I had to do all of that BEFORE checking the weather and NOTAMs, let alone taking off. It was slightly annoying that I had to jot down my waypoint times while I was actually flying - I mean, I need to stay focused - but it came in handy when I got to fly solo. Basically, in a nutshell, I first learned to fly cross-country VFR old-school. I didn't complain about using GPS because I wanted to be prepared in case my GPS goes out.
