For the holes under your house instead of foam use steel wool! This works wonderful around pipes...use a screwdriver and stuff steel wool in all cracks! Hope this helps you!

I made the baking soda mix and it did work BUT.. they would die elsewhere and my house smelled like dead rat for days until I could locate it like all the way under my stove and cabinet, in the back of my son's closet, under his bed that had drawers and is extremely heavy to move.. In the beginning I was trying to catch and release, to be humane, but after 6 months, and my son waking to one climbing up on him in his bed,im done playing nice. I'm going to try the bucket method.. the rats have now destroyed my fridge and dishwasher by eating through the hoses..

You have some terrific tips. I had the same problem and spent hundreds on traps and mass marketed baits. Ratx/Mousex didn't work in its natural form, so I used a grinder (mortar and pestle) and ground it down to powder. I then added a cup of peanut butter and a cup of cocoa powder to three cups of ground ratx/mousex. That worked for a while, though expensive. I moved to a more economical approach and now use one cup peanut butter, one cup cocoa powder, one cup borax and three cups baking soda. I mix this until it's flaky or add a slight amount more peanut butter to the consistency that the powder mix doesn't break apart. I use borax to keep the ants and other insects from stealing the bait. As for mouse traps and peanut butter. I use a mixture of one cup peanut butter and one cup borax. Ants and other insects will take the bait if you use peanut butter with no other additive and you'll assume the mouse took it. Using borax in the mix will eventually kill off any other insect population in the vicinity and the mouse traps will still be baited until a mouse is caught. I also clean my mouse traps with deodorizer after a rodent is caught and alternate the traps.

@@pinemeadowshobbyfarmafruga8319 That's unfortunate for the spiders, I prefer keeping them around. I forgot to mention if you want to locate where they're nesting obtain 8oz or more of UV-reactive pigment. The pigment works best indoors and will help locate a rodent's circulation. They will also ingest it and you'll have UV-reactive turds. This helped me locate access points that I had missed and what areas I need to clean and replace. I need to purchase a different color of UV-reactive pigment this time to make sure they're eradicated. The pigment is messy, it's a particulate, and I usually wear latex gloves and a mask when handling it.

Same here Clark. I have spend hundreds on all kinds of traps (including the electric shock track that hasn't worked so far), I have tested all kinds of different food to attract the mice as well. I am just glad I found out about the baking soda method (I have a large basement where I have seen mice, so setting traps all over would be a challenge). I just spread some bait with the baking soda in a few spots that I have seen them. I hoping it works.

Hello. Great video. Try this one: 5 gallon bucket. Fill halfway with water. Add black oil sunflower seeds. Enough to cover water and give the appearance of a half a bucket of yummy seed. A ramp, such as your 2x4 will work. Peanut butter at top of ramp with seed adhered to peanut butter blob. The rat will see seed, jump in to feed and drown. Good luck Tom lynch

for anyone trying the bucket method, don't use a narrow steep ramp like in this video. I bought the flip and slide lid and use a 5 gallon bucket. But I don't think the lid is high enough to get a Rat to slip throught it into the bucket. (the Flip and Slide lid is more for mice). The way I got a rat to feed from the top of the bucket is I built a ramp out of different level empty boxes, books and then I put old blankets on top of the boxes, so the rat could easily climb up to the top of the bucket, and leave small amount of food bait like dried cat or dog food on the ramp to attract it upward). What made me think of this Idea is this one determine rat started climing my mountain of empty boxes in spare room to get to the dry cat food (I was storing it in a box to keep it away from kitchen area, so he must have smelled it). I still haven't killed rat, but at least it is feeding from the bucket now (before the bucket sat with the narrow ramp for 2 months and no mice or rats ate from the bucket lid, no matter what bait I used).

I found two traps with mice in our storage under the main part of the house. After searching for a while found a dirt hole they had dug to get under our driveway which leads right into storage. So I used expando foam to fill the dirt hole. For some reason they won't try to dig thru expando foam. Anyway, best way to fight rodents is to block entry into house, around perimeter & block entry on roof. If you have a whirlybird - gizmo that spins to pull air out of attic, you need to put heavy duty screen material inside, because they can slip between the whirlybird & the round metal opening. I found that out the hard way. Also, DO NOT keep cat food or dog food in storage. Also with Snap Traps, 1/2 way cook bacon & stuff it inside the middle bait opening. They cannot resist bacon & as they try to pull the bacon out, the trap will snap shut. Takes a few minutes to kill them though. The more they struggle, the more it collapses their small lungs & zing they're gone. I usually use a pellet rifle to finish them off.

