I'm going to write and leave this here since far too many people either misconstrue the meaning of the video or see the title, show up, leave a hyper-original comment(usually involving something like "child" or "baby"), and then dip without ever even watching it or understanding its content. While these comments don't really bother me, it does sadden me to see people write off this piece do to a misconception or some other reason, as there's no real reason a community should split like this. Everyone should want the best for their game and for other players of the game's community. Even if you don't raid or care about raiding, which is completely fine, it still doesn't make much sense to rag on other players because they don't play the way you do. We are players too just like you, we just preferred to focus on different content than you, and there's nothing wrong with that. The point of this video isn't to "stick it to ZoS" or clap back at them in any way. I stated multiple times in the video that they do not care about their player base. Why would I ever make a video directed towards them with this in mind? "Announcing myself leaving for clout" is also not the point. I haven't uploaded to this channel in years, and have no serious plans to going forward. If I wanted clout that badly, I would've been chasing it long before I made this. The point of this video is to share my experiences with the game as a player, to share what I have learned about the game and its developers and community, to express my many issues with the game and how it has evolved over time, and to ultimately show the conclusion that I had reached after all the time I have spent playing. There is no point in making a video calling out ZoS, they do not care. I can however possibly influence players to have a different understanding of the game going forward and to provide caution to those who are thinking of playing this game. I possibly can also be an example to people who feel like they are obligated to keep playing the game to finally leave themselves, and to show them that you don't have to trap yourself through sunk cost fallacy. "Why deconstruct everything? You're only hurting yourself, this is pointless. Just take a break and come back in a couple years when you feel like playing again." I didn't just pointlessly deconstruct everything. You can see me trading everything, gold and materials, to a friend who does still play the game. Now granted, there is a good chance I still would've deleted everything on my account anyways if I didn't trade to a friend. One of the reasons is to ensure that I never get the urge to return and fool myself into thinking the game has changed only to be disappointed and frustrated all over again. During my time playing, there has been a constant cycle where the developers will improve the game a bit, and then a couple patches later start tanking the game all over again. I cannot trust a company that places all of their resources on complacency and monetization schemes instead of improving the game, and I will never return to it. "Of course you're gonna get bored, all you do is one thing!" I don't know how this came about. I focused on one thing, that doesn't mean its the only thing I do. I had stated that I would sometimes do dungeons whether it be veteran or hard mode runs, random normal farming, or gear farming; I would PvP, I would do specific quests to gain more skill points to make my toons more flexible, I would level new toons and complete sky shard and lore book runs on them, I even started doing some housing towards the end since I had accumulated a large sum of gold from running with carry services. I focused on raiding because it was the most enjoyable and the most rewarding to me, despite how little rewards were offered. Questing quickly became boring since it offered basically 0 reward outside of a handful of things including the Tamriel Hero title(plus I didn't find the story all that interesting or enjoyable), dungeons were ok when I didn't grow tired of them from constantly farming my random normals every day, and PvP was fun when it worked. Trials for me were the most interesting and engaging part of the game. I also never grew bored of them, I only grew more and more fed up with the constant negative game-altering changes that the development team kept pushing through. Trials were fun till the end. This wasn't made as a "that'll show them!" type of video, nor was it made to complain for the sake of complaining. It's here as a commentary piece on what the game has been to many players like myself and what the game has come to over time. Hopefully this clears things up a bit and helps people see the point I'm trying to make in a better, or at least different, light.

It was constant gear grind that did me in. I would have roughly fifteen to twenty hours a week I could actually spend playing, and it felt like every time I finally got a full set of gear to replace the gear that just got reworked and my class skills got changed, and it would ruin my build. Then I'd have to go and grind a newer different set, to make a new build with the new gear, or old reworked gear that now worked for my build in the way the gear I was using no-longer did, and then they'd rework that gear in a hotfix or update, and I'd have to start all over again. No one wants to grind a dungeon several dozen times or more praying to RNG for the gear you need only to finally get it, waist your rare resources raising it's quality, and then have it changed and reworked the next day. I got to a point where my gear was becoming obsolete faster than I could farm it, and I had to take a long hard look at the time I spent playing the game, and realize I wasn't doing any of the new story content, or my daily's, or even spending time with player friends, because my only method of play, was login que for specific dungeon and pray for gear, on repeat, the same dungeon, to the point where I mentally checked out and felt like I wanted to go back to work so I could enjoy myself. When I started realizing I was having more fun at work, than I was playing a game, I knew it was time to quit playing ESO.

