I Got SCAMMED After Spending 4 Hours Cleaning This Property

Most of you recall me doing a 2 part cleanup on this property, but what you don't realize is that I got scammed by this listing agent. Before becoming a full time content creator, I depended on my lawn care business to sustain me financially. Early spring, I bid this job super low just to get money to pay for my bills. I finished the job and sent the customer an invoice expecting her to pay during her net term. 15 day net term expires, and still no payment. I contact her and she doesn't pick up her phone.
Now this isn't the first time such thing has happened to me, as i've ate over a thousand dollars of unpaid invoices in my 4 years in business. After a couple months of not recieving payment, I decided to give up. Over the course of that year, I changed my phone # and decided to call her # again. This time she picked up!! I told her that she has an unpaid invoice that's been overdue since spring. Of course came all the excuses in the world of why the $200 and some dollar invoice was unpaid. At the end of the conversation, she had the audacity to tell me that the new owner is responsible for paying the invoice.
When I heard that, I chuckled and told her that that's not what we agreed upon. To make a long story short, she declined paying and I was left in the dust. I called the new homeonwer with the # provided and told them exactly what had just happened. Let's just say that they didn't like her either... They said they we're willing to pay, but at that point I was doing well financially so I kindly declined.
Moral of the story, be careful of who you deal with in life & in business. They might sound real nice over the phone, and even complement your work after you finish, but end up ghosting you and not paying their invoices. Hope you enjoy this cleanup. Same thing happened to my husband! She said she was an agent and had several properties near us (Wilmington NC) and would guaranteed 3-5 jobs a week in the off season, he has his own 20 customers that he's done the last 5 yrs, and did not need her, but bc she kept insisting and after several months of telling her no, my husband accepted. She sent him a contract, names, addresses and what needed to be done. She was somewhere in Ohio. Sent an upfront personal check for $100 and would pay him when he sent before and after pictures and he would be paid weekly... he done this for 4 weeks, 1st week was good, but then she just up and disappeared too... I contacted the customers and they had found her on craigslist and sent 4 month payment up front to her (Sept 1st- Dec 31st 2020) after speaking to them they had no idea he was not paid and well I reported her and the "company" to BBB. She had sent a stolen check from an elderly widowed woman and well it was a huge SCAM for all parties... we will never use an agent again!!

In Canada, there is a code of ethics that licensed realtors must abide by. You at the least should report her to the realtors association for them to discipline her, plus take her to small claims court to get your money back, plus court fee. You represent yourself, and it is made to deal with disputes exactly like this. Do you have either of these options available to you where you live? You could also advise her you are going to post on Facebook exactly what she did and use her name. As long as you are completely truthful and accurate, she can’t sue you for defamation or libel, etc. People who pull shady tricks like this need to have a bright spotlight shone on them. No realtor in their right mind wants to have bad publicity floating around. This is likely the only way to stop her from pulling the same stunt on other innocent hardworking people. I’m so sorry you got burned by this grifter, you work so hard and do such a nice job. ❤️🇨🇦

In Washingron state (PsacNW USA) there's a board and code of ethics, too. Fill you should consider reporting the agent. If nothing else, her colleagues in the business will know that she's scamming a small business owner. If she sells as a licensed agent for a bigger firm, they'll want to know this too. It reflects poorly on them and they don't want those agents associated with them.

Insist on being paid half upfront and half upon completion. No 15-day grace period unless that's a law required for services companies in your state.

As always a beautiful transformation! That agent will get what's coming to her in one way or another. Isn't there a way to take her to small claims court? Or as others mentioned... Put up a bad review for the agent, or even call the company the agent works for directly and explain what happened? I'm sure they wouldn't be too happy knowing one of their agents is scamming.

There is a lot of people who will scam anyone to get out of paying. It happen to my husband, mows or weed eat the empty lots or when some one needs their lawn done in our mobile home park. But it was bad because the manager of the park ask him to do it, but they kept the money for themselves. Never paid him what was owed to him or under pay him. From now on, money up front.

I remember this clean, and it seemed at the time as being a way to seal the deal on selling the home. Your work helped make her commission for selling possible, and it's pretty low of her to ghost you. Maybe posting a link to this video on yelp or something. Or reporting her to the Better Business Bureau could help you. We know you'll make money off this particular video, but that's not the point. Regardless of whether you didn't need' the money at that point, is irrelevant. What's relevant is you had an agreement (hopefully a signed contract), and it was her responsibility to pay that agreement. Taking her to small claims court would help reduce the chance she will do this to someone else, also.

I would be thanking you a dozen times for the great job you did. I'm so grateful for my yard guy, I make sure he has plenty of mineral water or soda in the summertime, I don't ask him to do my leaves if it's below freezing, and I gave him the month of Dec. off to be with his family and paid him for the month anyway. People are working hard to make a living and to scam somebody is beyond my comprehension.

I hope you "outted" that agent somewhere because I would NOT want to give her my business. If she was willing to screw you over she would certainly do it to me. I suspect there are many in your area who feel the same and would not want to give her their real estate business. SHAME ON HER! Your bid was beyond reasonable and your work helped her make the sale. A property that looks cared for sells faster. I would at least report her to her broker or the state agency. She's has probably done this many times before and gotten away with it. You can’t put a lean on a house against the Realtor, since the Realtor’s isn’t the one who owns the property. The lean would affect the current homeowner, not the realtor.

I was an a single mom and worked in administrative support roles for a couple different real estate companies around5 years before I completed my formal education. There are some truly good people who are agents. But a greater portion are not and do this type of work because they can’t hold a normal job. You should notify the broker of this agents ethics, as well as the local board she is licensed thru. No first time home buyer needs an unethical agent working for them. And as always love the job you did.

Sorry to hear about people using you. What we do, if it is a once-off job, you pay 50% before we start and you pay the left over 50% after the work was done. If you get scammed, you already have 50%. No deposit no work.

From one business owner to the next. I feel your pain so that is why I start asking for my money upfront before I do any work. Some people will be quick to give you approval to do the work, pay for parts, supplies, materials, etc. but as soon as you ask for money right after then they here comes the excuses. This enable me to weed out all of the clients that are not serious about doing good business and greatly reduce those type of issues and wasting too much time.