15:53 is the start of the recipe. Use rubber gloves when handling all of the ingredients, according to a lot of the comments. The comments section is very informative. Thank you very much for producing this video. Lots of Desert Rats out here in AZ waiting to be encouraged to leave in one way or another. They really like devouring automobile wiring under the hood here in the southeast corner of the state. Lots of people just open their hood and leave it up all the time. I guess they don't like the light. 😊 👍

They like motorcycle wiring as well...ask me how I know. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this....snakes like motorcycles too. Took my super bike out one day for a rip and as soon as I got the tires warm I took off, ran her up to around a 100mph and went to slow down for a curve coming up, I looked down to see how fast I was going and there was a 2ft long snake coiled around my instrument cluster, cables and wires. Immediately I threw my hands up in the air and managed to slow down (hands free) and I eased over to the right and just before I came to a stop, I reached down grabbed the clutch, hit the brakes and was sliding the kick stand down all in one motion. Then jumped off and got back a few feet and then let some colorful words fly. I do not like snakes at all....come to find out when I got home and with further investigation, I found out that the mice had made a nest under my seat and chewed my wiring harnesses. The snake was looking for the mice and I never knew it was down inside the underneath side of my seat and around the engine....that is.... until I was going 100mph. Good thing it was a rat snake. I pulled over and couldn't find the dang thing no where...I was taking off my small windshield and other things too trying to find it. Then I decided to leave my bike idling (It was 90 degrees that day) and let the engine get hot, after about 2 minutes it came out, fell on the road and shot off into the tall grass beside the road.

I've had problems with rats in and around my home, I'll definitely give baking powder/soda, cornflour and chicken stock, cocoa powder/sugar mixture a try. Like yourself, I've tried all manner of traps, that the rats are now trap shy to, poisons and baits, but nothing really worked. I've bait diminished the rat population and fir a few weeks, we didn't hear them, but they're back. I'll comment back with results. Also like you, I wasted time making the spinning can, baited with good stuff, but that was a complete loss. I did catch 19 rats with traditional break back traps, but none for almost 3 weeks. Baking powder tomorrow and hopefully, we'll be rid of these pests before Christmas!

I congratulate you! I had some mice issues before. First was mice in basement, they used the central AC pipe to hose and oil tank nossle space in plywood. I used calling mixed with s.o.s. and I still had the old school banned dcon mice pellets [wish I still did] I caught 3 in glue traps , killed 4 with poison. They died in a.dark corner. I fixed it in a week. I than had mice in my shed, I used 1 x 8 native pine boards for siding and boards had gaps . I CAULKED the entire SHED. Tons of work, lol. Lucky I scored a case of amazing commercial grade caulking for free. Glue trap killed 4 mice, never a problem. NOW I saw my first RAT 🐀 In my garage! I had it really cluttered after a house remodel. I think it took 3 weeks of my neglect and having my Camaro parked for snow and winter. They got under my garage door, not sealing. I looked in a old drawer I was using to.store all my extra sweat shirts, I didn't look in drawers for about 3 weeks. When opened drawers looking for a t shirt! I saw each drawer had a nest!! No rats. But huge droppings in all three drawers and piled up trash debris [oh yeah, my teenagers left trash bags in garage when I was on a business business trip, I cleaned up and figured it was a squirrl, squirrels have done that] no it was a gross rat 😢. I removed the drawer and cleared my garage COMPLETELY!! Filled my Nissan Titan with all the clutter.. took me 12 straight hours to.clear my garage. I did see the rat runaway the night I discovered nests,HUGE. Next day after all clean. I left a dish with RATX mixed with seedless sunflower seeds on a Styrofoam plate. He crapped all-around the plate, lol. And ate most of it! I also taped glue traps to the floor. No rat , but a mouse. I than paid a garage door guy to replace my garage seal. Now garage has no entry. NO more poop. BUT I was seeing mice or baby rats, scurry In out of my outdoor precast cement HOLLOW front stairs. I dug around to get in. I left tons of baits for a few days. Than emptied 3 cans of rodent [TOMCAT] SPray under the stares!. Next day mice or tiny rats were scurrying in DAYLIGHT, probably desperate to escape the horrible mint scent 😂. I think they had pups under there? They finally gave upand no site! I also sprayed under my other shed, baited as well. And moved fire wood pile much further away. Restocking and spraying layers with the mint. Also sprayed mint under cars. I think milder winters are 😢keeping more alive? The mix of sunflower seeds [no shells) with Ratx I think killed the rats? Got lucky maybe they didn't have a litter. I removed all old mulch around house, I stuffed trap rock under stairs. Best I could, I now only have stone gravel, NEVER Mulch again. I lost 3 weekends to VERMIN 😢