Just remember that letting go of old parts of yourself (while it feels very empty at first) will make room for new parts of yourself to grow. Sorry the game did this like you man, unfortunate turn of updates, but overall this video radiates positivity because there's potential to learn that sometimes letting go of an attachment (especially one this big coming from fellow soul gamer) is what needs to happen before you start leveling up on the cosmic scale, not just the mmo scale. I came to most of the same conclusions a couple years ago after logging almost 15,000 hours in ESO since 2014 PC launch. I had all PvE content on farm, played with most of the best players on PC-NA up to that point, and also had enjoyed PvP for years as well. I had most "meaningful achievements" in both (even Cyrodiil Emperor from before the days of just "emp trading" in a dead campaign). Today, my account still just sits idle. I didn't go "scorched earth". But, I can't disrespect your decision and suspect that most people who do just simply haven't played at that level long enough to see what some of us have seen all too plainly. Best to you in whatever you do moving forward.

^ Yep. I mean, I understand the community's frustration with the devs, the state of game and how the devs treat veteran players in general. They have their right to be frustrated but personally I keep my expectations low and just find a way to make the most out of the game which is how I treat all the games I buy. I guess that's just me though - not too casual of a player that I'm not learning something like how to solo vet content but not too hardcore either that I'm too keen on DPS numbers down to the decimal. Haven't done raids yet so my opinion may change.

@@jujubear9909 honestly the raid community is exhausting. they all think they are gods gift to the game. and unless you have every hard mode/trifecta clear in the game you have to run with the people on the struggle bus who absolutely think rele/nirn is the best setup for someone doing portals in VCR and man they couldnt be more wrong and you cant tell them differently. getting in groups as an outsider is an absolute chore.

Good luck and I hope you find a game you really enjoy! I’ve felt the burnout from the gear and combat changes along with the lack of rewards in game but the steady flow of crown store stuff that’s really cool. After looking at how much I’ve spent over the past several years on crown crates, I’ve decided to not play ESO as much anymore. I might login for events but those have become stale. Same lame rewards each year with one new addition. I love the company and the employees, but the game has become overly monetized and that’s not good for my addictive behavior.

I laud your efforts to play as long as you did and support other players. I posit most things in life, like ESO, eventually become old, busted, or boring, whether a game, an automobile, or a job. I maintain that many, if not most players, will eventually max out their playing abilities and characters such that the game seems boring, as you note. This plateau may transpire over many years on its own or may be aggravated by "challenges" in devs managing game design and application, as we have seen this past year. Some players enjoy the game for years and progress relatively slowly while others peak in less than one year. I assert that a negative or positive view of game progression is a matter of perspective that differs widely amongst players. Hats off to you for graduating and elevating to new heights, wherever that may be. I suggest you start over and learn to play with one eye and/or one hand as a new challenge and see how that takes! I'd like to see that. Cheers mate.

I cancelled about three Month ago for quiet the same reason.... ESO is so down SO much and got just Bad and boring in a Lot of facetts. Absolutely agree with u. It's such a shame because i LOVED this Game so much for over 4 Years. After Summerset/Elsweyr it got downwards SO fast and bad.... And don't speak of fckn Performance. My last Trifectas was Godslayer but alone because of Performance that makes Progging so hard i really can't Imagine wasting my time anymore. But the real reason was the Update 35 Changes or WHAT they tried to Push through. As an Endgame/Progression Raider i feel still SO insulted. What they try to do was just a slap in the face. And from that Point i lost any Intension to put anything in this Game anymore. Quitting before Update 35 (or Order 69) was the best decision. And THAT Hurts ne because i actually love the pillars of this Game. All the best to you!

