GG on 1.9-1.13 WR! I've been asking for this 1.9-1.13 split for a while (back when I was moderator), but I remember that this option was never considered due to the "absence of a speedrun community playing 1.9-1.13". Now I think it might deserve a split (pre1.9, 1.9-1.13, 1.14-1.15 and 1.16+)

I always assumed the overhauled end fight is the reason the category was split at 1.9, I don't see why there would be any confusion there. If you need a completely different set of strategies to complete a portion of the run it makes sense to separate it into its own category

pre1.11 has a worse hunger system, 1.12 doesn't let you craft beds with different wool types

There should be a few more category splits, 1.9-1.13 is way too different from 1.14 to be in the same category. Also 1.16.2-1.17 should be one because of the bartering changes. And 1.18 because villages are more rare, and you could have to dig up a long ways from the blind portal and dig down a long ways to get to the stronghold.

1.16.2+ and 1.18 would be a weird category split because there isnt any fundamental difference in how you can beat the game, as opposed to 1.9-1.13 where you dont have access to 1.14 pearl trades forcing you to do a mix of pre-1.9 and 1.14 strats making a unique run. 1.16.2+ runs don't have access to anything different than 1.16.1 runs, it just makes a lot of segments of 1.16 runs a lot slower. 1.18 is an incredible update, maybe the best they've ever released, it just doesn't change anything fundamental for speedrunning. It would be cool if eventually, some post 1.16.1 update DOES change enough to warrant a split, but I wouldn't say its happened yet, and I certainly don't ever think we'll be faster than 1.16.1