I have tried everything like you have. I tried the traps & I always put on gloves like someone advised in the comments. I could catch a mouse or too but never a rat. I tried the live trap & to see on my surveillance cam, a rat stuck his dirty hand in there & tripped it. They wouldn't go near it again. My cat is afraid of the rats like I am too. Oh & yeah the decon thing with the poison brick, nothing. I finally called a pest control who put glue traps down & poison packs. I told them I already tried glue traps & the rats are way too smart for them. And I was afraid my cat might get into those poison packs. They charged me money I didn't have only to make things worse. I've tried the rubber band trap, the one that supposed to electrocute them, & all kinds of bait poison. I can't wait to try this. I only have success with the more expensive poison on paper plates in rooms shut off from my pets. But I can put this anywhere. Is there a reason you keep the lid on the container? Is that from keeping other animals from eating it up? You don't know how thankful I am for your video. I am at the end of my rope here & can't afford to keep purchasing things that don't work. My Mom always kept a small bowl of Coke a Cola in her chicken house. Worked great on mice & rats for the same reason as the baking soda. Coke was the only soft drink that would work for her. I like this mix better than coke. Headed to Dollar General shortly to get some more baking soda.

Thanks so much doing this video!!! We haven't ever had a rodent problem in 17 years until...neighbors a few houses on one side were told by CE to clean up and our neighbors to the other side took down an old trailer at the same time. I guess since we are in the middle, we got the mice. At first I thought they were cute....lol....now they are just taking over and pooping and stinking up the whole chicken and duck area. It's disgusting. I'm genuinely concerned that they may make the birds sick or bite them. My hubby is trying the water bucket thing tonight LOL, but I may try the baking soda and flour dishes tomorrow as well.

The chickens actually hunt and eat the mice. I've seen it. There's quite a bit of footage on yt showing this. So don't be at all worried that the mice will be a threat to the chickens, it is is the other way around! I'm not too sure about the ducks but it wouldn't surprise me either to find that they too would attack and eat the mice. I've seen wild herons also hunting and eating rats - whole!!

Great video! I am curious what brand of Game camera you use? I have ducks and chickens, so I also wage a constant battle against vermin. Things that I have found useful is to use a bit of bacon grease to sweeten the bait. If I put a few pounds of the poison blocks or pellets in a 1 gallon plastic bag with 1/4 cup of warm bacon grease and squish it around to cover the blocks or pellets completely, it really seem to increase the rate that the poison disappears. I have also had success just greasing the inside of the bait container with bacon grease with a napkin. Just the smell of bacon makes them eat anything. I have also had good luck with "cheese whiz" the can of squirt cheese. I get blocks of rat poison that has a little hole in the middle of each block. Then I put a squirt of cheese into the hole in each block. I agree with OPEN EYES WIDE. Wearing gloves when setting the traps make a lot of difference and washing your traps between uses. The wooden based traps can be harder to wash the smell off but the plastic, metal and wire traps are easy. Purple power degreaser works great. Every new trap I bought seemed to work great, once. Then I would catch nothing for 6-8 months in that trap. After my buddy told me to wash the traps, They might catch something every week. I am going to buy a 5lb bag of baking soda today. Thanks and good luck.

In my area of NW Washington State, we have mostly the Black Rat (Rattus rattus) and occasionally the Norway rat. These varmints often burrow into and under things like my compost pile. Anytime I see one of their tunnels I go for them with road flares whose smoke is very toxic. I have a little battery-operated fan I use to push the smoke down the tunnel entrance. The smoke will come up through several hidden bolt-holes. This method is very effective and isn't harmful to any other animals. Also, it makes disposing of the carcasses easy since they're all underground already.