100% of this is true. And the game is even worse for casual players: - Casual players can really only do quests and random dungeons. And both of those are terribly unfun - The quests have some of the worst writing ever in a game. It is all extremely bloated. "Please, help me fix my leaky roof. But first, let me tell you the history of leaky roofs". They never shut up. Ever. And they all repeat themselves 5 times per subject matter. All suspense from the story is gone since their diatribes never end. It is unbearable to listen to. I say that as someone who goes deep into stories and listens to all dialogue in games. ESO is terribly written. - The open world combat for casual players is horrible. It is so easy that you could basically AFK anywhere and tank the entire zone. That is what it feels like. My 68 year old mom played the game for 2 months. She is barely a gamer at all and she is terrible at game combat. Even SHE thinks that ESO combat is extremely boring and requires zero interesting mechanics. You are basically immortal in the overland content. It makes everything boring. There is zero challenge.

I am going to burn down my mortgage fully paid house and dump nuclear waste on the plot then start saving for a new house, to teach real estate agents a lesson... Your actions did nothing to ZOS, they have your money, an exponential amount of new buyers have purchased the game, all you accomplished is burning your own time and money, I did not search for this vid, I watched Nefas comment on it weeks ago, the Algorithm placed me here, so now I am commenting. Yes the game is bugged, but so is every other 8 year old game that has new coders trying to rewrite the back end while players still play and corporate still demands quarterly content drops. Yes the combat is cuckoo bananas, because the team changes every 5 minutes because if they change 1 thing the community bites their head off making them hack away at the carefull calculations they made for week1 of a PTS or whatever. You have probably started a new MMO and at the 8 year mark will be screaming about "Classic" or some "Level crush" or something else, we sign on to MMO's knowing from day 1 it will be a wild and dynamic ride.

@Stargold72 жыл бұрын
This must have been really hard to do, especially for someone who put so many hours and effort into the game, but you absolutely hit the nail on the head of the all things currently wrong with ESO: the roller-coaster combat changes, the horrible performance, the lack of rewards (and like you said 'the insultingly low-effort in-game rewards'), the aggressive monetization, and most of all, the tone-deaf developers. I'd only recommend ESO to someone who would be interested solely in questing and could find it on sale, but getting to endgame pve or pvp would only lead to frustration. It's such a pity because this game has so much potential, having one of the best combat systems out there, but the developers seem like they want to destroy everything good about it (and I do think it's because of lack of resources, especially in the last couple of years because the studio is working on another project). We've had a gamebreaking block bug for a month now, and it's still not fixed, ruining trial progs, and making pvp really frustrating, block not working in another MMO would be prioritized asap, but in ESO it will maybe get fixed two months later, if we are lucky. Anyway, thank you for sharing this the video, though it was probably really upsetting to make, but you talked about this very constructively and without bias or drama, and I only hope ZOS sees what they are doing is driving long-time loyal players away, and will lead to the demise of the raiding community eventually.
@lordbane56272 жыл бұрын
At this point, they've destroyed pretty much everything that makes this game a "MMO" (things that involve multiple players). The PvP community died years ago, and now they're killing the end game PvE community off too. Pretty soon all it's going to have left is questing, which you might as well be playing Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim at that rate... Oh and Roleplay, but Roleplay communities tend to thrive in games that are successful and have other big communities for RP'ers to recruit from, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's on the decline too.

I was recently able to buy the game after 2.5 years of looking from the sidelines, and am genuinely enjoying the game at the moment. I play solely for the lore exploration and have made a self-promise to never go for premium crown store subscription. I aim to play it slowly and over a few years, with only buying the expansions and that too after I finish almost 60% of all that I own. But seeing this video makes me realise that there exists a quite jarring rabbit hole which might be easy to get sucked into, since all the crown store stuff is so shiny and eye-catching. I am thankful to the author for being warned in advanced, and will try to just patiently build up my characters. I do hope for him to find a greater comfort in exploring other aspects of life, and that the dejection he feels for all these 3600 hours spent there may turn into a faded but nostalgic memory.
