I love your wife's honest reaction. She didn't really care for the bass separation she was hearing. To her, she heard bass sounds coming from one place and "music" coming from another place. Maybe you didn't have your sub and top speaker balanced out enough? Maybe you had the sub too loud and it was overpowering the top speaker. That's very important to have a balanced sound whether you're using a sub or not. The Maui definitely had a balanced sound and your wife immediately picked up on that. 😉

Take out the Maui’s for small / medium rooms. Take the 18” sub extra for centre fill or behind the booth for larger rooms. Run it from your booth output so you can adjust volume as required. BOOM !

Great video👍 I started with rcf j8s and loved them but eventually needed something a bit more powerful so got rcf art 915a’s and subs. Now selling the 915s as they sound so harsh I mean ear bleeding harsh unless you eq the hell out of them. Goin try the ld icoa system. Seems like good stuff👍👍

I think the RCFs midrange drivers are probably too small to fill in the lower midrange and that's why she hears them as "separate". I would guess that there's some sound information missing in the 90-200hz area. That's my assumption without hearing them in person. 5" is small (although my wife never complained lol). I would be curious how you both would think it sounds to run it to the sub then to the Maui's.

Thanks for the video. Fwiw, I would think that a good 15' sub would work better with the 515's and wouldn't create that "seperation" she was talking about, but I could be wrong. Can't wait for the next part :) Thanks again !

surely those tops arre too small to pair with an 18" sub ,you would need 12" tops to get the full mid range. also, regarding the maui . anythign can have enough bass when you have 2 people in an empty garage...but stick 200 or 300 people in there, that is where you will start to want the 18" sub.

Happy I found your channel! Appreciate all the reviews you do. I have a pair of the 28 G3's along with 2 ICOA 15's and 4 of the ICOA 18" subs. Love LD! But some of their products are very hard to get. Are you considering taking advantage of the the double sub feature (follower sub) that the Maui's offer? The 12" subs are very impressive and I feel doubling the subs or using them in cardioid mode would bring a whole new sound! Just a quick comment on this video, having a sub and a top will have that separate sound as your wifey described when close to the speakers, if you put distance between you and the speakers the sound will come together a little better, with the Maui's, that full sound leaves the speaker all at the same time, which is a sound I prefer for small or shallow venues that don't give you enough space. Thanks for the reviews! Have a great day!

Great job comparing these two! Dude! I’ve been rockin the Maui G3’s for over a month now in different sized rooms & have not been disappointed with the overall sound….still testing the limit of how far they will throw until I figure out when a bigger set up is more suitable Also depends on how many guests fill up the space, but so far they have really impressed me & I’ve had multiple people compliment the sound quality

Etc etc. I feel for me, the right set of 15’s is good enough. Especially under K12’s. I still like my HK Polar 12’s for most events under 150 though.

That sub had a boomy sound. So what you need to do is bring the xover point down. Generally at 80hz or lower you won't be able to tell which speaker the bass is coming from. You go from directional bass to omi-directional bass.

Man, i just picked the LD icoa 18a for under 1k and added it to my maui 28 G3s for larger rooms. Im I'm glad i didn't get the 44s. The 28s are lighter and can handle any room but lack on bass in the larger rooms. That's where the LD icoa 18 comes into play. All i can say is, wow. It sounds like a totally different system. I can reduce the limit light from blinking on the 28s by turning the bass down a bit when using the icoa 18. One thing i do recommend is to run the 18 sub independently to control separately from everything. My mackie board has a dedicated sub input, but if yours dont, you can run the sub to the control room out and that will have its own volume

That ONE 18" sub is waaaayyyy better than 2 x TT808 (dual 8" sub 👎) ☺Cone area of one 18" is about the same as 2 x 12", so they should in theory be able to push about the same, of course depending on amp, dB, VC, etc etc, but usually 18" go deeper and 12" more punchy. The 12" in the 28 G3 has 3" voicecoil so imo a pretty nice driver👍 BTW when you are testing these speakers why dont you use your QSC mixer and the peq/geq to fine tune fx the TT515 where it drops in lower mid, the TT808 goes up to 300Hz you will get muddy bass doing that with an 18", you didn´t mention your x-over freq, but the TT515 probaply has problems getting down towards the crossover freq with enough volume without some extra eq´íng, that gives you that sub/top separated listening experience......and standing so close doesnt make it better 🙂 Mixing different subs is no good idea unless you crossover, and still some cancelation can occur around x-over freq. Check out Michael Curtis on YT www.youtube.com/@MichaelCurtisAudio - lots of info on his channel.

You really need a Bose sub and the other sub plus a processor to run the crossover and equalize levels. I sold the 18’s. I have four Sub2’s. They do a damn good job. Last wedding I had a room that had thick drapes on the ceiling that absorbed sound like crazy and glass walls. The hotel complained the bass was too much outside so I had to put them in cardioid mode. Really pushed them but got the job done. Always been curious about an 18 system though and how it stacks up.