It's unfortunately empty of nutrients - like if you ate kinda protein cereal every day no matter how clean it is it's gonna be kinda farty and ugh. Wet Food has unfortunately low protein and fat too - The Ultimate Solution! So simple truely so easy. Brown Eggs - Cooked or Raw - Brown eggs usually aren't from commercial farms because white eggs sell better - so they don't have any bacteria Cheaper than dog food or at least cheap truely cheap - an egg or two a day for a Doggy will let it Live a LOT LONGER - and STRONGER and LESS SMELLY Another super easy Dog thing - Give them Kibble if you have it in a Bowl with Water!!! Like Cereal! They like Cats are geared to get all their water from Blood from eating meat - so they will engulf a ton of water they normally wouldn't drink until later

I use glue boards, they have multiple sizes available. Of course where I use them are at vacation homes, homes that are empty more than not. In the garages, shops, outbuildings, sheds, etc. I catch mice, pack rats, small snakes, lizards, and all sorts of bugs. They are all pests where I'm at and I doesn't matter if a few die especially the ones inside causing havoc. If you have a really big problem, I glue like 20 or more boards to a bigger piece of cardboard or similar and now you have a huge glue board. Then you can simply cut away the glued piece and leave the rest. I have had success with this many times. And the big flat square squirrel traps works good here as well. I've caught many ground and rock squirrels at the same time, as many as 7 at once. I also use the water bucket with 50% success, it has to be maintained often and does not work in winter months as well when the water freezes. These pests are a huge problem in southwest NM. Definitely going to try your method as this would be so much easier than any of my methods

If you have rats in the attic and can't figure out the entry point, try this I got 6 people to stand around my house. I went into the attic and set off a bunch of roach foggers. This got them to flip out and running to escape. A couple of people around the house saw how they were getting in and out. I then stuffed the holes with stainless steel pads, filled with foam, and fastened steel mesh over the entrance. Yes, it might have been a little overkill 😂. But I have had 0 activity in over a year. Also trim branches away from your home. They often live in oak trees and visit at night. Mint, mothballs, ultrasonic repellents, etc DO NOT WORK! Large sticky traps, snap traps, and live traps are extremely effective to remove the ones trapped after sealing the home. After sealing mine, I setup 20 traps in the attic and caught 3 over the next week. I still have all 20 setup, but not 1 has gone off in over a year.... I am rambling, but if you have a problem, take care of it ASAP! They will chew wires, and you better pray they don't learn that your PEX pipes are a water source! It was cheap and easy for me to replace the pipes, but the water cleanup was hell!

We have had at least one rat in our workshop for the last couple weeks (though i know where there's one there's usually more but we've only seen the one) and so far we've tried snap traps and some type of poison that isn't toxic to other animals but nothing has worked yet. It was definitely attracted to the dog food we keep in there seeing as it chewed holes in the bucket we kept it in. We brought the food inside and made sure it's only food source was the poison so it would actually eat that instead of the dog food but it's still very much alive. It's actually very cute and I hate killing anything, but it's got to go for reasons everyone already knows. One of our dogs smells EVERYWHERE it's traveled and goes nuts looking for it. I wish she'd just be able to catch it. One good shake and it would be over for that rat before it knew what hit it. That's about as quick and humane as a death can be. I just mixed up a big batch of the baking soda concoction and even added a little dog food since it loves it so much so hopefully that takes care of the one we know about and any others that may be around.

Copied from my above post, so that it would show up in your feed. Peanut butter mixed 50/50 with baking soda, and add some old candle wax shavings. The fine mesh on a cheese grater works perfect for getting small wax shavings. For the barn I would have moved all of the animals out for a few hours, completely sealed the barn, and run a generator inside until it died. Uses up all the oxygen and fills the place with carbon monoxide which even gets into wall spaces... Kind of a poor man's whole house fumigator that professionals use when they tent a house. Vent the house well, as the carbon monoxide will kill anything that breathes air, including you and your pets. The exhaust smell will vent fairly quickly. Don't forget to seal and then vent any attic spaces. The good thing about the peanut butter mix is that they love it and it can be rolled into balls and scattered around any space without any powder mess or making boxes - very similar to rat poison blocks, but mostly harmless to pets... mostly harmless, because it will temporarily reduce stomach acid strength affecting digestion for a meal, so you don't want them to get into it every day.

