Thing is you might actually need that solarite because of how tight Mindhawk's challenge gauntlet is. Extra build speed, extra supply, whatever - it's all going to make a huge difference (and by huge i mean give you like 2 seconds extra to win a mission)

How quickly those Stalkers got shredded I think is a good argument for the Zealot variants. That extra +1 shield/life armor can really make a difference. I think Centurion, Sentry and Annihilator is going to be a good composition for it's ability to tank in bursts as well as quickly remove big threats

The comment about "solar lance being the problem solver 4000" really highlights what I think is the biggest problem with all these mods that up the difficulty. Even if/when they try to buff the other options, or nerf solar lance, as we see here, that doesn't really change things. It just means less uses of solar lance, but it's still just solar lance because the alternatives can't really compete. Funnily enough, increasing the cost of solar lance only makes it worse, since that's LESS incentive to use other abilities while it's on cooldown, since you'll need the energy for it.

I'd consider making it low damage beams, with a big bonus to light, so that it's good Vs. clumps of zerglings/zealots/Marines, but not effective at killing buildings and overseers and such.

TBH, Grant himself said that the Challenge Gauntlet cheese you and you are supposed to cheese it back, so using the Solar Lance is fair game IMO

I remember I played through Synergy’s campaign and Solar Lance is nerfed to have 50 less damage per beam and weirdly enough that’s enough that orbital strike came out ahead in some cases. Point is maybe nerfing needs to be the damage since 200 per with the area it has is insanely strong

@@dipolartech Ther still is an orbital bombardment for singular targets, and it's not like there are no other tools to work with. The problem with solar lance is that it could solve almost anything by itself. Is it fun to play\watch challenges, that all have solar lance as best answer? I think no. Though Blizzard's intention was probably direct buff due to solarite cost as with pylon and pylon+guys, so it would make sense for solar to be stronger, but with higher cooldowns+cost you have to solve at least part of tasks by other means, and if you would have to build your army so you can solve it anyway - solar loses another part of it's value.

To LotV, its true that its feels like you are stuck on one base for very long, tho its not quite that bad if you look at the facts purely. You are stuck on one base for the entirety of Aiur. Skyshield you are on one base, Brothers in Arms you have two. Glacius *can* be two if you want to clear out the Taldarim. Shakuras is two on the first mission if you want to clear out the Zerg, two for the Temple Mission. Ulnar has two on the mission with the locks, and only one for the second macro mission. After that its two base by default (except the Purifier mission since those zergbases have little minerals and you get a bigger base at the start) sometimes as a natural, but mostly as something you need to clear out. - The issue with all of it is that some of the hardest missions are either some with only one base (LOOKING AT YOU, SPEAR OF ADUN!) or its so freaking inconvenient to get a second base, you might as well skip it and all of that combined with the time pressure on a lot of missions really skews the view overall. The campaign could have used some natural, easy to get, expansions.

This mission and the Glacius one, while you can clear the enemy base and grab it for yourself (and I like doing it), they're both short timed missions where clearing these bases is a big, unnecessary time commitment. By the time you build a big enough army to clear the enemy base, then build your own and your workers, you're half-way past victory. Actually for this mission the way you can win with just DTs very quickly, you actually win faster without expanding. So missions you can macro, from very early on, from two bases before the second half: - Brothers in Arms - Last Stand (which you end up spending the money on static defence, not an army) - Temple of Unification Out of 9 missions. For the second half: - Unsealing the Past, though you need to clear an enemy base. I see Grant frequently skipping this base - Purification has you mentioned has a slightly bigger main, so mostly one base - Steps of the Rite needs small clearing, but it's an easy clear. Hard to defend though. Again saw Grant skipping sometimes! - Rak'Shir. Even has some enemy bases you can grab after clearing, but you don't really need to clear these bases - Templar's Charge. You get barely a single base for this mission... - The Host. The big macro mission. Up to 4 bases woo - Salvation. Two bases the entire time So out of 16 build missions, you effectively macro for an army with more than 1 base a total of... 6 to 9 missions?

Also, there are two vanguards in the base on the laser mission. You are going to spend at least 20 supply taking that base, and you really do not have the time for it to pay off. You are usually around 6 minutes in before you get there, and it will take about two minutes to crack. You are looking at it not paying off until the 13 to 15 minute mark. You are just safer winning, although the two thousand or so extra minerals you mine could be helpful.

Considering the lack of exapansion bases in LOTV I think the amount of unit producing structures Grant tends to build is doing him a disfavour, i.e. 1 Base economy would be roughly enough to support 2 Gates 1 chrono'd Robo of constant production with 16 probes on minerals and full gas saturation. Each additional structure takes away momentum. That being said, maintaining ideal macro with the amount of things going on at once in this mission seems insane.

@@mendez6363 Yeah, issue is twofold. On one hand to get a comparable income of a mining base you'd constantly need a lot of extra pickups (~10mineral/2gas per minute). On the other hand on this mission there's only gas pickups. Rather treat the pickups as a way to bridge the gap until saturation is reached with the option for one extra facility as a "resource dump".

I do wish LotV had more missions with extra bases for gameplay fun, but at the same time it really does fit thematically that of course your army isn't gonna be huge and powerful and make big bases because you're playing as the last free minded protoss in existence and it really makes me feel that way.

Probably a combination of 'elimination is not 90 percent of the mission objectives anymore so no point taking the map' and 'it's easier to design difficulty and such if you know for sure what resources are available to players'.

With the last thrasher, you have two spores, two overseers, and a lot of reinforcements that are all in different locations so you can't clear them out with one solar beam (pretty sure even two is not enough). You simply can not afford to kill it so it is necessary to rush the objective instead.

Those challenge campaigns are the most fun ones, since single player strategy is a puzzle game in its core anyways. Tho every single point of solarite missed hurts my OCD like a stab of joint pain. I wish I could force myself to throw away any form of completionism and get a mindset of "you will have to be more creative later on", but for me it's unfortunately impossible.

Most of the times he uses it here are to clear one overseer, which you can do with orbital bombardment as well, for lower price and in quicker succession. Still, good video

It's crazy how much stalkers are nerfed indirectly with the buffed ai targeting armored and low hp targets instead of closest. Besides sky shield I really don't see any other mission where stalkers are good. Since that was the only mission where it was better to avoid the enemy than get stronger firepower.

yeah it shows how good their mobility is at keeping them alive normally, but with the increase in dps from ai targeting, people just can't micro fast enough. However, every unit has less value when the AI focus targets like this.

Also she does not really fulfill the role Blizzard claimed that she had. Which was being the "angel" on Jims shoulder to contrast Tychus, whom would be the "devil". Matt does the angel role a lot better considering he actually has disagreements with and never trusted Tychus to begin with. Matt only tolerates Tychus because Jim trusts him. Also regardless of your choice for Haven, Hanson leaves. Either on your own free will or in a body bag.