Thanks for this; I'm in Australia...we've had lots of rain recently and I have four old chickens who apparently don't mind sharing their food with pigeons, magpies, and an occasional gala, bush turkey and who knows what else? I had no idea how many rodents were also visiting until these last rainy days but I also have an adopted cat (we're the adoptees) and I have caught the chickens eating small mice before so I definitely didn't want to use a poison that would harm the other critters. This idea is perfect and has the extra bonus of how to keep it dry! Hadn't got that far. My son built me a herb garden up high and I started some lettuce in it and I was really ticked off when I found three small heads gone, just gone. Have to fix it today so thank you heaps.

I used the baking soda mix and that seems to have decreased the population. The most reliable are large glue traps and it only requires the rats to walk across it and get stuck. Usually they are dead by morning from exhaustion trying to get free of the glue, but those that are still alive a good medieval dunking in water finishes them off.

I don't have a farm, but I live in the Mountains, in the middle of nowhere in the woods near Glacier, WA. I've had a lot of luck with Peppermint oil! One night I sprayed some under the tarp in my backyard that covers my kayak and bike. 5 min later I see 2 mice running across the CENTER of my yard, running away from the house! They never run in the Middle of Anywhere! So, now, before I go to sleep, I spray peppermint oil all over the kitchen and anywhere that I think they are getting into the house. OR I use the peppermint oil to herd them to a specific room where I have my live trap! It works like a charm! I put 30-60 drops in a large spray bottle of water. Did you know that they can find their way back from 3 miles away!? So I drive them across the bridge that's 1 mile away. That way they can't get back to my house unless they are smart enough to cross the bridge (nope!). I've had a lot of luck with the peppermint! It bothers some older people with lung issues but for most people it just smells nice!! --- I had luck with the bucket! I caught a rat, I didn't even know I had rats! A month later I saw that a dress was eaten through, most likely from that rat cuz there were 1.5" black hairs! So, now I spray peppermint all over the inside of the house. I even use it in the doorway when I need to open the doors in the summer. They hate peppermint because it messes with their sense of smell! This guy Shawn Woods has a lot of great ideas! You can't get the Victor Peppermint anymore, at least not on Amazon. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX_Ef3p-lM2he6c

Thank ypu for such a thorough and informative video! As a vet, however, I feel compelled to correct one thing, that was mentioned, regarding the physiological capabilities of rats, and mice. Contrary to your claim, rats and mice do, in fact, possess the ability to pass gas, but they lack the ability to burp or vomit. The inability to burp or vomit, is an extremely rare trait, which is limited to select, few species, throughout the animal kingdom. The reason behind this, for mice and rats, stems from their bodily structure, consisting of a longer esophagus, than that which is present, across most other species. As a result of the increased length of the esophagus, complications, then, arise, with the reflux mechanism, responsible for producing these particular functions. In my experience with these animals, baking soda, and other similar products, tend to actually yield mixed results, with limited success rates, and, even, in the case of successful elimination of the animals, they still cause slow, drawn-out, and painful deaths. The bicarbonate in the product, mixes with the stomach acid, which results in a buildup that eventually leads to intestinal blockage. rupture, and, on occasion, death; however, it is unlikely that ingesting these products, one, single time, will ever be effective in yielding the desired, fatal result. It normally takes repeated meals of such products, followed by a waitkng period of 1-3 weeks, before enough of a buildup, has been accumulated within the system, to potentially result in a fatality. Throughout this time frame, the mouse, or rat, will be experiencing a significant, and unbearable level of pressure, discomfort and pain, so although this method does stand a chance at effectively eliminating these unwelcome creatures, the, overall, success rate is still rather low, there is profound suffering involved, and it lacks the ability to produce instantly gratifying results! Nonetheless, I am glad to see that you were successful in eradicating your problem with infestation! I'm sorry if my comment has come across as being harsh, or rude, in any way. I certainly mean you no disrespect, and just want to ensure that everyone is presented with the correct data. Upon researching this subject, one will be met with a broad array, of conflicting claims, and results, so it has, simply, been my intention, to pinpoint the information, that is, in fact, true and accurate!🙃🙂

A number one and a half steel trap placed along walls works great. Wire trap to a cinder block half or large rock. Block against trap to form passage over the trap. Have trap so they are going between jaws not over them. Bed of trap is parallel with wall. No bait. They like to run along the wall.
